In a language that contains words like devotion, passion, enthusiasm, love, fascination, obsession, etc., I can’t help but regret this tendency to cram all those meanings into "hyperfixation," a word which manages to pathologize and medicalize the act of having interests.

I saw someone say that that trailer leaking is a result of "starving the fandom" and I have to say that this attitude is absolutely horrible? First of all, y'all don't know what a "starved fandom" is if you weren't around for the 13 years between A1 and A2. Not to mention, between A2 aand A3 we've gotten comics, concept art, AND a video game.
Furthermore, I'm not gonna begrudge anyone for watching the leak, but if you're approaching with a "hah, take that!" attitude, that's extremely negative and entitled.
#avatar#you guys need to stop treating cinema as a commodity#get over your mindless consumption and have a bit of patience

Am I the only one who thinks Avatar fans are slowly going extinct?🙏🙏
Please interact with this post and moot me up if you’re an Avatar fan (pls divas, don’t go anywhere)

#avatar#avatar the way of water#lowkey i need newer fans to understand that the fandom did not start with twow

A subtler detail that showcases the unfairness of human society in Avatar 1 is Quaritch’s and Jake’s conversation when they meet one on one for the first time. Until that point, the movie establishes that Jake is dirt poor in spite of giving his spine in a war zone. An abandoned war veteran.
Meanwhile Miles goes on to explain the origin of his scars and whether he should pretty up his face when he rotates home. The old man ends up deciding, with a smirk, that he’ll keep the face scarring as a status symbol, which shows us that not only is Quaritch uber privileged, he’s also filthy rich. He looks a young man dead in the eye, a man who will forever live in poverty because of his disability, thrown to the curb, about whether he should dunk his money into a plastic surgery purely for cosmetic reasons. He’s so far up his ass he can’t even recognise that this casual show of wealth might be inappropriate with this particular person.
We are very lucky that Miles from A1 didn’t raise Spider.

I don’t personally think she would, simply because within the Omatikaya, Iknimaya is a hunter’s rite (yeah there’s Kiri but Kiri is magic so it doesn’t really count). I think it’s likely she would have devoted her time studying to succeed Mo’at, not train for Iknimaya. After all she probably had her own coming-of-age rites to pass as tsakarem.
I think it would be very cute if she hitched rides on Seze with Neytiri and was maybe a little jealous that Neytiri got to do it and not her.
Cute ideas nonetheless, I’d read this fic.
Do you ever wonder if Silwanin had a bonded? She was a few years older than Neytiri (probably 4-6 if not more judging by the comics, where Neytiri was around Tuk’s age and Silwanin looked like a young teenager), so it’s safe to assume that, since the average age where children become adults is 15-17, at the moment of her death Silwanin had already underwent both iknimaya and uniltarion (+ she was probably around Tsu'tey’s age, and he was already an experienced hunter at the time of the movie). Neytiri herself, being 16, probably had already passed her rites of passage. Iknimaya is mandatory only for hunters, and that wasn’t Silwanin’s role, but that doesn’t mean that only hunters can do it, and I don’t see why she wouldn’t want to get an ikran.

I wonder, how did her iknimaya go? It’s likely that both Tsu'tey and Neytiri were present, maybe even her parents as well, with Tsu'tey advising and guiding Silwanin kind of in the same way Neytiri did with Jake. Imagine Silwanin and Tsu'tey flying together during her first flight like Neytiri and Jake did. Imagine Silwanin taking Neytiri to fly with her before she bonded with Seze, and then flying together once she did. Imagine Silwanin and Tsu'tey having little dates on ikranback through the Hallelujah Mountains. Imagine the three of them soaring together through the skies along with their other friends.
Imagine her ikran sensing the danger the day she was killed, rushing through the forest to protect her (like Tanhì did with Kiri), only to arrive and find out it was too late. And ikrans bond with only one Na'vi throughout their lifetime. Imagine her bonded retreating to the Hallelujah Mountains because the grief is too overwhelming, and what’s the point in staying at Hometree if Silwanin is gone, anyway? Only Seze and Tsu'tey’s ikran sometimes still approach her, having been so close to her in the past. From time to time, Neytiri and Tsu'tey catch a glimpse of her still roaming the skies above Hometree, almost like she’s hoping to somehow catch sight of Silwanin. And when Eywa called all of her children to protect their home and drive the invaders away, the same invaders that took away her bonded, she answered.

"he should have trusted the Metkayina to help her" but, he did? he let Ronal do her thing which is ultimately what saved her. but of course he will also exhaust every means possible to help her, including help from two very smart people he very much trusts!
one thing i do really like about Jake and Kiri's relationship is how a lot of their scenes illustrate that Jake's view on Eywa and the Na'vi way has changed a lot. when Norm says Kiri can't connect to Eywa ever again, Jake's immediate response is "ever?!" because he knows how much that means to Na'vi society and especially to Kiri!
Jake has his parental shortcomings but everything between him and Kiri is really good including this scene
One thing I think about a lot is how Jake calls in Norm and Max when Kiri seizes underwater. I saw people give him shit for this, and as someone who is not his Biggest Fan, I actually kinda wanna give him a pass for this? Like as someone with chronic illness, and a protective dad, I get it.
His daughter had a near fatal medical incident, and so of course he's going to call the literal neuroscientist (Max) to come check her out, as fast as he possibly can.
When I had an anxiety attack in the hospital, I have a vague memory of my dad going Papa Bear mode to get me help, so that is one thing that does endear Jake to me a bit.

AI uses em dash so much because HUMANS use it!! yall need to understand that what shows up in AI is not random, it doesn't come from nowhere, it comes from what's in the dataset
"If you use em dash in your works, it makes them look AI generated. No real human uses em dash."
Imaging thinking actual human writers are Not Real because they use... professional writing in their works.
Imagine thinking millions of people who have been using em dash way before AI becomes a thing are all robots.
REBLOG IF YOU'RE A HUMAN AND YOU USE EM DASH
#irl#fanfic related#because i use em dash SO much in my fics#and i hope no one thinks theyre ai now lmao

My name is Abed.
I’m a survivor from Gaza, holding on to hope in a world that has fallen apart around me. 💔
The life I once knew — my home, my family, my sense of safety — has been shattered by war. Today, I live among the ruins, trying to find a path forward through the rubble and heartbreak. 🏚
Every moment is a battle against fear and uncertainty. What was once ordinary — a safe place to sleep, a future to dream of — now feels like a distant memory. 🕊️
I share my story not to seek pity, but to keep hope alive — to believe that even in the darkest places, kindness can still find a way. 🤍
If my story touches your heart, please consider sharing it or offering support. Every voice, every act of care, brings me one step closer to safety. ✨
Thank you for taking the time to listen. 🙏

another native here. literally so real and true. as soon as the concept of the mangkwan being in movie 3 was confirmed i muted the one (1) fandom discord i'm loosely in. if it's Not Bad i'll be relieved but i'm anticipating the worst for them, and it's so unfortunate because there's a lot that i know native writers could do with this setting! forever rotating the hypothetical cooler version in my head. been nodding at your posts all day. here's hoping 🥂 irayo
yeah, at this point i'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst, because i honestly do not fully trust the writers to pull off moral ambiguity like that very well at all. i would kill for them to hire just one (1) Indigenous writer even just for the extended media like the comics or games. til then at least we have the hypothetical cooler version haha. fanfiction my beloved.
thank you for sharing your thoughts!

oh yeah. additional point to this post: if all of this ends up being true about the Mangkwan and they are a bunch of evil, animalistic beasties obviously riffing off Indigenous stereotypes, i will literally never shut the fuck up about how awful it is and how much i hate James Cameron and every other white writer he hired. like i really hope i’m right and they aren’t doing this but if i’m wrong, ooooooh my god dude
in other news i can’t be the only one weirded out by the theories and fanart that make Varang and the Mangkwan seem like evil, animalistic beasties, right? it’s weird, right? like the theories that they eat people or are going to torture Neytiri/the kids or cut off people’s huru or limbs, that’s weird right? i’ve even seen theories on discord speculating that they’re somehow biologically “less intelligent” and “more brutal” and i. woah perhaps we should unpack this

you’re right and you should say it, and i’m honestly very sorry you’ve had this experience with the fandom. it’s a serious issue, and one that’s turned me off from interacting with most of the fandom spaces—and i’m white. but a lot of the ways people write, talk about, and draw Na’vi just so blatantly draws on stereotype, and if anyone ever dares point it out (even BIPOC—dare i say, especially BIPOC) they get hit with the “it’s just fiction” cop out.
no one’s perfect! no one expects you to be! i’m not Indigenous, i have residual biases and there are things about Avatar i’ll never understand because i don’t have that experience, but the least anyone can do is be self-aware and continually try to improve. but most of all i will always try to make my account a place where Indigenous fans (and critics) can voice their opinions without worry of being dismissed outright.
i love Avatar for many reasons, and i criticize Avatar for many reasons, because i think mindlessly consuming media obviously based on real-world people and their struggles without seriously confronting its flaws and listening to those it’s based on is just… inherently exploitative
in other news i can’t be the only one weirded out by the theories and fanart that make Varang and the Mangkwan seem like evil, animalistic beasties, right? it’s weird, right? like the theories that they eat people or are going to torture Neytiri/the kids or cut off people’s huru or limbs, that’s weird right? i’ve even seen theories on discord speculating that they’re somehow biologically “less intelligent” and “more brutal” and i. woah perhaps we should unpack this
