Cat character design proposals for a college project.

These designs were part of a portfolio of character designs for an animated mini series (it's still just a college project but it was fun!)

The portfolio is made as character design proposals for a mini series based on the Norse myth of Freya and Odr. These designs are for Byul, Freya's cat. 🐱

I’m curious, how long did it take for you to be so good at drawing animals and how do you recommend drawing them

Thank you so much!!! It makes me really happy that you like my work :3

What really helped me get into it was… starting by practicing with simple animals—ducklings, chicks, little doodle-type creatures. It helps you get used to non-human shapes!

Then move on to mammals—raccoons, foxes, wolves… there are tons of references out there, and their fur gives you the freedom to hide anatomical mistakes.

And finally, experiment with all the other animals in the world!!

One key thing though: you have to make mistakes!!!

Have ugly, rough sketches… if they look bad at first, that’s a good sign ;)

And of course,

the foundation is analyzing the structure of each animal and simplifying the shapes.

Face = oval

Neck = cylinder

A beak = triangle… but I personally prefer circles ;)
