i don't go to my hometown that often, but when i do, i always make sure to visit my favourite bookstore and café (a cute kitty joined us this time!) and go on a long walk, like in the good old days :)
p.s.: you may have noticed that i've changed my url a bit. i think it reflects my content better (although not at the moment, since the academic year hasn't started yet) and i plan on using @katarinareads as a sort of book journal sideblog :)

june was a crazy, hectic, stressful month filled with blessings. i got a teaching job starting from september, presented a paper at my first international conference, and passed my bachelor exams! so i am officially one degree hotter :')
and now i can finally take some time to relax and tackle my stack of unread books :)

So much peace to be found in realizing that social interactions are inherently “awkward.” People will always talk over each other or pause in a conversation or run dry for topics at times. It does not mean you’re uniquely horrible or that you don’t know how to socialize. I think it’s the way you react to it (either with anxiety or with nonchalance) that actually dictates how much weight it has. But even the most charming, most extroverted person on this earth has those momentary lapses that I think scares anxious (me included) people so much

Wake up and open your curtains. Your windows too.
Drink some tea or coffee, whatever pleases you. Notice every sip.
Have some fresh fruit and finish breakfast feeling full.
Stand outside and feel the air. Cool or warm, it will make you feel real.
Get some exercise. Yoga to soothe, running to breathe, lifting for strength.
Take care of your body. Have a nice shower and pamper as much as you want afterward.
If you’re going to work, remember you have the chance to make anyone’s day or to ruin it. Act accordingly.
Weed out the bad language. It’s only creating tension in your body and mind. Kind words are infinitely more appreciated.
Take some time each day to improve your mind. Keep reading that great book. Listen to an incredible piece of music. Practice an instrument or a skill. The progress is its own reward.
Pictures will help you remember how wonderful life is. But spend less time on your phone and more time seeing the world face to face.
Go to sleep knowing that you have done well. Tomorrow is there with room to become even better.
-Notes to myself on how to become a better person this summer.

i've been revising math every single day for the past two weeks, and it has not been very aesthetic :') less than a month to go before my bachelor exams and thesis defence. switching between studying at home & the library has helped a bit, and i try to spend time outside as much as possible.

I am sorry to everyone who tagged me in some tag game and I never responded. I saw it and thought “aww they thought of me” and proceeded to forget about it right after

“Don’t get me wrong: you can learn a lot on the internet. You can learn more than at any previous time in history. But ingesting information is only half of learning. The other half, the more important half, is responding to that information, thinking critically about it, about what it implies. Does it fit with your worldview? If not, why not? This is the part of learning that turns knowledge into wisdom, into action. This is the part of learning through which you create yourself, and it demands mental free time, time when you’re not consuming media of any kind, when you’re doing nothing at all. By greedily claiming every appointment on your mind’s timeline, the internet erases these vital hours from your life.”
– ‘I Think the Internet Wants to Be My Mind,’ Escape into Meaning: Essays on Superman, Public Benches, and Other Obsessions, Evan Puschak
