Enough of crazy eating. I've been eating mountains of desserts and snacks recently. It's time to stop and evaluate what I want. 10km signed up for less than 8 weeks - it's time to get serious about running again. Prawn and grilled sea bass salad with a bit of mushroom quinoa on the side for dinner tonight.

Eating clean and healthy is something we should all be mindful of but too much of anything is bad for you. Strike a balance. There's a difference between strict and extreme. Keep healthy peeps

Avocados are one of my staple foods. I have at least 4 a week. I love mine smashed on my sourdough bread with a perfectly poached egg. Mastering the art of knowing when to eat one has taken some time but I would say I'm expert now. :) Happy avocado eating :)

Half Marathon!
Sorry I’ve been gone for so long.
After my short trip home I was will with vertigo and when the textbooks say it can last up to 6 to 8 weeks they were not kidding. For nearly two months, every time I turned my head to the right the room span. It made me feel pretty sick which meant no training and no running. I was pretty gutted but it didn’t stop me from running my first half marathon.
Before I ran the marathon I tried to do as much core and strengthening exercises. My trainer, KC pretty much stopped me from lifting heavy which helped me to get leaner for my run. My workouts went from daily to three times a week due to my vertigo. I only managed 3 10km runs the whole time before the marathon. I have to say my biggest regret was not running enough.
SO WHAT HAPPENED?
On the day of the run, I got up at 2.30am to catch up the 4am bus to Disneyland. The run started at 6:05am. I was EXTREMELY nervous and I wasn’t sure whether I was going to make it within the time limit of 2 hour 45 mins. My aim was to complete it.
It was dark when we started running and to be honest with you the adrenaline got me through the first 17km then all I could think was “why have I not trained?” My legs were feeling very heavy and I don’t know how I finished it but I did!!
I’d like to thank everyone whom supported me on this little challenge of mine. And you know the best news - I was one of the top 30 female runners. A special thanks to Jonathan whom signed me up and took up the challenge with me.

Home Run
Sorry for the lack of updates. My training hasn’t been going so well. I had vertigo 3 weeks ago then I returned to my homeland for my best friend’s wedding. The week pretty much involved EATING till I was practically rolling around. I did manage to fit in 3 gym sessions and a 10km run. I grew up in the suburbs of Greater Manchester and running at home during my favourite season made me miss it even more.
It was perfect weather for running too. Here are some snaps of my run.

Now that I’m back in Hong Kong the training has got to get serious. Does anyone out there have any ways to motivate me?

Why I love running?
I was never a runner at school. In fact, I was pretty substandard at any sport in school. At university, I pretty much did nothing but walk to and from lectures. My life changed in the first year of working as a junior doctor. I’m sure you all know that life as a junior doctor is TOUGH. Nothing really prepares you for what you have to deal with. Dealing with loss of peoples’ loved ones never gets any easier and ‘switching off’ for me has always been a problem. That’s when I discovered running.
My friends signed me up for the Manchester 10km run and that is how my running began. I pretty much became addicted to the endorphins and how I felt after running! I loved it so much I ran every day (until I sustained a knee injury).
The best thing about running is that ANYONE can do it. You need a pair of trainers and that’s it! It means NO expensive gym membership and let’s face it running on a treadmill is SO BORING. Outside, you can look around and see other runners and give each other that ‘nod’ as you run past each other. Runners you all know what I’m talking about right? - That nod of respect and where you’re telepathetically communicating “keep going dude!” *high five*
If you have a dog, even better! Take your dog out with you! If you don’t like running alone then find a running group - there are loads in every city, a quick google search will bring up a list. Park Run is a FREE timed weekly 5km run and you can find runs in most towns and cities in the UK.
Personally, I love running alone. I can set my own pace and I can listen to my well thought out running playlist. I like to have a power song at around half way through my run when I know I’m about to hit the ‘wall’. Taylor Swift, Sia, Jess Glynne and Jessie J are a few of my favourite artists right now.
There are a number of health benefits associated with running which include weight loss, eliminating stress and helping with depression. Running is great cardio. Gets your heart rate up which means it’s good for burning fat and increasing your metabolism. I know right now, everyone says running for long periods is bad for you due to muscle breakdown and it’s more efficient to do HIIT. It’s true but hey, if you enjoy it then continue by all means. Let’s face it, have you EVER seen a fat runner? Doing any exercise will decrease your risk of heart disease.
So what’s stopping you? Get your kicks on and explore. :)

Life's a beach :) This weekend I managed to run, gym, hike and spend time on a beach. I think that's pretty productive, don't you think?

Hello all!
Running mileage has been increasing SLOWLY. Been super lazy with my running. Still making it to the gym every day but the 6am wake up calls have been snoozed so no morning runs this week. I have to tell myself IT WILL BE OK.
Just come home from purchasing some new trainers. The dudes at Nike did a snazzy analysis of my gait and fit me with a comfortable shoe. So far, loving my new kicks. Taking them out for a 5km test run tomorrow.
Hope you’re having a happy Friday - best day of the week (if you don’t have to work EVERY Saturday - working in Asia sucks sometimes!)
