Hello Stranger (AtsuMina)

In the middle of a peaceful night, a long black haired girl is arguing with his father inside their house.

“I told you dad, I don’t and I won’t inherit our company!”

“But Atsuko you’re the only person who can inherit it”

“Why me? Why don’t you find Haruna-neechan and get her back here so that she can inherit your company. She’s the eldest.”

“You know that your sister is not capable and worthy of inheriting it”

“And I am? Come on dad, I have my own goals and dreams”

“The company is important to our family”

“Our family? Or You? I don’t want to talk about this anymore dad”

Atsuko walked away.

“Maeda Atsuko, where are you going? Come back here!”

“I’m going to grab some fresh air dad”

She went to her convertible and drive away. She stopped at a bridge that has a view of a river and has a lot of trees surrounding it. She leaned to the bridge and enjoyed the night cold breeze. She didn’t notice that tears started to fell down from her eyes.

*Wha…am I crying?*

She touches her face and felt that it is indeed wet. She heaves a sigh

*Why can’t dad understand me?*

“It’s a pity to see a beautiful lady like you crying” A voice emerges beside her. She looks at the source of the voice and saw a short girl. The latter looked back at her and smiled.

“Sorry if I scared you”

“No, you didn’t” Atsuko looked back to the scenery. Silence engulfed the two of them.

“May I know why are you crying?” The girl broke the silence.

“Huh?” Atsuko looked confusingly looked at the stranger

“I’m asking why a beautiful girl like you is crying. It’s alright if you don’t want to share it”

*Maybe it won’t hurt to talk about my problem with this stranger. She doesn’t look harmful or have bad intentions.*

“It’s about my father”

“What about your father?”

“He wants me to inherit our company but I don’t want to”

“Why don’t you want to?”

“I want to pursue my dreams.”

“What is your dream?” Atsuko looked at the girl with a blank expression written all over her face.

“Sorry if I keep on throwing you questions. I’m just curious” The girl apologize and didn’t talk again. Silence engulfed them again.

*This silence is making me guilty. She’s just curious Atsuko. You shouldn’t have treated her like that.*

She decided to answer again the girl’s question but before that she heaved a sigh.

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to treat you harshly”

“No, it’s my fault. I’m being way too curious”

“It’s alright. I’ll answer your questions” The girl looked at her waiting for the previous question’s answer.

“I want to be an actress. Ever since I was little I’ve dream of becoming an actress, a famous actress that everyone look up to”

“That’s a beautiful dream but does your father know it?”

“No, he didn’t and I know he wouldn’t care about it even a little because all he thinks of is making me inherit his company. I’ll say it again HIS Company”

“Hahaha…you’re a stubborn kid”

“I won’t deny it. I am a stubborn kid. Wait, I keep on telling about myself. What about you? Don’t have anything to share or something to talk with?”

“I don’t have. My life isn’t that interesting”

“Oh c’mon, your life can’t be that dull”

“But it is”

“Alright, I’ll just ask you questions and you better answer it all”

“Okay. Ask me anything”

“How old are you?”

“24 years old”

“Are you still studying?”

“Nope, I already graduated last two years under business management. Currently, I’m helping my father in our company”

“You’re helping in your father’s company? Are you forced or you chose at your own will?”

“At my own will. I promised him that I will help him in place of my brother that passed away.”

“Oh, I’m sorry”

“No, it’s alright. It’s already been years since he passed away”

“Don’t you have any dreams that you want to pursue?”

“I do have one”

“What is it?”

“I wanted to be a singer-songwriter”

“Wow, so you sing and write songs?”

“Yep, back then when I don’t have anything to do I write songs and sing it in front of my family and friends”

“That awesome but you can’t pursue that dream already”

“I know. I already accepted that fact because I love my family especially my father. The truth is my father decline my offer of helping him and inheriting the company because he knows how I wanted to sing but I keep on being stubborn saying that I can give up all my dreams just for him”

“I wish I have a father like yours. Alright, I’ll ask you another question. Are you currently in a relationship?”

“Relationship? You mean lover?”

“Yeah”

“Nope, don’t have”

“No relationship since birth?”

“I do have but only one”

“Your first love?”

“Not really, there’s love but not that much to be called first love”

“Ah…oh yeah we’ve already been talking for so long and we still haven’t know each other’s name. I’ll introduce first, my name is Maeda Atsuko” Atsuko said while showing her beautiful smile and offering her hand for a hand shake.

“Maeda Atsuko. That’s a beautiful name. It suits you” The girl gave Atsuko a compliment while shaking her hands.

“Thank you. You can call me Acchan. It’s the nickname given to me by my friends.”

“Acchan? That’s cute”

“What about you? What’s your name?”

“My name is—” The girl was interrupted by a ringing sound.

“It’s mine” She pull out her phone and answered the call

“Hello dad? Yes dad….Right Now?…Alright…Yes dad…Alright…Bye dad, I love you too”

The call ended and she looked at Atsuko.

“I’m sorry Acchan but I should be going now. My father wants to see me right away. It’s nice meeting you” The girl started to run away.

“Hey wait you still haven’t said-” Atsuko tried to stop her but she’s already out of sight.

“Your name. Sheesh, just when I thought I already found someone who could understand me.”

Atsuko looked at her watch and saw that it was already almost midnight.

“Maybe I should go home already”

She went to her car and drove to her house. When she arrived, the house is quite. She saw her little sister reading a book at the couch.

“Why are you still awake Miyuki?” (Note: I used the real name of her younger sister)

The girl stops reading and looks at her sister.

“Onee-chan, your back”

“Yes, I’m back. Now answer me, why are you still awake?”

“I was waiting for you”

“You shouldn’t have done that”

“But I was worried about you onee-chan” Miyuki hung her head low. Atsuko heaved a sigh and embraced her sister.

“I understand that but you shouldn’t do it again alright?” Miyuki nodded.

“And I’m sorry for making you worry. Now go upstairs and go to sleep”

Atsuko sat on the couch while Miyuki walked towards her room. She started to think about today’s event especially the girl that she just met.

*I wonder what her name is. I was about to know her name till her phone rung. I wish I will meet her again. She made me feel at ease and comfortable.*

She raised her hand and stare at it.

*Her hand felt soft and smooth. I want to hold that hand again. Wait, what am I thinking? Sheesh, maybe I’m just tired. Yes, I’m just tired. I better sleep now.*

She stands up and went to her room.

(The Next Day – Night Time)

Atsuko just arrived from school and she’s really tired from all the activities they did. She just wanted to get a proper rest but her father started ranting again about her inheriting the company.

“Dad, will you stop already?”

“No, I won’t young lady. Not until you accept to become my heiress”

“Can’t you understand Dad? I don’t want to become your heiress and run YOUR Company! I have my dreams that I want to pursue because nobody else can decide what I wanted to become and do in the future. This is my life dad. My OWN life! You can just hire someone who can bring back onee-san here and let her inherit your company.”

She stormed away from their house again. She rode her car and went to the same bridge she went to yesterday night. She’s crying again.

“Is it your dad again?” A familiar voice asked her. She looked at her side and saw the girl from yesterday. She didn’t answered but she just keeps on crying.

“I guess I’m right. Don’t hold back. Just keep crying” She started to caress Atsuko’s back to sooth the latter. It didn’t take a while for Atsuko to stop crying.

“You know you can go to this bridge everytime you have a problem. I’ll be here to comfort you. I’m always here every night.”

“Thank you” The girl smiled at her.

“Your welcome. I’ll be going now. I still have something important to do. I just stopped by because I’m hoping that I’ll see you again. So Bye” She left Atsuko.

*I forgot to ask her name. But she said that she’ll always be here every night. I still have a chance to ask her name.*

That night, Atsuko went home past midnight and it earned her a scolding from her father. She just ignored he’s saying and went to her room to went to dreamland.

Ever since that night, Atsuko started going every night to the bridge. She always talk and share stories to the girl but due to the pure bliss and happiness she always felt when the girl is around, she always forget to ask the girl’s name but that didn’t stop her from falling in love with the latter. She fell in love with the stranger who is always there for her. Everything is perfect for them but one night, it all changed.

Atsuko went home early. She found her father busy reading a newspaper at the couch.

“Atsuko, your getting married to the daughter of the Takahashi Family” Atsuko stopped at her tracks and stared at her father confusingly.

“What did you just say?”

“I said you’re going to marry the daughter of my friend, the Takahashi Family”

“Wha- when did I agree on marrying someone?”

“It was already plan even before you are born”

“How could you!” Her father looked at her with fuming eyes.

“Everything is already prepared and arranged. All you need to do is to meet with your fiance”

“I will never ever marry someone whom I don’t love!”

She runs away again and went to the bridge. The only difference this time is when she arrived at the bridge, the girl isn’t there.

*Where is she? She’s usually already here at this time.She searched for her everywhere.*

“Are you looking for me?” Atsuko turned around and saw the person she’s searching.

“I’m sorry, I’m late”

“No, it’s alright”

“The truth is I planned on not coming tonight. No, not just only tonight but I won’t be going here anymore”

“Wha-why?”

“I want to stop meeting you”

“Why would you want to stop meeting with me?”

“Because I don’t want to fall deeper for you” Atsuko was surprised with the latter’s somehow confession.

“You don’t want to fall deeper for me? Why? I also love you”

“I can’t…We can’t”

“Why?”

“It’s alright if you don’t know why”

“No! Tell me why!”

“I’m already arrange marriage to somebody”

“Wha- Can’t you just back out from that marriage?”

“I can’t it’s for my father”

“If it’s for your father then I completely lose” Atsuko started crying.

“I’m sorry Acchan. I didn’t know that you also have feelings for me. If I only knew, I would have decline it but it’s already too late. I’m sorry Acchan”

“No, don’t say sorry anymore. Just go away. Leave already”

“Acchan I-“

“I said leave already!” She yelled at her. The girl backed away and ran.

*You’re the only person I have on my side to comfort and understand me but you threw me away. You just threw me away on the time that I really needed you the most.*

That night she cried to her heart’s content. She went to a bar and drowns herself in alcohol. Even though she’s quite drunk she still managed to drive and went home.

“Where did you go young lady?” Her father who is waiting for her to come home question her.

“Oh Dad, why are you still awake? I just had fun” She groggily answered. Her father walks nearer to her.

“I can smell alcohol coming from you. Did you go to a bar?”

“Bingo. Hahaha…I’m tired dad. I’ll go to my room now. Goodnight” She started walking to her room but her father stopped her.

“What is happening to you Maeda Atsuko?”

“Nothing dad”

“Nothing? You wouldn’t get yourself drunk if nothing is happening”

“What do want to know dad?”

“I want to know the reason why you let yourself get drunk. I’m your father.”

“Since when did you act like my father? Since when did you show concern for me? NEVER!” Atsuko ran to her room. When she is about to fall asleep, she heard knocks.

“Who is it?”

“It’s me”

“What do you want dad?”

“I just want to tell you that the Takahashi family will be coming here tomorrow with your fiance. Be nice to them. Goodnight.”

*I will meet my fiance tomorrow huh? Maybe I can use that person to forget her. Yeah, maybe*

(The next day)

That day, Atsuko dress beautifully. She made sure that everything will be perfect. She joined her father in the living room.

“Sir, the guests have arrived” A maid told Mr. Maeda.

“You can go back in the kitchen. I’ll take care of them” The maid bowed to him. He went to the door and welcomed his guests.

“Mr and Mrs. Takahashi, thank you for coming”

“It was nothing. Oh yeah, sorry my daughter will be a little late because she still have things to finish” Mr. Takahashi said.

“It’s alright Mr. Takahashi. We have plenty of time. Please have a sit.” He led them in the living room where Atsuko is.

“Oh, is this your daughter? She’s really beautiful” Mrs. Takahashi said. Atsuko stood up and greeted them.

“Hello, my name is Atsuko”

“Oh, she also has a beautiful name” Mr. Takahashi said

“Thank you” Atsuko appreciated the compliments given to her.

Mr. Maeda is having conversation with the Takahashi family, while Atsuko is being silent all throughout their conversation. She only speaks when she is being asked. After several minutes, the doorbell rung.

“Maybe it is my daughter” Mr. Takahashi stood up and went to the door.

“I’m sorry dad. I’m late” Atsuko heard her fiance’s voice.

*Her voice is familiar*

“It’s alright. Come on let’s go to the living room”

Mr. Takahashi went to the living room with her daughter. The moment they entered the living, Atsuko stood up with a surprised face. The girl bowed to them.

“Hello, my name is Takahashi Minami” She looked at Atsuko with the same surprise face

“You-” They both said while pointing at each other.

“You two know each other?” Mrs. Takahashi asked.

“Well, if two knew each other already then there won’t be any problem in their upcoming engagement” Mr. Maeda said.

Minami sat awkwardly beside Atsuko. They didn’t talk nor face each other.

“I think we should leave this two alone, don’t you think so Mr. Takahashi?”

“Yes, we should” Their parents stood up and left them. There is an awful awkward atmosphere around them till Minami decided to break it.

“Did you already forgive me?”

“Yes. The truth is I’m planning to use my fiance to forget about you but it turns out that you’re also my fiance so I don’t have a choice”

“I guess you already fell out of love for me”

“What about you?”

“I never did”

“Then were the same”

“Huh?”

“I also never did. Even this time I still love you”

“Really?” Atsuko nodded. Minami embraced the latter tightly.

“Takamina can’t breathe”

“Sorry…wait Takamina?”

“From now own I’ll call you by that nickname”

“Takamina….Sounds good to me. I like it.

“I know you’ll like it” Atsuko smiled proudly.

“You’re so~ cute, you know that?”

“I know that.Takamina, can you promise me something?”

“What is it?”

“Promise that you won’t ever leave me”

“I promise you that I will never leave you and that I will always be by your side” after that Minami kissed her in the forhead.

“We’re going to live happily together”
