Thank you!! Well, my process is different on traditional vs digital, but I'll explain a bit. As the big rule, I chose one color in a specific shade and saturation as my main interest, all of the colors around it are to make the main look pretty (and to try and match the object/character base colors as understandable as possible), and I'm lazy so I dont erase, I layer. So, I try to maintain the proportional values of the object (i.e. if the hair is lighter than the skin, or the eyes are darker than the clothes...) but working around my other rules. Sometimes it looks similar to the original subject, others not so much. Also, I add color as I feel it would harmonize with the rest of them, I don't care about real life limitations.

I also experiment a lot, but I don't show it much, here is an example

As you see, lot of colors, doesn't make much sense- meh, doesn't matter. As long as you prioritize value, shape, it's intriguing enough to keep on looking at it.

Another study for something i wont show for probs a year. On paper, I am even more colorful and saturated because of my markers! I just wanna find all of the good combos that there are. It's trial, intuition, error and repeat.

Here with madoka I just wanted to paint a magenta-pinkish pink.
