I know they came out like a year ago but I am obsessed with auglur's design 👀 was it inspired by dreamcore or similar aesthetics by any chance because they totally give off that vibe!!

it truly means a lot, I worked for months on that thing haha, any and all compliments/fanart I file away in my brain forever

There were two main inspirations I had for auglur:

biblically accurate angels (i.e. seraphim) which I think is pretty self explanatory

vaporwave aesthetics, specifically those backgrounds with the sunsets

I don't think I'm allowed to share any of my concept art since that belongs to the company but here's a very crude diagram:

I was given the audio to base the monster off of and it felt super retro and vaporwave-y to me because of the synth so I immediately thought of these backgrounds.

As for the angel aspect, I think it was a friend who had told me it sorta sounded very angelic/ethereal (haha) and I've always been a big fan of seraphim designs as well as object heads. I mostly wanted to come up with a monster that sounded as cool as the music I was given!

I like to think I had some success on that front. The community has given it a very very warm welcome to my endless gratitude.

there are a lot more abjectly harmful and meanspirited april fool's jokes out there but the one i personally find most annoying is when american game devs pretend that they're going to make a visual novel spinoff of their game because they can't imagine making visual novels in earnest
