Eric wondered, deep down, in that part of him that was honest when most of the other parts were just in some kind of blissful denial, if he was really ready for this.  That part of him said he really, really wasn’t, and all of that just made him want to escape back into the little bubble that was Ostroff.  But it wasn’t a forever solution, and he knew that.  He took a soft, shaky breath and forced a smile, letting the nervous energy out by carefully readjusting his his hair with his fingers.  "So,“ he asked brightly, "What have I missed?”

Jenny didn’t recognise the voice when he spoke to her-- well, maybe not to her, but he was near her. That counted, right? Her eyes lifted from her magazine and she opened her mouth to reply, but the words caught in her throat. This was Eric van der Woodsen. The Eric van der Woodsen. Jenny had only ever seen a few photos of him, but gosh he was so much more handsome in person. She tried to scold herself, she really did, but she could literally feel her heartbeat in her throat. Damien and her hadn’t exactly DTR’d, but she shouldn’t be looking at other boys like this, right? “I-...” Her lips fell into a smile as Jenny tried to look less stunned. “Where would I even begin?”

“Nah, you know what? I don’t think I am.” It was almost a surprise to realize that she was the only girl he wanted to spent time with right now, but it was almost….nice. In a weird way. Still, he had game to run, and he had to play it cool. “It wouldn’t be right to step out on you halfway through the ball, even if Mrs. Van Walsh has been eyeing me up since I walked in here.” Wink.

It wasn’t a proper response, not really. No, he’s not charging other girls for a dance because it would be rude to ditch his date mid-ball. He was pointing out that some woman was making eyes at him-- not that Jenny even knew who that woman was or even what age she was. Was he teasing her? Was he trying to move past the subject? Jenny didn’t have a hope in hell of thinking about that too hard though, because Damien was winking at her and she could feel her cheeks flush pink as she broke eye contact. Gosh, he was just so... dreamy. “No, it wouldn’t be. So you... want to have that dance now, or...?”
