So this came up at work today...
My boss asked me today "do you ever think of marshmallows floating in hot chocolate thinking they're in a hot tub or jacuzzi, like they're just relaxing." And honestly i think someone should turn this into a Disney short film.

Becoming the Storm
Here is my post for the first day of Renora Week! This is also my first (complete) fanfic, so I hope ya’ll enjoy it! :)
Her heart pounded in her chest. Her breathing was as loud as the crunching of leaves under her quick feet. She wasn’t really sure how to cope without him. For so long, his very presence right by her side had been the only thing keeping her from crumbling. It wasn’t just his semblance, in fact he rarely used it on her anymore. It was more than that…. Nora had never really come to terms with the harrowing ordeal of her past. Ren was the only one who could see past the mask she put up, the only one she let in. He understood her. He’d been there too. They’d always taken care of each other. It was their promise to each other. But now… she didn’t even know where he was… or even if he was okay. She felt like she was drowning. All these emotions where rushing through her like a river. Fear, anger, pain, worry. She could still hear the creatures coming behind her, she wasn’t gonna be able to outrun them for much longer. They could sense her fear. She would have to stand her ground and face them head to head. Nora took one deep, calming breath, stopped in her tracks and turned around abruptly. Her knuckles became white as she clenched her fist around her hammer. Images of Ren flashed through her mind. Suddenly, he became younger, and as he did she was transported to a time long ago….
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Nora where are you!” Ren broke through a clearing his hand shielding his eyes from the sun as his gaze searched the perimeter. They were playing hide and seek, and so far, Nora was wining. It had been hours and Ren had still not found her. “Nora c’mon… just come out already. You won, I surrender…” Nora snickered. She loved driving Ren crazy, it was just so fun. The look on his face right now was priceless. He looked so frustrated, and honestly, she loved the way he stomped his foot in exasperation. It was adorable. But maybe she should come out now, she has had her fun. Plus, she was getting kind of hungry. At this point, Ren was walking toward her hiding spot. Nora decided to wait… Just as he walked by her spot, Nora pounced on him, tackling him to the ground and tickling him mercilessly. But Ren didn’t seem to react. In fact, he just glared up at her. Nora paused in confusion. Ren seized the opportunity to turn things around on her. Nora could not stop the laughter from erupting. Her giggles seemed infectious and soon Ren started laughing too. Soon, they were rolling in the ground, breathless, clutching their stomachs, unable to stop. Finally, Nora was able to choke out the words. “I’m… hungry….” Ren stopped laughing and got up. “Let’s go find you something to eat.” They stood up and started walking out of the woods they had been playing in. The nearest village couldn’t be to far. The roads here looked well-traveled, although they had not seen anyone on them so far. Once they reached the gate of the village they realized why. It must have been fair day. There were hundreds of people gathered around, there were streamers and banners in all hues waving sporadically in the wind, children could be heard laughing all around, and most importantly to Nora, the smell of food permeated the air. They walked in through the main gate; it was so crowded no one noticed them. They walked around all the stands, admiring the toys, food, jewelry and other goods the merchants were selling. Finally, they came to one small stand that caught Nora’s attention. The lady was waving around what seemed like a fluffy pink cloud on a stick. Nora tugged on Ren’s sleeve. She pointed at the stand, eyes filled with wonder. “What is that?” she wondered. “Cotton Candy.” Ren paused, “You’ve never had it before?” Nora shook her head. She’d never seen edible clouds before. “We’ll get you some.” Ren looked resolved. “You know what to do, like we’ve practiced.” Nora started crying and screaming. The woman in the stand dropped what she was doing and ran toward Nora. “Are you okay sweetie, did you fall? Where’s your mom?” “Someone took my bear” Nora sniffed. “Who did?” The stand owner looked concerned. “They ran over there.” Nora pointed in the opposite direction of the stand. When the woman looked, Nora glanced back at Ren. He waved at her, cotton candy in hand. “What did they look like?” Nora snapped her gaze back to the woman. “I… I don’t know, they came out of nowhere… and they just took it.” Nora did the best puppy eyes possible. “Here, I know what will cheer you up.” She walks back to the stand and hands Nora gave her a fluffy cotton candy ball. “Here you go.” Nora smiled, thanking the lady, and ran off. Ren joined her once they were out of sight. They are their treat behind a building, enjoying the sugary taste. Nora was fascinated by the edible cloud. It seemed to disappear in her mouth as soon as she bit it! It was wonderful. Ren smiled at Nora, visibly happy at her delight. They hadn’t enjoyed themselves this much in a while. It had been months since the fateful day they met, and they had spent the entire time on their own, going from village to village, stealing or scavenging for food, seeking shelter in abandoned buildings, sheds, and the like, always looking over their shoulder and watching out for Grimm. But for the first time, all that seemed to fade away, even if only momentarily. Despite the horror they had faced, their dirty, tattered clothes and the fact they were hiding behind some stables, they actually felt like normal kids for a second, just enjoying some cotton candy, laughing and having fun. As Nora looked into Ren’s magenta colored eyes, she was overwhelmed with gratitude for him. Without him, she would have never made it out of Kuroyuri, let alone survived all these months going from one place to another. She owed him her very life, yet he still just treated her as a friend. He never expected anything in return for his kindness. Nora still wanted to pay him back in some way. But what could a poor orphan girl offer anyway? But as she watched Ren, and saw the smile on his face, a sight she hadn’t seen until today, she felt determined to make him smile more. Their life would probably not get any easier, or at least not soon, but Nora decided it would be her duty to not let their circumstances keep them from laughing and smiling and having some sort of fun. If not for Ren, then for herself as well. From that day forward Nora became the girl that always saw the bright side, that strove to cheer others up, to bring laughter to the hearts of those around her. She had seen so much pain, and misery and tears in her young life, but she refused to let that define her. She wanted to ensure that no one ever felt the way she had; children especially should have the chance to laugh and play without a care in the world, like she and Ren had just done. One day, Nora dreamed she would be able to save little boys and girls from the same fate she had suffered. She dreamed of a world where no Grimm would ever take away someone’s childhood. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nora, with her purpose fresh in her memory, charged the Grimm with every ounce of strength she had. If Ren, her calm in the storm, was gone, she would become the storm. Nothing would stand in her way. Nora Valkyrie would never feel helpless again. She would find Ren; she had made a promise and no matter what happened, she would always keep it. Even if she had to destroy every Grimm in existence.

This. Thank you. You've read my mind
CAN WE TALK ABOUT NORA VALKYRIE REAL QUICK
Hey but forreal I wanna talk about Nora Valkyrie for a second and why she’s my favorite character in the show.
We have to take into account each hunter/huntress’s backgrounds for this to work, and once we do, you’ll notice a pattern. Naturally, paying for the training and a basic custom weapon + ammunition it takes to become a hunter/huntress in training takes no small amount of money, which would most likely be coming from their parents.
Pyrrha comes from a background of fame and fortune and presumably a normal family, so it is no surprise as to how she is able to afford Beacon and her custom weaponry and ammunition. Jaune comes from a long line of warriors; his family name no doubt has a lot of prestige and power behind it. Blake’s parents seemed to be the only family with a mansion in all of Menagerie, and are deferred to by the White Fang. Not to mention, Blake joined the White Fang at an early age and got extra training and experience beyond her peers. Weiss comes from the Schnee family, owner of the Schnee Dust Company, one of the richest families in all of Remnant. Ruby and Yang, though not super rich, are descended from three of the most infamous hunters and huntresses in the world, and would naturally get certain privileges other children would not, such as training and elementary combat schooling. Even Ren, who was an orphan for most of his life, was still raised by a seemingly upper-middle class family with a warrior father. Even after his parents’ deaths, their savings would transfer to him anyways. All of Nora’s classmates have come from backgrounds that gave them some monetary (or otherwise) advantage. Becoming a hunter/huntress can be safely assumed to be a vocation reserved for the upper-middle/upper classes of society.
But Nora, from birth, has had next to nothing to her name. No family, no money, no food; just her and the streets. As a child, she likely slept in the forest and under houses, and had to beg and steal just to make it to the next day. She’s dealt with bullies and law enforcement, starvation and sickness, without anyone’s help. Of all of her classmates, she has had to fight the hardest to get where she is today, and somehow remains positive about it regardless. This is exemplified in her fighting style: swinging around a giant hammer at lightning speed. She hits fast, hits first, and hits hard. This isn’t finesse or style, like Pyrrha or Weiss. She learned that from fighting to survive from day one.
Without the funds necessary to acquire a custom weapon such as Magnhild with ammunition that would be more expensive than most such as grenades, she most likely had to become one of the top students in her class with very little experience, and probably without even adequate clothing or previous education. Other classmates could have bought their way up with better gear and better training, but Nora Valkyrie earned it all through sheer hard work.
But she hasn’t let her past define her or even touch her in any way. She remains positive and infectiously bright through the worst of times, and loves and cares for her friends with a vengeance because she hasn’t had any before and isn’t willing to let go any time soon. And as a result, she has one of the hardiest auras of the show. This, combined with her extreme and extensive training, has granted her intricate knowledge of the inertia of her body and Magnhild during combat, a technical skill generally unnecessary unless you’re Ruby Rose or Blake Belladonna, that likely requires a lot of quick mental calculations. She has a strong, inherent, and deadly understanding of physics that allows her to navigate the battlefield and apply tactical pressure as adeptly as any of her classmates with smaller and more agile weapons.
So I really hate when fanfiction and fanart portrays Nora as exclusively this airheaded comic relief character who’s an adorable badass-but-for-no-reason. Obviously she does have a reason, and though she does often serve as a comic relief character, it’s still in tune with her nature and runs deeper than just a plot device: she doesn’t want her friends to feel down because she’s lived within true sorrow and loneliness, and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Yes she can be silly and distracted at times, but in no way does it detract from her brilliance. And I especially hate when they portray Nora as ‘Ren’s girl’, and define her entirely through her relationship with him. Of course she has a natural inclination to be with him, but not once is she ever considered lesser to or dependent on Ren. She’s a much rounder character than people allow her to be, and is entirely her own person.
so yeah tldr nora’s fuckin dope come fight me bitch
