WITH A SMILE
➠ pairing: non-idol! ex-bf!na jaemin x reader
➠ genre: angst
➠ warnings: major character death (u guessed it) | hallucinations | signs of mild depression| mentions of an accident
➠ wc: 1.089
when you are forced to let go of your true love, will you remember him by with a smile?
( it’s midnight and i’m moody and wrote this and now feel free to read and be sad with me 💋 also i wonder why jaemin has been renting out a huge room in my mind lately .. )
Tumblr media
THERE WAS SOMETHING ABOUT THE GRAPHIC DRAWINGS IN A THIN PIECE OF PAPER. Something that even a thousand words couldn’t explain.
A frozen memory, where eyes were never closed, where hearts were never broken. Time stood still. A moment where you could keep forever.
So your boyfriend’s obsession over his camera made you feel a thing or two. You hated yet adored it at the same time. It wasn’t really pleasant living your life normally, not knowing someone was actually taking your picture without permission. And yet still, Jaemin’s quirky smile and his reminder of why he took the photos in the first place made your heart swell in a good way. In the best ways.
“When we’re old and wrinkled,” he’d say, “I want to show these memories to our grandchildren. Brag to them I married the most beautiful woman in the whole universe.”
It was hard to believe him — well to be exact, it was hard to believe someone like him would exist. Harder to believe you did something in your past life to deserve him.
There was something odd about him now though.
It used to be you not enjoying the flashes of a camera, but now Jaemin seems to have a hard time smiling in every picture you take.
“Jaemin! last one. Please.” You begged, dragging him upwards the small hill. It was autumn, your favorite season and it was a tradition for the two of you to see the amazing view of the place.
“Love.”
“Come on! We have to catch the sunset —“
“Love..”
“— it’ll be so romantic. Our grandchildren will really be jealous after seeing this picture.”
“Y/n.” Jaemin sighs, not moving one bit in his place. He gently pulled away from your hold on his wrist, choosing to hide his hands inside his coat’s pockets.
“Jaemin,” you say his name like it was a sacred thing, voice quivering both from the cold and the thick feelings bubbling up your throat. You don’t understand. “What’s going on, Jaem? You seem so … far away.”
Distant. He seems so distant. It doesn’t matter if he’s right here, a foot away from you. He feels like he’s miles away, somewhere you can’t reach.
Jaemin smiled, but it wasn’t his old one, it was forced out. It didn’t reach his beautiful eyes. “I can’t,” he whispered, softly shaking his head, “you have to go without me.”
“Why?” You gulp, eyes starting to become teary.
“You have to take the picture on your own.”
“Jaemin..”
“You have to share your memories with the grandchildren you and your husband will have —“
“I don’t want to!” You burst out, reaching out to him one last time. You gripped on his coat tightly, sobbing like a madwoman. “I don’t want to go alone. I don’t want the photo without you. I don’t want grandchildren if it’s not you.”
“I know darling,” a tear slowly rolled down his cheek. Jaemin took a deep breath, allowing you to press on him for as long as you need. Just for now. He rested his chin on the top of your head, closing his eyes. “But you have to try.”
You whimpered, opening your mouth to call out his name, but it was hard now. It was like a thousand thorns were poking your heart whenever you tried to speak. Instead, you relished in the feeling, trying to memorize the warmth of his body.
“Y/n?”
All you could do was hum.
“Promise me you’ll smile.”
How? How will you smile when it’s so difficult? You wanted to complain, to oppose him, to be stubborn.
“Please, Y/n,” Jaemin pleaded, knowing there was not enough time. “Don’t cry when you hear my name. Remember me and smile.”
And yet, how will you not follow his request? His only wish.
“I promise.” You huskily let out, holding him tighter. Finally, Jaemin let out the most genuine smile and knew he could finally rest in peace. You know it. You felt him drifting farther away, until you could feel nothing in your fingertips.
You kept your eyes closed, lips pressed together tightly to conceal in the cries that were threatening to be let out. And then you felt a hand on your shoulder, making you instantly shift your weight to their side, too weak to be alone.
“Are you ready?” Jaemin’s mother asked in a soft voice, letting you sob so weakly by her neck. It took a few seconds of silence before you nodded, slowly lifting your head to meet her eyes.
“I hope you forgive my son, dear,” she wiped your tears, smiling sadly, “Jaemin has come home.”
“I know.” You nod again, not having the heart to hate him for leaving you. It wasn’t his fault. He didn’t do anything wrong.
Her smile had gotten a bit larger but still not so happy. Together, arm in arm, you both climb up the hill. She would share you stories of Jaemin’s childhood, and you would share with her about the plans you and Jaemin wanted to fulfill in the future.
The only thing that stopped the conversation was when you caught the breathtaking view of the small town that you grew to love.
“I’m so glad you and Nana found this place, Y/n.” She sighed in awe, squeezing your hand. “He was right. This is the best place to ask someone to spend the rest of your lives with.”
Your eyes soften, hand unconsciously travelling to the pendant of your necklace. It was an engagement ring. The ring that was found on Jaemin’s closed fist the day of the accident. Painful memories pinched your heart once again, but you stopped them.
“I would have said yes.” You doubted anyone heard you, given how low you said it. But the winds heard, the heavens heard, and somewhere, up in the clouds, a star brightened up even more.
“Oh! We’re losing the sunset. On you go dear, I’ll get the camera. Go pose beside that tree over there.” Mrs. Na gushed while you passed her the camera. You did as she told and stood beside the lonely tree, combing your fingers through your hair to make yourself at least look a bit presentable.
“One..two..three..”
And you smiled with the click and the flash.
Because you promised.
Because you loved him.
Because you will never forget him.
Because when you go home and clip this photograph inside the book alongside with the thousands of pictures Jaemin took, you’ll remember to share to your grandchildren the story of your first love. With a smile.

OPEN BOOK
➠ pairing: non-idol! ex-bf!mark lee x reader
➠ genre: angsty
➠ warnings: um they broke up in a bad way ig | marks a red flag here even tho we all know he’s the bestboy ever | cheating :0 | the word ‘asshole’ here is used once in the ending
➠ wc: 1.041 (i think i got a little carried away)
when you pick up your things in his apartment and mark tells you he still loves you.
READ PART TWO HERE!
Tumblr media
“I’M NOT HERE FOR ANY FUNNY BUSINESS.”
Your ex of three years, Mark Lee, leaned back on the side of the door with a small smirk on his face. “I know,” he inhales slowly, licking his lips, “it’s great to see you again, Y/n.”
“I wish I could tell you the same.” You grumbled. “Let’s just get this over with.”
It was easy to tell, the pink bra hanging by the dining chair was the biggest giveaway.
Mark must’ve noticed where you were glaring at and he hurried to grab the underwear, shoving it in his joggers pocket. “Forgot to throw it away, sorry.”
Mark must’ve noticed where you were glaring at and he hurried to grab the underwear, shoving it in his joggers pocket. “Forgot to throw it away, sorry.”
You hate how casual he sounded.
“Whatever. Where’s my stuff?” You decided to go right through business. It was useless making a conversation with him anyways. Plus, you couldn’t really stand being in the apartment where you were constantly reminded of painful memories.
Here was when Mark asked you out, when you had gotten your first kiss, and when you also caught him tongue tangled with another woman. Yes, he cheated.
“I packed them for you, you know, as an apology. But I left some since I didn’t know which you still wanted.” He shrugged, walking to his room (the room you both used to share) and grabbed a huge box.
“I told you I don’t need your sorry—“
“—but I want to say sorry.”
You paused, blood boiling. It took a few seconds of you opening and closing your mouth, not knowing what were the right words to say. “Even…even if you want to say sorry, and even if you say it a million times, I can’t forgive you.”
Mark’s eyes softened. He looked like he was also having difficulty deciding what to say, so he gave up and placed the box on top of the table. “The rest of your things are still in the room. Feel free to look around and take anything you want.”
Without responding back, you walked past him inside the room. Nothing really changed much, everything was the same as you remembered. Except, the polaroids that were once stuck to the wall were gone. It was weird seeing the plain wall.
“I didn’t throw them away,” you hear Mark speak from behind you, “they’re in the box.”
“You don’t wanna get reminded, huh?” You scoffed loudly, but there was a painful pinch in your heart. Those polaroids hold memories and him admitting to not keeping them did hurt a little more than needed. What else did you expect from a cheater anyways?
“No, quite the opposite actually.”
In surprise, you turned around to face him and then regretted it the next second. Mark smiled, genuinely but small, still though, his eyes reflected thousands of emotions and you had a hard time reading them—reading him. He was holding a familiar sweater.
“It hurts, Y/n. I remember everything everywhere I look, even if I close my eyes. But even if it’s painful, I want to remember.” He confessed. Everything about him was so genuine. Mark stared at you in an almost pleading way, he looked down on his hand and sighed. “It’s your favorite sweater, take it.”
It is, in fact, your favorite. You used to wear it everyday, every night, and was always fussy when it had to be in the laundry. But you hesitated, because it was his sweater. You don’t know if you could handle wearing it again.
“I can’t,” you stammered. Tears were slowly filling your eyes and your lips quivered. Suddenly, you felt everything crashing down. It felt like a truck hit you. Your boyfriend of three years, the one who you thought you’ll spend forever with, cheated on you and stepped on your heart until it broke into millions of pieces.
Enough was enough. You needed to get out. Mark stared at you in silence and it pisses you off.
So, you pushed him roughly to the side and walked out of the room, hugging the huge box close to your chest. It was heavy and difficult to carry, but you didn’t want to ask for his help. In fact, you never want to have him involved in your life ever again.
“Y/n, I—“
“God, Mark, why do you have to make everything difficult?” You cut him off, spatting every word with venom. You faced him, eyes puffy and cheeks full of tears. “You’re the one who bought another girl home, you’re the one who messed everything up. You broke both my heart and my trust. Which part of ‘I don’t want anything with you anymore’ don’t you understand?”
“I’m sorry..”
“Stop saying that!”
“I can’t!” Mark finally lost it. The mask he placed on now fell off, and you could finally see how messed up he was too, if not more messed up. His sudden outburst shuts you up. This time, it was you who was staring at him in silence.
He breathed harshly, Adam's apple going up and down before he continued speaking in a hoarse but more gentle voice. “I just can’t stop saying sorry, okay? I know I screwed up, I know I made the biggest mistake of my life. The guilt is eating me alive, Y/n. I thought I was over you, I thought I didn’t care anymore, but I’m wrong. Because I still love you. I love you so, so much and I never stopped.”
It was clear now.
Finally, you could read him like an open book. Yes, Mark made a mistake, but you did one too. Believing him was the biggest mistake you’ve ever made.
“Yeah. You’re wrong.” You sniffled, balancing the box in your left arm while opening the front door. “You never loved me, you’re just using that as an excuse to feed that guilt in you. You’re an asshole, Mark Lee. I hope you rot in hell.”
And with that, you walked your way out of his apartment and his life.

when na jaemin said the wrong name at his own wedding.
READ PART ONE HERE!
Tumblr media
EVERYONE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPY IN A WEDDING.
“I am happy for him.”
“Liar.”
“But I really am.”
“Nice try.”
You glared at Jeno, crossing your arms. “You can’t tell me what to feel. I’m happy. End of story.”
“Yeah, and I’m the long lost prince of Narnia.” Jeno rolled his eyes, fiddling with his tie. “Y/n, you can’t lie to me—no, in fact, you can’t lie at all. You’re the worst liar I know, other than Mark hyung.”
“Gee, thanks.”
“Hey, it’s not wrong to not be happy.” His tone suddenly softened, kneeling down in front of you. Jeno’s eyes were full of pity and you hated it. You hated it because you know he’s right: you are not happy.
“It is wrong, though.” You stubbornly point out. “Jaemin’s a married man in less than 24 hours. I’m his best friend and I should be happy for him.”
“But you’re in love with him.”
You are. Deeply. Utterly. So much.
“I am,” you gulp, looking away from his dark orbs. It hurts to admit it but what else will you hide from him? Jeno already knew your secret anyway ever since you rejected him back at high school.
Jeno squeezed your hand, sighing. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. You’re not Jaemin.”
He smiled, even chuckling a bit. You let out a small laugh too before shaking your head, squeezing his hand back. “Yeah, I’m not happy. But I want to be. Jeno, Jaemin has done so much for me, and being in his wedding means a lot. He does make me happy in general. Maybe we were really destined to be just friends.”
“Friends don’t look at each other that way, though.” Jeno softly said, tucking the hair covering your face behind your ear. Once he was satisfied fixing your hair, he stood back up and attended once again to his still not fixed tie.
“Drop it Jeno, I’m serious.” You bit your lip, checking the time. “Jaemin’s getting married, you have to accept that. I have to accept that.”
Tumblr media
“I’m getting married.”
“You’re getting married.”
“I can’t believe I’m getting married!”
“You can’t believe you're not getting married to Y/n?”
“Y—what? No!” Jaemin turned his head at Chenle so fast that he felt blood rushing, giving him a slight headache that added to his stress. “I love Bea!”
“I never said you didn’t.” Chenle snickered, opening up the bottle of champagne. Jaemin huffed, ruffling his already messy hair. “Well, I do, okay? I love Bea. That’s why I proposed. That’s why I’m going to be standing at the altar.”
“You were just about to say yes though.”
“Then you’re hearing things. I’ll pay for your doctor after the marriage.”
Chenle scoffed this time, taking a sip of his glass of champagne before passing the whole bottle to the groom. “I have nothing against you or Bea, if you love her, then fine. But if you love her just because of Jeno and Y/n—“
“Yeah, sure. I’m in love with my fiancé because my two best friends obviously have something going on.” Jaemin sarcastically says, giving the bottle a look before taking a huge gulp. He needed it.
“You know Y/n rejected him, right?”
“I know, Le. I was literally the one who comforted Jeno five years ago.”
Chenle felt his chest tighten, staring at his friend for a long time before releasing a deep sigh. “You have to stop caring for others too much. Worry about yourself too, you idiot.”
“I didn’t push myself away because I know Jeno likes Y/n,” Jaemin slurred, cheeks tinted red from the alcohol he just chugged. He pinched the bridge of his nose, resting his elbow on his thigh. “I love Bea. I’m continuing the wedding.”
Tumblr media
How many times has Na Jaemin done something stupid?
Good question. Even he couldn’t count.
On his wedding day, he was feeling a mixture of emotions. He really couldn’t pinpoint which is which, and that’s probably thanks to the alcohol he had consumed before the bride’s father came over to give him a goodluck.
Jaemin knows he’s supposed to be happy, like any damn man should be on their wedding day.
But he feels the worst.
Was he really having second thoughts? Oh, Jaemin felt like a jerk. How could he face his fiancé properly when there’s another woman in his mind? He felt horrible. Why were you even on his mind?
Okay, maybe he did lie.
Five years ago, when he ran through the storm to reach you and confess his undying love, when he missed the chance all because of a phone call, Jaemin had thought shoving all his feelings inside and moving on was the best he could do.
After all, he loved you, and Jeno was his friend. How could he ever do that to a friend?
“You good?” Chenle’s voice cut his thoughts off.
“Yeah.” Jaemin replied in a whisper, eyes scanning the room nervously.
“You better be. The wedding’s—let me rephrase that—your wedding’s about to start.”
Jaemin gave a tight smile, trying his best to ignore the demon by his shoulder, tempting him to leave the altar and look for you.
“Groom, ready?”
This is it.
He’s going to be a fucking-married-man.
“Yeah.”
The wedding planner nodded her head then rushed outside the church door to probably ready the flower girls, bell boys, bridesmaids, and escorts.
“There.” Chenle smiled, nodding in a direction. Jaemin followed his gaze and his stomach dropped in regret the next second.
There you are, sitting prettily in a light pink off-shoulder dress, with your hair perfectly loose and slightly curled. You weren’t wearing much make-up, he could tell, yet you still managed to outshine everyone in the room.
Jaemin’s heart skipped a beat.
You smiled widely and gave him two thumbs-up, mouthing “you got this”. And almost instantly, Jaemin felt his nerves calm down. He smiled back just as wide, nodding.
You always knew how to calm him down after all.
Music started playing, and one by one, the bridesmaids and escorts started walking down the aisle. Flower girls soon followed and then, the bride.
“Here comes the bride.”
Everyone stood up, eager and excitedly. You, however, tried your best to show you were just as enthusiastic as the others. You had a brief eye contact with Jeno on the other side of the room and he scrunched his nose up, as if to tell you everything’s going to be alright.
But it isn’t, really.
You don’t think you can handle it, even if you try. You can’t watch the man you love share his vows with another woman.
As Bea walks in slowly, her eyes staring lovingly at her groom, Jaemin starts to feel his heart palpitate again. Not because of the wedding, not because of the bride walking to him, but because he was afraid.
He was fully afraid of why he didn’t feel a thing. Don’t get him wrong, Bea looked beautiful in a white dress, but you would look more stunning. Jaemin’s scared his worst fear might be happening: he hasn’t moved on and he’s still in love with you.
“Um, Jaem?”
Jaemin stopped daydreaming and cluelessly stared back at Bea. She chuckled nervously, nudging her hand out again until he finally got the hint and shakingly took it, guiding her in front.
It felt so wrong to him, and feeling that is wrong. Especially in this situation.
“Before we start, regrets must end here right now. Is there anyone who objects to wed Na Jaemin and Ki Bea?”
You wanted to raise your hand. He wanted you to raise your hand.
“Alright then, we shall proceed.”
You wanted to leave. He wanted to leave with you.
When the vows were exchanged, Bea had gotten emotional, declaring her love while Jaemin felt like the biggest jerk alive. He almost froze when the mic was passed to him, but managed to stutter out words, telling the story of how they met and how he proposed.
Jaemin couldn’t really hear a thing. In fact, he couldn’t even stare directly in her eyes. He just felt too guilty. Maybe some of the audience noticed his odd behavior, because he was sure Chenle had caught on. The little devil always did, anyways.
“Will you, Ki Bea, take Na Jaemin as your lawfully wedded husband? Be with him through thick and thin, through sickness and in health?”
“I, Ki Bea, take thee Na Jaemin as my lawfully wedded husband. Be with him through thick and thin, through sickness and in health.”
“Will you, Na Jaemin, take Ki Bea as your lawfully wedded wife. Be with her through thick and thin, through sickness and in health?”
Jaemin took a deep breath.
He could do this. He can do this. He will do this.
“I, Na Jaemin, take thee L/N Y/N—“
Gasps erupted from the room.
You snap your head up, eyes widened. Did you hear it right? Did he just say your name?
Jaemin grew red from embarrassment, even taken back himself. What did he just fucking do?
“U-Um..”
“It’s okay, Jaem. I understand it’s a mistake. Just—just repeat it.” Bea stammered, her hold on his hand loosening. Jaemin slowly nodded, swallowing the huge lump on his throat. He awkwardly shifted his weight on his left feet, taking another deep breath.
“I, Na Jaemin, take three L/N Y/N—..”
Half of the people were already standing up on their seats. Everyone was whispering to themselves. By now, you were sure that you heard your name.
You received stares from left to right, but what mattered to you right now was the stare Jaemin gave you.
“I—you—but—ugh!” Bea tantrumed, throwing her bouquet of flowers on the ground. She pushed Jaemin’s chest roughly, nose and eyes red from tears. “I knew you were still in love with that bitch! I never liked her!”
“B-Bea, wait, I can explain.” Jaemin realized he wasn’t just the king of all jerks right now, but he was also the stupidest man standing on earth.
“Explain what? You can’t explain! Listen, Jaemin, you have to pick. Me or her?” Bea demanded, stomping her foot. Jaemin winced visibly, struggling to choose. He felt so, so, guilty that even his eyes started to sting.
“I..”
A hand on his shoulder stopped him from speaking. It was Jeno.
“What’s happening here?”
“What’s happening here!? Your friend cheated on me! That’s what’s happening. That bitch never stayed on her line. You’re mine, Na Jaemin. Mine!”
“Funny.” Jeno narrowed his eyes, crossing his arms against his chest. He smugly let out a smirk. Sensing trouble, both families—from Jaemin’s and Bea’s side—were also now in front.
“I demand an explanation, Na. I trusted you with my daughter.” Bea’s father sternly said while her mother comforted her. Jaemin opened his mouth to speak, but no words left his mouth. What else would he explain? That he was still in love with you?
“I can give you an explanation, sir.”
“You’re not the one I’m asking, boy—“
“But isn’t your daughter only using my best friend here, for your business?” Jeno glared at the older man. Jaemin looked at him confused.
“Don’t you dare try to accuse me and my family like that.”
“The Na’s are successful business owners. And your own is almost close to bankruptcy. I have proof of you trying to steal money, Mr. Ki. Don’t make the mistake of humiliating yourself in front of everyone right now.”
“What is he saying?” The mother asked, with her brows furrowed and eyes teary. “Nothing! The boy’s crazy!” The father suddenly showed fear, urging his family to leave. “Let’s go. We have no other business here.”
“But daddy!”
“Bea. Let’s go.”
Jaemin was left stunned when his ex-fiancé was dragged by her father outside the church. He coughed a little, turning to Jeno. “What the fuck was that?”
“I think the words you were looking for were ‘thank you for saving my ass, where’s y/n?’.”
“Jeno.”
“I had my suspicions, okay? Meeting Bea that day on the club was not a coincidence. And she’s really bad at acting. I had to do a quick background check to see if she’s worth it for you.”
“Jeno..”
“You’re my best friend, Jaem. All I wanted for you was to be happy. I’ll handle the guests and your family.”
Jaemin couldn’t help but shed a tear when he pulled Jeno in a tight hug, thanking him all over again and again. God, what did he do to deserve this?
“Stop thanking me, fatass. Run after her. Chenle knew Y/n needed to get out of here when everyone was whispering about her, so he led her outside to the garden.”
“Thank you!”
“Shut up!”
Jaemin laughed, wiping his tears with his thumb before running out the door, loosening his tie that was choking him for the past hour.
He’s been in love with you for so long, that even Chenle couldn’t even remember how he fell for you. No one that knew remembered, really. Only Jaemin remembered every detail very clearly.
It was by summer, when you stood up for him from a couple of bullies. You always shared your lunchbox with him, you even helped him repair his broken toy care, for goodness’s sake. And yes, it had been more than a decade, and yes, he was down bad.
So bad.
It was always you.
His love never faded, in fact, it grew stronger as he woke up and lived everyday, longing for you.
Jaemin caught a glimpse of your light pink dress by the garden’s balcony. He panted, swallowing. Five years ago, he was in the same situation, when he was too afraid to admit what he really wanted to say.
But thanks to the adrenaline from the wedding and the run he just had, his confidence was boosted.
“That was one hell of a wedding.” You broke the silence, still not facing him. Your eyes were still stuck on the flowers, but you did hear footsteps and some heavy breathing.
“Bad.” Jaemin cringed, walking closer to you and leaning beside you, staring at the flowers too.
“Oh, the worse.”
He smiled. “I’m so happy it turned out that way.”
Your throat feels dry when you turn to face him. “Why?” You croaked out after exhaling, knuckles white from how tight you were gripping the railings of the balcony.
“Saying your name up there felt right.” He was still smiling.
“Why did it feel right?”
“Because.”
“Because what?”
“Because I always dreamt of you walking down the aisle in a white dress.” And smiling.
You hit his shoulder, groaning at his answer. It wasn’t the one you wanted to hear, and he knew that.
“Na Jaemin!”
Jaemin chuckled, swatting your hand away. He scrunched his nose up, which made him identical to a bunny. “You know it’s rude hitting people.”
“Since when?” You ignored him.
“The day we met.”
“That long?” You groaned again, now covering your red face. It was the effect of Na Jaemin on you that you used to hate and grew to love.
“Yeah, that long.” He nodded, confirming.
“Why didn’t you tell me any sooner? Or did you plan waiting this long, until you’re in your own fucking wedding to tell me?”
“Touchè.” Jaemin clicked on his tongue. “I don’t know. I was a kid, I was dumb. I did try sometimes but everything failed.”
“So five years ago, when you ran through the rain and knocked on my door on a school night, did you..?”
“Yeah.”
“..did you want to tell me you were engaged?”
“Alright, that’s it.” Jaemin gives you a glare when you laugh at your own jokes. “I can’t help it! I find an opportunity and I use it. Starting from now, I’m using this day against you.”
“I’ll do the talking now.” He sighed, shaking his head when you laughed louder.
“No!”
“Y/n.”
“Imagine saying the wrong name at a wedding, that’s so fucking embarrassing I—“
“—I’m in love with you.” Jaemin cuts you off.
You stop, licking your lips and looking away. It was quiet for a few seconds.
“I know.”
“You did!?—“
“No, it’s not that,” you calmed him down, letting out a weak smile. “I didn’t know. But I did have a clue when you said my name while dedicating your wedding vows.”
“Ah.”
“Mhm.”
Jaemin cleared his throat, his shoulders slumping. The adrenaline was fully gone by now and you still weren’t responding back to his confession. His chest tightened and his eyes stung. “I..I should go.“
“I’m in love with you too.”
“Oh.”
“Jaemin,” you wince and place your hands on his chest when he leaned in. “We should probably take it slow, right? I mean, you just got out of a relationship not even an hour ago.”
“Right. That makes sense.” He frowned, keeping his hands on your waist. Jaemin caressed your skin lovingly, staring deeply in your eyes. He respects you so much that if you tell him to wait fifty years of no kissing, he’d do it without hesitating.
Waiting has always been worth it if it’s you.
One look in his eyes, you craved the temptation and grabbed his collar, tip toeing to reach his lips. Jaemin could swear he heard you say “fuck it” and he couldn’t care less. He closed his eyes, squeezing your hips before cradling your cheek to make the kiss deeper.
Fuck it.
He’s in love with you, you’re in love with him.
Jaemin walked barefooted in hell for this and he would do it all again in a heartbeat.

READ PART TWO HERE!
Tumblr media
“I CAN DO THIS.”
Jaemin took a couple of hurried and short breaths, cracking his knuckles. He did three jump jacks and let out a silent scream.
“I’m doing this. I’m actually doing this. I can do this. I can’t believe I’m doing this.” He started to hyperventilate, now too restless that he couldn’t just sit down. Jaemin walked around his room, eyes stuck on the phone on his desk. He had the itch to touch it, but knew he had not enough balls to.
When his phone rang, Jaemin screamed and tripped down the floor, hitting his knee on the edge of the chair. “Shit!” He cursed, hopping onwards to his desk. Jaemin was disappointed to see who was the caller though.
“What?”
“Did you do it?” Chenle’s cheerful voice met his ears the moment he picked the call up. Jaemin sighed, massaging his forehead with his other free hand. “No.”
“Well, I can’t!”
“You can’t or you won’t?” Chenle sneered slyly, knowing he had caught the poor boy in his trap.
“You can’t or you won’t?” Chenle sneered slyly, knowing he had caught the poor boy in his trap.
Jaemin frustratedly pulled on the roots of his bleached hair, laughing hysterically at himself. “I won’t do it, okay Chenle? I just can’t risk it. She’s my friend—my best friend! It’s suicide. I might lose her and I can’t afford that.”
“So…you won’t do it?”
“Yeah.”
Chenle stayed silent, then finally spoke. “Okay. Have a good day, Jaemin hyung.”
Jaemin was taken back when the younger boy ended the call. He found it incredibly suspicious that Chenle took the conversation too easy. But for once, just this time, he’ll let it slide. Jaemin had enough for today.
Tumblr media
“Chenle.”
“Yeah?”
“What is Y/n doing here?”
Chenle let out an innocent grin that could fool anyone, but Jaemin knew better. He knew this was all planned.
“What? I can’t invite her for a movie night anymore?” Chenle hummed playfully, reaching for a cookie on the table. “You said it was going to be boy’s night.” Jaemin argued, gritting on his teeth. He felt like a time bomb that was ready to explode anytime.
“Change of plans.”
“Zhong Chenle, when I get my hands on you I swear to god—“
“Jaemin, hi!”
“—Chenle, thank you for inviting me here, man. Really appreciate it!” Jaemin changed his sentence quickly, letting out a forced smile when you approached them unsuspectedly. Chenle yelped in both fear and pain when Jaemin gave him a particular harsh pat on his back.
“Are you okay?” You worriedly asked Chenle immediately and the boy straightened up, nodding. “Y-Yeah, fine. Just accidentally hit my toe on the edge of the table.”
“He’s fine. He’ll be fine. ” Jaemin assured you, but the hidden message Chenle found on his voice assured him otherwise.
Too scared for his life, Chenle squeaked out a quick goodbye before running to help Jisung pick what movie to watch.
“Alright, Na, what did you do to poor Lele?”
“Ouch. How could you accuse me just like that?” Jaemin lazily grinned, feigning fake offence before gently pulling you closer to kiss the top of your head. A huge smile escaped your lips and you playfully hit his chest, rolling your eyes. “I don’t trust you right now, even just a bit, Na. Chenle’s acting weird and not the good weird.”
“Fine. But in my defense, he’s the one who started it.” He pouted and blushed slightly when he heard you chuckle. Anything you do makes him flustered, really. He’s just that in love with you.
You raise a brow, not too impressed by his excuse. “Whatever. I don’t even want to know what the mess the two of you are planning to make this time. I want no part of it, hear me, Jaem?”
That’s the thing. You are the main reason for this mess. But of course Jaemin didn’t say that. Instead, he pressed his lips in a thin line and nodded. He’s walking on hell barefooted just being in love with his best friend, yet, he’s not even regretting it.
How could he ever regret falling in love with you? You, the one who stayed up with him through thick and thin. You, the one who made him smile even in his darkest times. You’re not so hard to love, in fact, loving you is the best thing Jaemin has ever done.
“Hey lovebirds! Come on, the movie is starting.” Mark called after them, fiddling with the remote that was soon snatched by Renjun.
Jaemin flushed red but you didn’t seem to mind. In fact, you took his hand and dragged him with you to the couch. He only blushed harder.
“What are we going to watch anyways?” You ask, plopping in between Jaemin and Jeno. “A prince falling in love with the farmer’s daughter. Forbidden love.” Jeno answered, softly smiling at you.
You grinned back shyly, not used to having his attention. Jeno was the definition of perfect; he was wanted by any woman. “Ah, how romantic. Who picked the movie? Was it Renjun?”
“Shut up!”
You and Jeno bursted out laughing at Renjun’s shriek, ignoring the man’s glare. Everyone knew only Renjun was sappy enough to pick this kind of movie, even if he acts like the toughest one in the group.
Amidst everyone though, Jaemin stared at how you and Jeno kept whispering to each other, sharing side comments about the film. He sighed deeply, pain and desperation squeezing his heart. Maybe a bit of jealousy too.
Na Jaemin loves you, and he loves you so much that he was willing to keep the pain to himself if it meant losing you. He was okay if it was all one sided, as long as you’re happy.
Tumblr media
“When are you gonna do it?”
“No.”
“Hyung—“
“I don’t want to hear it.”
“But—“
“Lalalalala.”
“Yah Na Jaemin—“
“What did you just call me?” Jaemin snapped his head up, glaring daggers at the boy. His gaze was so sharp and dangerous that Chenle knew if he had a tail, it would be hiding in between his legs. He gulped and ignored the shiver in his spine. “Sorry hyung.”
Jaemin sighed and frowned, shaking his hand to shoo him away. “Just leave me alone with my misery and shame, Chenle. I deserve it.”
“No you don’t.”
“Really?” Jaemin looked up with slightly teary eyes. Chenle rolls his eyes, “No, I mean you could be not-so-miserable if you just confess. You made yourself like this, hyung. It’s your fault.”
“Gee, thanks for the comfort. Totally made me feel better.”
“What I’m saying is that if you confess, you’d probably be happily married right now raising twins and a dog in a beach house.”
Jaemin bit his lip, running his fingers through his hair, deeply thinking. He knows Chenle was right. He’d be out of his misery if he confessed, but there were just so many what-ifs that held him back.
“Hyung.”
“Hm?”
“If you really love Y/n, then why is she not worth the risk?”
This made Jaemin’s world pause.
Tumblr media
Maybe fate wasn’t really on his side. Jaemin could make the storm and thundering an excuse, but he still found himself in front of your doorstep anyways. He was shivering from the cold and he was soaking wet.
“Are you stupid?” Was the first thing you chose to ask him when you opened your door. Your eyes were wide and your jaw was dropped. It was late at night and here was your lovesick best friend, looking at you with pure adoration and hidden feelings.
Jaemin hummed, knowing too well not to trust his voice. But one look of you without make-up, hair a mess, and in your pajamas, his heart exploded.
“You look beautiful.”
You stared at him like he had grown another head. “I’m literally in my pajamas.”
Still, you’re the most beautiful girl in his eyes.
“Come in. I’ll get you a towel.” You grabbed his arm, pulling him in. Jaemin let you drag him to your room and watched silently while you fuss around, scolding him for going out in the storm carelessly.
“I mean, what were you even thinking? It’s eleven p.m., Jaem. God, you can be so careless sometimes. Your health matters too, you know! Plus, it’s a Tuesday and we have school tomorrow and I—“
“Y/n.”
You turn to him, shoving the towel in his chest. “Later. We’ll talk later. Dry up first while I make hot tea. This must be one of the stupidest things you’ve done. Before you die, I’ll kill you myself one day.”
Jaemin smiled stupidly when you left him alone in your room.
After drying himself up, he walked down the stairs to the kitchen, knowing your parents were not home to visit a relative outside of the city.
“Do you feel sick?” You asked once you noticed his presense.
“No.”
“Good. Sit down, the tea will be ready in a minute.”
He sat down on one of the stools, now admiring you pour the tea in the mugs. You tried to stop your lips from twitching upwards, feeling his eyes on you. “Why are you staring like a freak, Jaemin?”
“I’m not.” He lied, still not looking away though.
“Liar.” You smiled, serving the mug and sat in front of him, blowing on the tea before sipping on your cup.
Jaemin smiled too, mumbling out a thank you before letting out a deep breath. “Y/n, I have to tell you something.”
“I know.”
“Wait you know?” He felt his heart stop and goosebumps raised up from his skin. Jaemin gawked, looking like you just told him you killed his cat.
“Yeah, I figured you wouldn’t run to my house in the middle of the night while a storm is happening if you don’t have something important to tell.”
With that, Jaemin chuckled nervously, sipping on his tea. He didn’t really know how to start, if he should tell you he already fell on the first time he saw you, or if he should tell how perfect you are in his eyes. It was easy planning things, but hard to do it.
“Well?”
“Well, whatever I’m about to say now, I hope it changes nothing.” Jaemin started, praying you didn’t notice the crack in his voice. He cleared his throat, now trembling. “A-And promise me you won’t ever leave. Ever.”
“Jaemin, buddy, you’re kind of scaring me here.” You joked, now finding yourself nervous with how he was acting. Was he about to break off the friendship? No, that can’t be it.
Jaemin gulped, his shaking hands reaching yours. This is it. This is what he has been wanting to tell you for so long. Five words that could change everything.
I’m in love with you.
“I’m—“
Your phone rang. You remove your hand from his to reach for your phone, checking who’s calling. “It’s Jeno,” you say with furrowed eyebrows, “wonder what he wants.”
Oh Jaemin wonders too. He had the urge to beat himself up at that moment. “Will,” he gulped, shoulders slumped in disappointment, “will you answer it?”
“Maybe. But tell me what you want to say first.”
Jaemin thought for a minute before shaking his head, giving you a weak smile. “Nah, you should answer it first. I’ll tell you after.”
“You sure?”
“Positive.”
You gave him one last look before answering the call, leaving the kitchen.
Once you left, the smile on Jaemin’s face fell and he cursed at himself repeatedly. “Stupid, stupid, stupid, why did I do that? Why did I let her answer the call? Jesus Christ, I’m the worst at this!”
When you came back, Jaemin swore he would do it right and correctly this time. He gathered all his remaining sanity and confidence and turned to face you, but paused when he saw a look on your face.
“What?” He asked.
“Jeno asked me out.”
Jaemin died in the inside.

when you pick up your things in his apartment and mark tells you he still loves you.
Mark eyes you one more time then moves to make space for you to come in. You tried not to roll your eyes at him, but you did. It was hard not to show how disgusted you are being back. Especially when you know another girl has been around.
It was easy to tell, the pink bra hanging by the dining chair was the biggest giveaway.
Mark must’ve noticed where you were glaring at and he hurried to grab the underwear, shoving it in his joggers pocket. “Forgot to throw it away, sorry.”
