I've had a few blogs that I've managed inconsistently and a twitter account I hardly use. I'm no consistent producer of social media content. But - I needed a space to just - jot down some thoughts when they arose. List down places I'd been, places I wanted to go to. So. Here we are. This is my bucket. Not my bucket list. My bucket. A place for me to accumulate my thoughts, my experiences...and STUFF.

I walk my local park regularly, and have for a long time. Sometimes I ponder the first peoples of this land-Cabrogal country, Darug Nation. Their stories, their traditions, their ancestors and elders, and those who survive today. Does any of the land I walk on today resemble the land as it was, say, 100, 150 years ago? There are signs our First People’s presence and sacred sights scattered around Australia, if you know where to look or how to keep your eyes open, if they have survived colonisation and urbanisation and desecration. I’ve never noticed these before in all my years of walks here, but i think these are scar trees. The size and shape of the patch of bark cut out looks like it would serve like a shield, or plate, or carrier, and the tree remains standing, healthy. In the space that is left there are markings-some carved graffiti, sure, but also hand prints. I don’t know if they’ve been there a week, a year, or many years. Kinda cool right? :) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmp2jwHPld2xuDfu9Ni5O9iae-ZLyx1jjdF1Y00/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What to they say about all good things? Espressory has been my regular and favourite coffee place for over 6 years. They make excellent coffee, excellent chai, efficiently, consistently, and are really well priced. They are a unicorn of coffee shops. I’ll miss morning chats @saint_petey and the whole @espressory crew a lot. Enjoy some morning sleep-ins Pete, you deserve it. And I look forward to the next venture-you better tell me about it! #bestcoffeeintown #coffee #espressory #itssohardtosaygoodbye #imnotready (at Espressory) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClkBEhxvY4KqQnngBgIJR4z6Wv-iXxjForzKUA0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Saturday in Melbourne: The day started with the clearest blue skies and warmest temperatures we’d experienced for a while. @cowiel and I headed north-ish, and ended up brunching at Code Black Coffee. - I had their prawn xo scramble which was texturally wonderful: a little subtle in flavour for something with XO sauce in it, though the succulents used for garnish added delightful hints of saltiness. - @cowiel got marscapone blintzes with pineapple. Afterwards I meandered down Sydney Road where I managed to - stumble into an ice-creamery called Billy van creamy. I left with a block of chocolate and a scoop of their lamington ice-cream (would have it again); - shortly there after I ended up at Ratio Cacao Roasters, one of Melbourne’s eight bean-to-bar chocolate makers. I walked out with more stuff and a keenness to attend their factory tour sometime. - eventually I ended up on the balcony of @one_orange_sock , drinking bubbles, eating takeaway, indulging in our love of musicals and taking in a full blood moon. It was a good day. #melbourne #chocolate https://www.instagram.com/p/CbVDHzGPuHVv5EOeMQbvo4o4iXEWsky2z-qziA0/?utm_medium=tumblr

A night out with @thehonourablec to a Sydney Opera House dressed in Ukrainian colours. The skies were so moody they reminded me of an impressionist painting. Under the sails, I was glad to finally see the Darlinghurst Theatre Company’s production of A Chorus Line. What an incredible show, with a company full of talent. And even on such a stage; Angelique Cassimatis is incredible as Cassie. It sure made me yearn to dance. #livetheatre #musicaltheatre (at Sydney Opera House) https://www.instagram.com/p/CapFDpGvz_BEBp___AIfkAFxRNlip-UymzEJo00/?utm_medium=tumblr

Mini break with @sathya_myskin_mystory looks like this: blue waters, dramatic skies, and an air bnb host that supplies tiramisu, to be enjoyed on the back patio. https://www.instagram.com/p/CYBaV8oP_HahCVP6912cgzgjV7y_pbUkOM7cyc0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Everyone I know who has seen it has been raving about the Hayes production of Sondheim’s ‘Merrily we roll along’. I finally made it tonight, with the added poignancy of today being mere days after Sondheim’s passing. It’s an incredible production of a complex work. I love the design of the show, and it’s really well cast. Each shift in narrative made sense and the show felt cohesive, which isn’t easy. Each character had an identity that changed as time reversed. And at the end, Ainsley Melham took a moment to acknowledge Sondheim. To quote my friend Murray: “I have a lot of feelings.” It’s that sort of show. It’s funny that anyone accuses Sondheim of being unable to write a hummable melody-my friends and I walked out humming many a melody. Merrily at the Hayes is wonderful. And virtually sold out. But if you can get a ticket, GO. #rememberingSondheim #musicaltheatre #hayestheatre #merrilywerollalong (at Hayes Theatre Co) https://www.instagram.com/p/CW5lAN8PqkbRZrKPKMGFMXIy-GdQHdJQANEMOE0/?utm_medium=tumblr

First return to Ragazzi since this latest lockdown ended. It was hard to choose, I always want half the menu, but I settled on the tonnarelli with sea urchin and green garlic. First taste: the comforting, homely feeling that came from the broth/sauce/emulsion. I was told it was stock-based, and it tasted like that, like good things cooking over time in a pot building layers of simple, homely flavour. Second taste/impression: salt and umami. Not too heavy or rich, but full of flavour. Also the garlic. I love garlic. The plate is garnished with sea urchin, and each tiny bite tasted of the sea, salty, briny, undiluted. The tonnarelli were long, slender, slightly wavy noodles. I liked them. Not to oversimplify, but they gave me flashbacks to the mee goreng I had yesterday and the ramen the day before, adding to that homely and familiar feeling. I really love all things noodles and pasta. #food #pasta #noodles #sydneyeats #ragazzi (at Ragazzi) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWj7tVhv2xIw2lIgrl67RNcGyeDYwUN_TonZis0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Theatre night tonight: Come From Away! Always such an uplifting show, and it was fun to be with my singing peeps. Thanks to the lovely staff member at @capitoltheatresydney who got me that nice pack so promptly and courteously. My swollen ankle appreciates you. Lockdown cooking adventures with truffle: 1. I made fresh pasta, by hand, for the first time ever, and it was not a disaster! It includes truffle fragrances eggs in the dough, eaten with a fried truffles egg and a shaving of truffles 2. Truffle stuffed roasted chicken drumsticks on a potato dauphinoise-wow that was a delicious way to eat potato! Now which is the best carb: pasta or potato! 🧐 (approximity to a thinking face) #lockdowncooking #truffle #trufflepasta #freshpasta https://www.instagram.com/p/CRqUxTfF4U0Q7CAv8F421UDIQznSn3T8OHcxJc0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Infusion, No Movement No Sound. Saturday 5 June, 6:30pm at the Studio, Sydney Opera House. Well done @luckylartey @yacou_mbaye @byronmarkmusic and collaborators. Another night out at the theatre with Fun Home. I went in relatively free of knowledge or expectation and loved it-it was an ambitious and moving story with complex characters, told in an interesting way. A character can be beloved and amazing and disturbing and harmful and damaged and hurting all@in one complex tangle. I loved the show design, the way the photographed space was used, the way it would turn. The cast were excellent. So glad I went. #funhomemusical #sydneytheatrecompany #musicaltheatre (at Sydney Theatre Company) https://www.instagram.com/p/COQBpsUF2N39RQEw-w3NfgTYUzKAgh9s_unuDk0/?igshid=1b5i85kneu0h

Low-key loving hanging in the shade at Liverpool on a roll with a full belly, Archie rose cocktail in hand, listening to Joseph Gatehau Duo. Opening with Bachelor Girl is kind of a bold choice. Lotsa good nineties and nineties friendly grooves followed and the odd vintage. Didn’t know the “new” one but dug the harmonies. Who doesn’t want a John Mayer moment to include a Vanessa Carlton interlude, shortly later followed up by a bit of Farnham? Getting to quietlyfill in a third harmony from my little corner in the shade is just bonus. #livemusic #liverpoolonaroll #josephgatehau https://www.instagram.com/p/CNyuS7TFLtwgYAPCmxD0Y8H4KFvvFVPK4tzslY0/?igshid=1p1lrdxm034xx

Last night marked a return to Arendelle. I was pretty emotional the first time I saw Frozen and I remained emotional last night-the show is genuinely beautiful, with some great character and writing moments. @courtneymonsma was born to be a Disney Princess-she moves between awkwardness and grace in an instant, gives great face, and maintains beautiful vocals and endearing charm throughout. @jemmarix_oz vocal control and accuracy never wavered for a moment, and she makes you feel the poignancy of Elsa’s conflict. Thomas McGuane is perfectly cast. Ensemble harmonies are 👌👌👌 making the coronation number a musical highlight. The tongue-in-cheek humour holds up to a second viewing. Young Anna and young Elsa are even better than they were a few months ago. The show provides the entire company many a moment to shine, and they do, from Oaken (Blake Appelqvist) to Pabbie (Jakob Ambrose, who my friends nicknamed “abs”-sorry to objectify!) to Bulda (Jayme-Lee Hanekom) who is scene-stealingly charismatic. Watching the kids run out to play in the falling snow was a bonus delight. There are elements of staging that sort of story that are hard, and they’re not always pulled off, and other parts are spectacular stage craft. Regardless, it’s a fun night out, and I’d see it again (again). Was a pleasure to get to see it fellow musical theatre tragics @ellaarendelle and @thehonourablec and Pete-can informally start a petition that Frozen’s puppetry team talk to @one_orange_sock ? #frozenmusical #musicaltheatre https://www.instagram.com/p/CNj6YCJFrv06oTtWOcLHvz-E1cjXdM8MrXo1740/?igshid=o2lilxg24kg2

It was a pleasure to attend the opening night of “Well-behaved women” last night with two dear soul sisters @thehonourablec and @sueleelim and a full house at The Hayes. The celebrated a diversity of women and women’s stories in songs that made me think, laugh, nod and smile, and cry. Ursula Yovich slayed me channelling the pride and conflict of the mother of an iconic Chinese heroine. But all of the women on stage shone. So glad to have watched it. #theatre #musical #hayestheatreco #wellbehavedwomenrarelymakehistory (at Hayes Theatre Co) https://www.instagram.com/p/CM19dhbl0LhEVLWE82k1E0riq-sqEYGJ-pSeCA0/?igshid=1khdk7nqx9zl0

Trying to clean up all the random stuff I have in my house and I stumbled across these physical relics of the past: - a dolphin necklace gifted to me in eight grade by a high school girlfriend, who left my life not long after - an assortment of single gold earrings. The other side of each went missing long ago (probably down the drain, I lost a lot of earrings in my teens that way) but I loved them enough to keep them - teddy bear earrings from my bestie around when I was 17 - a show present bracelet from my uni musical theatre society - a single mother-of-pearl style earring purchased in Singapore in 2005. It was my first overseas trip as an “adult” - three pendants purchased in Venice in 2006. They were presented like murano glass to fool naive tourists like me but they were cheap knock offs made who knows where - a painted ceramic pendant. I did love wearable art, which is why I also have... - a single enamel earring with a picture pasted to the top, purchased from the Queen Victoria markets in Melbourne. I really loved those earrings but the image is peeling off now - silver horse earrings from Paddy’s Market, purchased in that mysterious teen horsey phase some girls go through - two of my first SIM cards. Kept for memories and conversations, probably of naive attempts to flirt with boys. I’m not sure if I’ll keep any of these but now Instagram will always hold the memories! #memories #oldstuff https://www.instagram.com/p/CJzmU5GlbhlQD5q38WND2myF6ozFpiaVbwAFZo0/?igshid=djgs1tnutzc1
