This is the first chapter of a multi-chapter fic! Riko Aida x Reader. Fem!Reader. Fluff, a little teasing, and a slow-burn romance. All feedback is welcome!
(No major warnings for this chapter.)
Synopsis:
In the stillness of a quiet morning, you find yourself lost in the rhythm of your cleaning duty, leaving a secret note for Riko Aida—a silent confession that she’ll never know came from you. But when she arrives earlier than expected, what starts as casual conversation quickly turns into playful teasing, leaving both of you wondering if there’s more between you than just admiration.
A Quiet Morning
The classroom was still and bathed in the soft golden light of the early morning, it was the kind of quiet that only existed before the halls were filled with the chatter of students and teachers. You hummed a tune softly as you cleaned the teacher’s chalk board from yesterdays previous lesson.
The rhythmic swish of the board cleaner blending in with the rustling of a paper in your pocket. Your heart pounded — just a little — as you carefully pulled out a neatly folded paper, your neat handwriting scrawled across the front.
Another one. Another love letter.
You had made a habit of leaving them for Riko, always unsigned; so she wouldn’t know it’s you. Always slipping them onto her desk when you had cleaning duty. Words of affirmation, little notes about how strong and inspiring she was, and little sweets you found cute that she’d enjoy.
You told yourself it was harmless — just a secret way to express what you couldn’t say out loud. But today, as you placed the letter down, the door slid open.
And this time, Riko arrived earlier than expected.
You quickly shove the letter into her desk hoping she wouldn’t notice. The sound of the classroom door sliding open makes you freeze for a split second before you straighten up, and look at the classroom door.
Riko steps inside, sipping from her usual milk cartoon, her expression calm and sharp as always.
“Morning, Riko. You arrived earlier than usual. Drawing up the training regimen for the team?” you ask dusting off your hands from the chalk, as you turn to face her.
Riko pauses mid-step, raising a brow before closing the door behind her. “Morning to you too, Reader. Yeah, Hyuga and I are deciding how to prep for the Winter Cup coming up soon.”
She walks up to her desk, setting her bag down with a sigh before dropping into her chair.
“I’ve been trying to get as much training in, especially the First years since it’s their first Winter cup, other than Kuroko. The Second years have started staying later again even after I tell them to go home and rest up well,”
Riko groans, rolling her shoulders from the stress.
“I’ve been stressing since our first game is against Tōō Academy and it has Daiki Aomine; one of the Generation of Miracles.” Her voice dips slightly, as if being weighed down, just like the mention of his name alone made the challenge heavier.
You hum in thought, returning to the chalkboard to finish wiping it down. Before the teacher and the other students arrive.
“No need to stress so much. You guys are the Seirin basketball team. You’ve all been practicing so much since last year. I know you’ll be ready when the Winter Cup starts. I’ll come support you guys if I’m free, saying ‘I’m Seirin’s number one supporter’.” I say turning back to look at her.
She chuckled, having an amused look on her face, “Oh yeah, I better be able to hear you from the stands. Ok, Reader.” She said smugly resting her face on her palm a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.
Flustered by Riko’s blatant flirting, whether intentional or not. Either way, it’s working you turn away.
You smirk as you finish cleaning the board, looking over at Riko.
You grin, looking at Riko. “What if I write something cute on a sign? Maybe something like… ‘Coach Aida, the prettiest tactician in the league.” you say giving her a flirty wink.
Riko looks up at you from her desk, raising an eyebrow in curiosity giving you a playful grin. “Is that so?” she teases crossing her arms. “You’ve got some guts, Reader. I might just take you up on that offer.”
You chuckle, not taking her seriously. Her teasing tone, making your heart race in your chest.
“Guess you’ll just have to wait and see then. If I keep to my promise.”
Riko stretches her arms with a content sigh, her grin widening from your playfulness.
“All right, enough slacking off. I should probably go over the training plan again before the rest of the class shows up.”
You nod, grabbing the chalkboard eraser, a little tighter than necessary. “Right. I should finish before the teacher and the others get here.”
The distant sound of the bell rings, signalling the start of the school day. The sound of chattering, from the students and the squeaking shoes bring you both to a pause, Riko then gives you a sly smile.
“Guess that’s our cue,” she says. “See you after school, number one supporter.
The bell rings louder, students begin trickling into the classroom, the noise growing as the day begins.
- End of Chapter 1 -
This story is set during the lead-up to the Winter Cup, before the first major games start. The focus is on Riko’s stress and her relationship with the reader. I've taken some creative liberties with the timeline for the sake of this story, but I hope it still feels true to the spirit of the series!
I'm currently on S3 of knb and I've basically forgotten everything abt S2 so don't blame me 😭. I'm busy with school and such so please have mercy.
