homestuck as a whole is about jokingly pretending to enjoy things ironically to make fun of them and carrying itself in the facade of just doing a bit and never taking itself seriously but it commits to the bit so hard that it just goes 180 that its extremely genuine and it cant help but take itself extremely seriously. it can claim to be joking but no joke lasts 8,000 pages and by page 7,000 its just crying begging on its knees asking for you to care cause it cares so much and is deeply in love with itself and all the stupid things about it. it embraces itself fully in all its stupidity cause it has things to say and a story to tell. and its deeply enchanting if you can let yourself get in the bit too

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

i don’t think people understand how much of life is grief. not just people dying, but losing the version of yourself you thought you’d become. grieving the city you had to leave. the friends you lost not in argument, but in silence. the summer that will never come back. the feeling that maybe you peaked at 12 when you were reading books under the covers and believing in forever
