Hiori Likes Girls Who Have Fractured Bones

FINALLY MADE A BREAKTHROUGH IN THIS ACCUSATION AGAINST HIORI (FT. @the-lazyyy-artist).

The claims:

Hiori is a stalker

Hiori likes girls who have fractured bones

Hiori is a sadist (romantically) this is always, ALWAYS implied.

Hiori is in fact none of those.

I had a previous ask about these so called “concerns” about it, but now that I thought about it deeper— yes, if you only look at these from the surface, Hiori gives off a creepy yandere vibe, BUT, its actually sadder.

I already defended Hiori as a staker claim. I must add, Hiori's light novel stated that he is breaking his normal routine which is school, soccer practice, home. And due to curiosity, since him and Karasu are observing each other, he wanted to know him because Karasu is the first person who actually read and saw him for not really liking what he’s doing. Hiori felt heard. And this was repeated on a number of occasions in the LN, Hiori felt joy for the first time.

The exact translation from the light novel at the end of the chapter with Karasu, “My ice cold heart is beginning to warm up slowly.”

Hiori doesn’t even know why he was born.

Now let’s look at his fetish from broken bones + him being a sadist.

Assumption/Claim: Hiori likes girls with broken bones

He doesn't.

The facts: His TYPE is someone who can leave him alone. That’s the kind of girls he likes. Why? If you’ve dated a gamer, you’re a gamer or you know a gamer, you would understand— they do not like getting interrupted in the middle of a game. Not saying that Hiori is addicted to gaming, you have to understand this is his outlet. He’s already in an environment where his parents are constantly on his ear telling and pushing him to be number one in the world. And if you have been nagged by your parents about this since you were a kid, it is indeed tiring. You want something out from the repetitive lifestyle.

Yo is a product of his parents’ broken dreams. He continued playing soccer for the sake of keeping his family with the hopes of also knowing why he was born.

Ya know how he rolled on the stairs in ch. 206? He didnt entirely break his ankle or anything but maybe he did. And instead of actually feeling pain physically, it created a root where if he's hurt or if he sees anyone hurt, he wants to see the response on the level of concern others show towards him, and in contrast, it's an opportunity for him to show genuine care in return. Is this making sense so far?

That was also the part where Yo realised, his parents arent actually genuinely concerned about him as a son, but as a future professional athlete. His parents treat him as a project because they’re building the world’s best striker.

I actually wanted to believe that Hiori's type is the embodiment of Toma Saya (Toda Erika from SPEC: Birth). She’s a big eater, she’s hella smart, she’s pretty funny too. Because I've watched SPEC, and Toma actually doesn't have broken bone, she lost her an entire hand, it was her left hand and she’s engaged but turned it down. 🥺 Hiori’s admiration of Toda Erika is for the purpose of aestheticism, like some normal person too (other notable characters who’s first crush is a celebrity or a fictional character: Igaguri, Otoya)

The thing is she also keeps getting injured every episode and for Hiori, seeing someone getting injured is an opportunity for him to show care about this woman.

Hiori actually shows genuine concern and care for his teammates who have actually been injured - those characters being Rin and Chigiri.

I think we really have to be careful on using the terms “like” = “pleasurable” = “fixation” = “obsession” = “fetish” = “kink” (I will discuss the “kink” = “hiori is a sadist” claim further on a separate post) but this concept is what we called pejoration. It is where a positive word becomes negative especially if the word itself is taken out of context. And this doesnt just apply to Hiori alone but to other characters as well.

Is it concerning? From the surface, yes. But if you “read” deeply, its sad.

Let’s look at connotation and denotation, and slippage in semiotics and literature.

His EB doesnt state that he is a sadist at all. It was more like his teammates in Bastard Munchen declaring him that, and also Hiori declared himself that.

This claim for me is HIGHLY misunderstood, because a lot of people immediately associate on a romantic scale. When it is not.

Hiori as a sadist is implied in his playstyle, not him as a person or as a partner. I particularly love this explanation from Reddit.

And it calling someone a sadist particularly in a sports anime is kinda common too, its an expression when a person is wanting to see their teammate suffer. Sugawara called Oikawa a sadist, and heck the Karasuno boys called their coach a sadist too.

Sadism in sports is a thing, its mostly implied in combat sports. But for this context, its the behaviour of wanting to see your teammate break themselves and work hard for something and that gives you satisfaction that they are worthy of that pass, worthy of that toss, whatever it may be.

I think that my biggest problem with Percabeth(aside from the obvious signs of abuse on Annabeth's side and enabling on Percy's) is also just the "They're the most important people to each other/each other's tether to their humanity" narrative that's so prevalent in the fandom despite not making that much, if any, sense when you look at the characters. I'll only focus on PJO, as that's the one I'm more familiar with and where this first cropped up(and then was made worse with every subsequent book)

They're sixteen at the end of The Last Olympian, and have known each other for four years. Four years that Percy spent with his loving mother and Annabeth at a camp where she was presumably treated rather well and was clearly at the very least respected enough to be listened to.

Despite this, we never see Annabeth positively interact with any of her peers at camp(begrudging understanding with Clarisse doesn't count), leaving Percy, Grover, Luke, Chiron, and later Thalia as the only people who care about her with significant pagetime, and of who she would logically be the least attached to Percy. Obviously, they're important to each other, but the way the narrative frames Percy as the only thing effectively keeping her grounded leaves a bad taste in mouth, and Percy's side isn't much better.
