everyone loves the 'wanna go for the title' scene for the flirting, but honestly, my favorite part of that scene is the fact buck says he should have been there for eddie and chris and questions how different things would be if he were. after that moment, buck never lets eddie go through something alone again. not if he can help it. he is there for the aftermath of the shooting. he won't leave eddie alone until eddie tells him about the panic attacks. he comes running during eddie's ptsd breakdown, and then he steps into the partner role with ease to make sure eddie has everything he needs to recover. as soon as he finds out about kim, he cancels on tommy to show up for eddie. when chris leaves, buck is right by eddie's side. even when eddie is leaving for texas and they are fighting, buck never leaves him alone. as soon as he gets over his own feelings and realizes how detrimental his actions were to eddie, he steps up to be what eddie needs. again and again, buck refuses to let what happened during the lawsuit ever happen again. if that means bringing his significant others into the fold or straight up ignoring them, he does that. because buck will choose eddie every time. over himself. over other people. he will be the voice of reason over the phone if that's what eddie needs. it's like buck was making a vow in 3x09 that eddie would never have to go through something alone again. and then... buck keeps it. and i just think that's really, really beautiful.
