Wailing sobbing crying about how often Jinshi is mischaracterized as a possessive prince obsessed with his new toy even by the fans. That boy has had every single thing he's ever cared about ripped away from him for the sole purpose of limiting his attachments and yet he still can't help but let himself feel them. This is a guy that will probably never see the throne but still has had every single experience shaped by it. The amount of choices this actual teenager has gotten to make about his own fucking life are probably capable of being counted on half a hand.

People are so quick to notice the patterns of motherhood and how it's thrusted upon women and the children suffer due to it, but no one is talking about how Jinshi is one of the biggest examples of this. His concubine birth mother twitched him at birth. The woman who raised him seems to have never formed an entirely strong bond with him. His nursemaid would hide his toys if he grew to love them too much, as she obviously saw it as a future distraction. To this day, both Suiren and Gaoshun view his emotional attachments as a prince still screaming for his toys.

The apothecary diaries as a whole is a story about lack of agency. It's about control, and how culture and gender and social status all feed into the same beast that no one ever truly escapes. No one in the rear palace is truly free; no one outside of the rear palace is ever truly free. Those that live their dreams are lucky, and permitted to do so. Jinshi is no exception. No matter how close he gets to someone, no matter how strongly he holds them or bites them, or claims them, it will never be enough. He can claim all he wants, but they will still be treated as a distraction he must grow up from. They will still be toys locked away for his own good.

Another thing I love about Yeonsol is how they are a Yuri coded RR couple and not a Yaoi codded one. As I jump into the Yuri whole I realize that more and more and I love it soo much. Truly my fav flavor or RR.

You wanna ship canonically aspec characters because “aro/ace people can still date/have sex”? Okay, then. LET’S DO IT.  I wanna see an aromantic character with an alloromantic love interest. I wanna see that confession of undying love and the moment when the aro character says they will never feel the same way—not romantically.

I wanna see the asexual character with their allosexual partner. I wanna see that moment when the ace characters tries sex with their partner for the first time because they want to make them happy only to realize that they are 100% sex repulsed.

I wanna see the two demiromantics who don’t even know if what they feel is romantic attraction, but they adore each other and just want to make healthy snacks together and destroy each other at Mario Kart.

I wanna see the two aces who love sensual affection and are figuring out what they define as sexual or not.

I wanna see the romance + sex neutral aroace who happily and consensually does whatever makes their partner happy…but their partner still struggles with feeling undesired.

a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

Something about Apothecary Diaries and the complexity of what it means to have a mother. Something about Maomao and her only memories of her mother being silence or a pain that has nothing to do with her but is reflected onto her anyway, and yet still engineering things so that Lakan, years later, would come to find and marry her. Something about all of the courtesans in the Verdigris House being like mother figures to Maomao, yet never paying attention to her when she cried. Something about Loulan doing everything in her power to not be a mother - taking drugs to avoid it, knowing that to have a child would be a selfish, cruel thing, even down to 'killing' the children who adore her. Something about Jinshi, and both of his mothers - the one who birthed him and the one who raised him. Anshi, and raising him to be mature and older than he should have had to be to be the opposite of his grandfather, the man who victimized her, and Ah-Duo, unable to be in his life because she chose to give him up. Something about mothers not being unconditional and uncomplicated; something about motherhood being absent, ugly, confined by circumstance or by past pain. Something about not wanting to be your mother; something about being too much like your mother. Something about how your mother haunts you regardless.
