I love Yoshi's but with Gojo where she explains a bit about the binding vow between her and Wendy, and then that dumbass tries to tell her it's impossible. And she sasses him so much, it's great. But this means its established that her stuff is kinda different, maybe doesn't follow the same rules about how much cursed energy or not, and interacting with non-sorcerers.
So, with that in mind, I was mulling over the potential of her healing chocolate coins. And like, could they be given to or used by non-sorcerers? And I came to a couple ideas, the simplest solution, is that she imbues it with a given predetermined amount of her own cursed energy when she makes it, and the talisman could store it for use on a non-sorcerer or depleted individual. Another option, is that what if it was like a strange dream catcher - the longer a non-sorcerer carried it around, that over time it'd absorb and store whatever cursed energy that person did have, and then they could use it. Or, three, it could do some weird time bullshit, where it'd heal them then, but then over the next period of time, it'd collect ambient/the person's cursed energy until it made up that deficit and met the debt that had been incurred by the healing, and then poof, the talisman is dead and destroys itself.
All of this was a very very convoluted rambling thought that led back to the idea of mcu!Yoshi, because she would not give a single fuck that Peter Parker has a healing factor, that is a child. But also, would that mean she could also help heal Matt? Instead of actually healing his injuries or shit,, that dumbass would just,, use it so he could immediately go pick a fight with an entire mob gang, or pop it mid fight to avoid dying, but still end up dragging himself out of the aftermath beat to shit so bad he's still more dead than alive. Yknow, the kind of responsible and not at all self destructive choices he makes.
Oh, 100% this is how it works. It's imbued with a set amount of energy, to be used on whoever consumes it. I think it would work on anyone, though maybe not as efficiently on someone with very incompatible curse energy. (What makes them incompatible? Fuck if I know).
I like the dream-catcher function—I might use that for a different talisman down the line. As for incurring a debt through timey-wimey bullshit, it's a bit convoluted (tho when has that ever stopped me?), but anything that incurs a debt has to be explained to the individual. That's why Yoshi has to go talking to Naoya after she bit off his ear, and why she sits down with Kasumi in the middle of a fight. Does she explain things thoroughly or clearly? No. Does she do so in a timely manner? Also no. But, she does inform others when they make a deal, because that's a component of dealmaking.
Ironically, Yoshi has the same problem with eating a healing coin just to go fight some more, and that's why Wendy usually holds on to them. Matt is not allowed to carry his own chocolate coin. We have to give it to Foggy, and let him decide when it should be eaten. As long as he remembers it's not a regular chocolate coin, we're good.
Coincidentally, that was my roundabout way of coping with episode 1 of DD:BA. I was Not Happy about that first scene, but you know how we can fix it? Giving Foggy a way to totally cheat death survive that gunshot wound. And they made it pretty freaking hard, given the circumstances, so the best I came up with was ✨magic✨
As for Peter, he also runs the risk of forgetting that the coin isn't regular chocolate. And if this Peter is Jewish, it's even funnier if he mixes up the healing coin with regular chocolate gelt during the holiday season... It's a calculated risk. There's no downside to eating the coin when you're uninjured—I think the power just dissipates into the ether. But still funny, because someone eats a very nasty-tasting chocolate for no reason.

So I've been thinking about Yoshi meeting out favorite lawyers, and then of course, you mentioned that little nugget of info, that Foggy watched the rec league that she pitches for. And now I'm torn between "what if she meets foggy because of weird small world happenstance" and my original thoughts, which circled around her meeting them in a professional capacity.
Cause it's new york, I can totally see how she and Wendy could end up having to deal with some shitty landlord and seeking out legal assistance. Or maybe Yoshi decked someone he totally deserved it, and now he's trying to press charges (personally, I do think it's kinda funny the idea that Yoshi has, until that point, not really faced many consequences from her habit of solving problems with her fists). So she begrudgingly seeks legal representation. Or perhaps she's trying to sort through the process of applying for disability for Mariko.
And if Wendy was around for any of this? I think it'd be really interesting how she might react to Matt, cause well, it's complicated. His intentions? Generally good. But also he is dangerous, and has been involved in wild shit. I feel like she might be a bit distant and closed off, distrusting at first, just cause there's definitely something going on with him that isn't what it seems and it's a lot to try and figure just from a vibe check. And Yoshi is just generally vaguely distrustful and closed off to strangers.
Foggy crows about this whole situation, teasing that "finally! Beautiful women who aren't immediately charmed by Matt!"
But I can imagine that maybe, she starts to warm up to him after she mumbles something colloquial (and probably quite rude, or at least put of pocket) in Spanish. He hears and fails to completely suppress the snort, ends up sorta coughing on the sip of his coffee that he just took. She clocks this and thinks "hm he's alright maybe."
Or if they're helping Mariko get disability, maybe she has to leave for a moment, step into the other room briefly for a call, or whatever, and she comes back and he's talking softly to Mariko in Spanish. Since sometimes that's easier for her to understand and maybe respond to, and Yoshi sees that genuine gesture. Matt, unlike Gojo, definitely would be more understanding and empathetic learning about Mariko's condition - handles it better than most people.
I love the idea that Matt keeps coming back to being curious about 'that pitcher lady'. Sorta in denial about being interested, annoyed that he keeps randomly thinking about her and the definitely supernatural shit she had going on. Tells himself it isn't important, then justifies to himself that it makes sense to be concerned because she could be dangerous. After a week (or few) of being kinda distracted, finally manages to convince himself to move on from worrying about some random civilian, and then she walks in the office door.
Oooh I've thought about this too! I think Foggy only notices Yoshi in passing at the rev league, but has never spoken to her and it takes a moment for him to recognize her up close as that really good baseball pitcher.
My biggest problem with getting Yoshi to meet N&M normally is that they're all the way in Hell's Kitchen while she's either living in Queens or on the Lower East Side. So, they'd have to have a bit of a reputation already and she'd need a strong recommendation to seek out N&M...
But, besides that geographical question, I LOVE the idea of Matt helping out Mariko!! He would be so kind to her, because he can sense how anxious she is about new people and trying to communicate with them.
I have no idea how Wendy would react, tbh. I think Matt's vibes would be so wrong but also so right for the office life, she might put on her detective hat and investigate until she discovers Daredevil out of sheer insatiable curiosity. Or, she would avoid him like the plague because if he noticed too much about Yoshi and herself, he'd be the one uncovering dangerous secrets.

Anything to erase from my memory that terribly rushed ending

I was starving for a piece of your content, so when you started going off the rails with your yoshi/ MCU headcannons I went insane hahahah
I missed your writing and crazy ideas even if it’s just for small pieces like this, but anyway that sent me back to your ao3 account and I never liked BNHA that much but HOLY SHIT that Toph fic you have is INSANE, I haven’t caught up with it yet and it’s fine if it’s discontinued. I just wanted to say that your level of writing skills is freaking insane, like even years ago you were just that good wow.
Nobody writes badass women like you do I can totally see how you came up with such a well written oc after reading IMM
Hope life goes well for you, and thanks for having fed us all this food 🤤🤤
Stop being so nice to me 😩😩 Thank you for the kind words!
I do my best to write the things that I want to read about! And I appreciate how you've recognized my writing ability, but I promise, it's come a long way. Most of my skill comes after taking storytelling classes in college—I went to school for 2D animation, though it's not what I want a career in anymore. But, I had to use my words to pitch stories that were going to be visually-told, so my writing has become more vivid.
My writing has come a very long way, but I was always trying to create badass women. My very first published fanfic, which is now deleted (thank god), was about an airbender OC in ATLA that god trapped in the ice with Aang. I think I was 13 at the time, and it showed. I got a ton of criticism in the comments on FFN, and I eventually gave up on the fic entirely, but there were a few scattered compliments and words of encouragement from strangers that gave me hope and kept me inspired to write more things.
The fact that anyone bothered to send me a message to say that they liked my story—that was tremendous. And it still is, every time! So, thank you for reading my stories, and letting know you enjoyed them!!

ok but I love the idea of Yoshi in ny and running into mcu nonsense. She'd be such a menace and I'm living for that.
It's such a goofy idea but there's so much fun potential for like,,, a 5+1 times she runs into avengers or whoever, where she does not know/remember who they are, and then once when she does. Because just think about it,, especially if theyre in civvies, not all suited up? She and Wendy are out getting coffee/bagels/sandwiches or something, and Wendy goes to pick them up, and when she comes back, Yoshi is just talking to Captain America? Of course Wendy immediately knows who it is because look, he's incredibly buff and incredibly kind, of course she does. Yoshi does not realize until later, when Wendy is telling the story of how they met captain America Steve Rogers; he was wearing nice jeans and a T-shirt, how was she supposed to know it's the guy who ran around WWII in a US flag onesie? Or if she interacted with Tony and has no idea who he is, as Stark industries rich boy or Iron Man, "that's just some white dude." You know he'd sulks about it for days.
and also, can I just mention how wildly delighted I am that you like daredevil? Cause Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock has had me in a stranglehold since 2015 and clearly you have ✨taste✨

Yoshi calling it "the Palm" fuckin **sent** me. I full on snorted my tea reading that. Once again, **this** is why I'm so glad to be on the same brainrot train.
Your thoughts on Pointdexter really made me pause for a moment, cause it kinda made me realize, that Yoshi might actually not get a long with Daredevil that well. At least, depending on the perspective taken with his characterization. I feel like she'd like Jessica though, or at least respect her quite a bit (the 'fuck around and find out. I dare you.' energy is strong in both of them)
But I had the thought that maybe that confrontation wasn't the first time that he'd seen her.
She's out on a fieldtrip or something with her baseball kiddos, or they're playing in the evening after school, but it's fall so the days are short and it gets dark early, so they're wrapping it up for the day. Or maybe one of the kiddos, something happened in their family and the normal family unit who accompanies them home from practice can't be there that day. Something is up so that day she ends up walking this kid and their cousin back to extended family's place in hells kitchen. It's definitely a bit out of her way, but there's no shit she wasn't gonna look out for them. <strike>Am I really fumbling for justification to explain how this could happen? maybe. But this image idea was too fun not to</strike>
Matt is just starting out his night, and we know he's got a soft spot for kids, so when shit starts to go down, they get attacked or something, he's absolutely ready to show up and commit violence. But he gets to the scene and is vaguely confused and impressed cause there's just some lady absolutely whaling on these professional criminals with a baseball bat. Someone goes to grab one of the kids, on the other side of the group, out of her reach, and without missing a beat she spins around and whips a ball into the side of their head knocking the dude out. And Matt just spectates this happen in a few moments as he reaches the scene and realizes that huh, she did not need his help. He still listens from a distance after to make sure that the kids finish getting home ok.
Then, when he sees her out, at the start of that conversation you described, there's a moment of confusion and bafflement because wait a minute, this person isn't new. He knows the swishing sound of her jacket paired with that subtle strange hum that he almost feels in a tactile way under her skin, rather than hears, it's not bloodflow but there's undeniably something about her, and her scent - the lady that could absolutely handle herself and protect those kids, who had a bit of feral savagery that feels familiar in a way he doesn't want to acknowledge, is **Reina Ariyoshi**, the same lady whose been moving through his little piece of the city

No no, I'm not making it worse, I'm making it better! I'm encouraging the EXACT hyperspecific content I want to see in the world!
I would read every single drafted version and scribbled out idea you have of this world, even if it's three different versions of the same conversation. (I actually love seeing previous iterations or cut bits from writing, I think it can be interesting window into characterization to see the choices and versions the writer came up with, but didn't make it in) I am not exaggerating, it's one of those situations, if you have 1 fan, it's me. If you have no fans, I'm dead.
I've been suffering from daredevil brainrot, so getting to yap with you about it and play with fun silly little ideas is literally the best it gets, since not of my IRL people are into DD.
I mean the easy explanation for why she can't teleport is that the Black Hand took some of her stuff - after the first or second time she managed to get the cuffs off, everything was suspicious, so even those weird slap bracelets were tossed into the Hudson. Also I can imagine that trying to clearly picture a location might be a bit hard when you're still working through ketamine, even if she's conscious again. <strike> By morning if she's still at his apartment, she's already forgotten what the old man was calling him, it was some nickname of a name? </strike>
Also, I cannot stop laughing at her vague bafflement and internal monologue that vaguely remembers my social anxiety about ah shit this old blind man sucks but this guy seems to care and what do I do now???
The (tried and true) Yoshi special: dumping people in random bodies of water, off the bridge, by Montauk, mei mei in the South China sea.
I feel like after Matt figured out that she **will not** be figuring out his secret identity, he actually ends up feeling more comfortable around her than average, and it takes him by surprise when he realizes he's just not as tense and shit (amazing what reduced paranoia will do for your mood!)
But now I've been thinking about her interacting with Matt, (not Daredevil). Remind me to come back to this - I had silly little thoughts. For the moment I'll just point out that ok so if in some AU Yoshi ended up kinda being friends with Matt. On that idea of Nudge kinda messing with him - even when he knows there's something weird, no amount of careful observation will explain how things just seem to not quite listen to physics around her.
But if they were friends? She'd 100% use it to (harmlessly) fuck with him. Waits till they're playing pool at Josie's and he's had a drink or few, and then just makes tiny changes to mess with his shots, see how long it takes him to notice

I blink and suddenly there’s a Yoshi in the mcu au.
Can you imagine this girl meeting Frank Castle? I’m dying thinking about it
It's an AU that's been percolating in my head since March, when the new Daredevil series was released and I was mad about a character's death. I thought to myself "If Yoshi were here it would this would never happen 😤" and then I became delusional and started thinking of ways to put Yoshi in the MCU since she lives in NYC where all the action is.
I eventually posted something vague about Yoshi and Marvel on my blog and then @mykobirb started egging me on. Now we're here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I already know how Frank meets Yoshi. Not sure what comes afterwards, but of course I've thought about their meeting...
It's late at night, and certain subway stations are sketchy as hell. No cops, very few civilians, no working cameras. Frank is in the middle of his revenge rampage, so it's an ideal station for him to use. He goes down to a lower level for a train and sees a random woman vandalize a construction sign.
Yoshi places a mark on the construction sign. It just looks like she's doing graffiti, but what it actually does is deter anyone from walking past the sign—you look at it, and suddenly that dark tunnel of tracks puts the fear of god in you. Fight or flight kicks in. You don't go past that sign, you steer clear.
Except Frank is a war vet, not an average New Yorker with a healthily developed sense of get-the-heck-outta-there.
And after she marks the sign, Yoshi hops down onto the tracks and disappears into the tunnel to deal with a cursed rat spirit that's been eating people. And Frank follows her, because he's suspicious and concerned and does not heed the sign.
What happens next is a lot of yelling and gunfire and rat guts and magic.
At the end of it, Frank has a headache. He genuinely considers leaving New York and never returning. But in the end, his need for revenge and justice wins out, and he does his best to forget the whole mess in the tunnels and hopes he never runs into that girl ever again.
Frank Castle's face is plastered across all the news just a few days later. Yoshi skims a few headlines, and wonders if the guy in the news is a nutjob or if there's more to the story. She'll never know.

I'm gonna keep encouraging the MCU Yoshi brainrot:
I feel like her nudge would absolutely mess with his ability to sense things though, like, sometimes things just move when they shouldn't, and there's no air currents to indicate what made the trajectory shift, it makes no goddamn sense. They just,, move.
And her open/close storage on her knuckles? He's so certain he'd have known if she was carrying something as big as a baseball bat but suddenly there's just one in her hand? What happened?? If she's shamelessly teleporting, poor man is gonna be so fuckin confused lmaoo.
All of this got me thinking, so here's the real question: if she met Daredevil/Matt, would she figure him out way too fast (Yoshi is smart! And sorcery bullshit). <strike>She puts 2 and 2 together the minute she meets the other side of the coin, but doesn't realize it's supposed to be a *secret* identity, and kinda doesn't care</strike>
Or, is the meme that she's the only person he doesn't constantly worry about connecting the two halves of his life, cause homegirl can't remember anyone's name, seems to be a lil bit face blind,, calls him Demon Man.
You're killing me. I love you. I'm going OFF in this, oh boy.
Yoshi accidentally outs herself as a sorcerer to DD long before she ever figures out anything about the Demon Man of the west side, because she has no idea he can sense her teleport and summon items from a pocket dimension and Nudge items out of the way. People rely so much on their eyes, they can't accept it when they witness the impossible. But Matt knows his senses. Trusts them. And he is certain that there's something supernatural about the girl that pitches for the rec league Foggy likes to watch after work. (Oh look! Another convoluted way to make characters meet my OC!!)
And oh, Yoshi 100% cannot recognize Daredevil as Matt Murdock.
He does his little Batman voice, walks confidently, and suddenly has the grace of an acrobat—my girl does not have the capacity for basic addition here. She uses tells like voice, gait, and mannerisms to differentiate between people when their facial features don't stick in her mind, even when she forgets what to call them.
When Yoshi finally admits that she has face blindness—and she will avoid doing this for as long as possible, because fuck you, mind yo business, maybe I just don't care what your name is, bitch—it will come as a huge revelation to Matt, and also include a bewildering sense of relief because hoo boy is that guy paranoid about his secret identity and this girl is physically incapable of spilling the beans...
Ok, I admit that I've put a lot of thought into how I want Yoshi to actually meets Daredevil. Because I'm obsessed. You're making it worse, by the way.
Anyways:
It all starts when the Hand gets the idea that Reina Ariyoshi could become their Black Sky.
See, it's not a one-of-a-kind weapon, it's just tapping into the potential of the right person, the ideal candidate—Stick killed some random child in S1 DD, but they eventually found a new Black Sky in Elektra, though only after she died heroically and was revived with dragon bone cocaine. (I'm summarizing). It's never made clear what makes a person a candidate for becoming the Hand's zombie ninja assassin. So, it could be anybody...
Anyway, Season 1 of DD, Stick and Daredevil team up to stop the weapon exchange on the piers—except this time, the weapon turns out to be a very confused Yoshi who is chained up, drugged (watch your drinks, everyone) and babbling in Japanese at Nobu, middle finger of the Palm. Yoshi's many tattoo talismans are cockblocking him and his goons by negating their witchcraft with her own witchcraft. They are not knowledgeable enough to know that's what's happening, they just know they needed magical chains to keep her from unlocking her cuffs for the third time.
But just imagine it. That scene on the docks goes very differently once Stick shoots an arrow at her face.
Drawing first blood by cutting her cheek, that breaks the illusion clouding Yoshi's powers. She's still roofied. Still surrounded by goons. But now she's awake enough to look Nobu in the eye and promise to kill him for good this time around. (The first time they tried to capture Yoshi, she dropped Nobu off the Brooklyn Bridge. That's why they went subtle and drugged her drink at a club instead).
Then the man in black steps in and beats up goons with her. He's actually quite useful. Who would've thought?
Stick tries to kill her, and it's really awkward because Yoshi can see he's a blind old man, so maybe she should just teleport him... no wait, there's a witness... are they father and son? Keeps calling the black-shirt guy "Matty" and Matty keeps begging the old guy... so maybe let's not kill the old guy, since they're friends...?
She and Matt end up locking Stick in a shipping container. Then Yoshi faints blacks out in a cool way because she is, in fact, still drugged with ketamine or something. At this point Matt thinks he's done for, Stick's been calling him Matty this whole time while they fought, he's already halfway to exposing his identity and he almost got this girl killed—he takes Yoshi back to his apartment to protect her from Nobu, who escaped but clearly was calling for back up.
—I could keep going. It's a little alarming how much I could keep going with this scenario. Have I written out a dozen different ways the dialogue between Matt and Yoshi could go? Yes. But the fact of the matter is that unless there's a reason I can get Yoshi to be unable to teleport, she is climbing out the window of Matt's apartment and Noping out of there as soon as she thinks he can't see her.
The whole interaction leaves them both baffled and annoyed and suspicious. Like, ew, why didn't he just bring her to a hospital?? And what the hell, did she just teleport away??
From there, Yoshi decides she needs to oust the Hand from her city, because fuck those dudes and any other cult doing bullshit in her hometown. She runs into Stick alone, and dumps him in Montauk (he calls his homies in the Chaste to say it was a false alarm, there is no Black Sky).
Shortly after he gets his new suit and the Bulletin puts out its first 'Daredevil' headline, Matt starts hearing about a new player beating up thugs that work for Madame Gao...

As much as I dislike Geto for being a genocidal maniac I fully love Benjamin Poindexter in Daredevil. He is also unhinged and kills without mercy but you know what? He tried really hard for most of his life to be happy and sane and keep his head down. Maybe, because of who he is in the comics and the narrative of Daredevil, it was inevitable that he would eventually snap and start killing people with any and every object he could fling.
But you know what? He went back to getting treatment in the end, because he needed it. Then he got pulled back into the murdering business because of Kingpin and Mrs. Kingpin. I'm pretty sure he's getting some semblance of a redemption arc in season 2 (though it will not have a happy ending for him), and he'll deserve it! Get that man another good therapist, damn it.
Also I just think Dex is pretty neat. If you couldn't tell already, I'm very impressed by the idea of having impossibly good aim. He's even killed a man with a baseball. If he and Yoshi were friends I don't think Fisk would've been able to turn him into Bullseye.
#i'm just saying!!#he's neat#and i like his crazy good aim schtick#daredevil born again#daredevil#benjamin poindexter#daredevil bullseye

'If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck (is red and gold), it's Iron man!' This genuinely made me laugh so much, it's just the right amount of absurdity. See this is exactly why I had to yap with you about MCU Yoshi, cause you have 10/10 genius ideas like that, shit id never come up with.
"She takes her cues from the demon man in Manhattan and starts breaking legs" it is so quintessentially Yoshi to forget the name of one of the OG vigilantes in NY, and just call him demon man. I vaguely remember you saying something about how half her neighbors in queens think she's a vigilante, and that was just in normal not MCU nonsense.
Wait, if she's in Queens, she's 100% seen Spiderman. Why do I feel like she'd immediately go "oh that's a teenager, whomst the fuck let their teenage out doing this??" Would still help him with his Spanish though
Wait wait, so if it Daredevil/Jessica Jones finding her right? Maybe it's been a few weeks since she started going out in her own neighborhood, so word gets out that someone's out in ?Queens? absolutely wrecking shop on some chucklefucks involved in shady stuff. Jessica makes a slightly snarky comment to Matt about how he's getting out of his comfort zone, been getting out more lately, far from home. And he's just like huh? Cause he still stays in his part of the city, so what is she on about? And she tells him how there's stuff happening and it seemed a little far from his usual turf but otherwise not so different from what he does, and then the next morning, there's some super speculative gossipy headline about how 'Is the devil of hells kitchen expanding?' but yeahhh no that's enough of that time to go figure out wtf this is and shut this shit down if necessary, do not need his name on another list cause folks think he's out doing stuff he ain't. So that leads Jessica and Matt to go track her down?
don't mind me just sitting here with my lil blorbo, I have adopted Yoshi, having silly lil fandom thoughts cause I have daredevil brainrot right now
Yes to almost everything here, oh my gosh i am eating this up you have no idea.
Yoshi is very much concerned for Spiderman. In this nonexistent AU, Yoshi is around the same age as the Defenders because I say so, and Spider boy is 100% a child that they all worry about.
The only thing about Yoshi is that she doesn't stick to Queens. I had a whole convoluted theory on how and why she moves to the lower east side because of ninja cults and befriends Bullseye before he goes nuts backstory in which she currently in Manhattan, but even if she's still in Flushing or something, my girl can teleport and she does so with no shame.
So, Yoshi gets a little too close to the demon guy's territory. She did not think he was actually territorial, but turns out he's that weird. And the dude knows her full government name, what the hell, it's like he hired a detective to stalk her (Yoshi is getting a strange sense of deja vu. Didn't this happen to her in Japan and she got coerced into being a teacher for a hot second?)
"Stay out of my city, Ms. Ariyoshi--"
"I live here." She points out. "I've been here the whole time."
"You don't know who you're messing with. The Hand is ruthless..."
(Devil-man keeps yapping after this point, but Yoshi is too busy with the revelation that she's been calling the ninja cult "The Palm" for the past two years and nobody ever corrected her).
Also! I rewatched a bit of Iron Fist even though I don't like the show very much. There was cage fighting in it, and Yoshi? Paying for a place of her own on the Lower East Side? She totally does cage fights on the weekends to help pay the bills. I don't know what she does for her normal 9-5 but I know that she is brawling with the heavyweights in illegal cage matches on the side.
But back to Iron Fist—the protector of K'un Lun (how do you spell that?) is one of the few people that Yoshi can always recognize because of their massive dragon tattoo that oozes with magic. It's a magic signature that gets seen over and over again through centuries of talisman sorcery. The magic stuff being done in K'un Lun isn't so different from the magic stuff that Yoshi uses.
One day she ends up in Colleen's dojo and Danny walks in and—
That's the Iron Fist. What the fuck? Yoshi tries not to stare. But now he's looking at her and aw man, he's walking over.
"Hi, are you new here? Colleen's running late and I offered to teach the first half of the lesson." He smiles, bright and friendly.
Yoshi squints at him. He's pretty young. In what she knows of K'un Lun's line of protectors, they're usually huge show-offs when they're young and new at their job. Also, they don't leave their magic mountaintop unless the Palm is plotting some big evil plot.
"I just wanted to see Colleen. She's been asking me to stop by," Yoshi admits, avoiding any mention of how they know each other from illegal cage fighting.
"Oh, got it." He nods vigorously. "That's cool. How do you know Colleen?"
She stares at him. Is she supposed to pretend he's not the Immortal Iron Fist?
"I'm Danny, by the way." He frowns. "Do we know each other?"
"No."
"Because it kind of seems like you know me, but no one's recognized me since I got to New York."
"Are you trying to not be recognized? Because you're doing a very bad job of it."
(It takes them another half hour of talking around each other before Danny realizes she's recognizing him as Iron Fist, and not as the long-lost heir to Rand Enterprises.)
#oh lord do i know how to yap#currently the brainrot is FIXATED on benjamin poindexter but i held back#i just think yoshi would find his throwing ability really neat#and dex would also be impressed by her but it would get out of hand if they became friends#jjk oc#this girl is barely a jjk oc at this point HA

There's an anon message talking about Yoshi in the MCU that I can't reply to on mobile, weird glitch idk, so I'm just gonna blab about it here....
I will not commit to any fic writing on this, but you would not believe how amused I am by the thought of Yoshi living in the MCU's New York. And yes I am locked in on Daredevil right now, Charlie Cox's portrayal is just perfect, I love him.
The thing about Daredevil, though, is that he is tangentially involved with some mystic cults. His shitty role model, Stick? Is a general of the Chaste. Some of the crime lords that DD fights also work for the Hand, another cult, and they're magical enough to reanimate his dead girlfriend. That sounds a helluva lot like JJK sorcery. The stories are fairly compatible, especially once you introduce the wizards on Bleecker Street.
But you know who else is tangentially involved with mystic cults? Reina Ariyoshi. She would MAD AS HELL if there were multiple mystic cults doing magic stuff in her city. Child soldiers, murdering captives, ninja armies, necromancy? Someone put dragon bones in cocaine?! Yoshi takes her cues from the demon man in Manhattan and starts breaking legs. She read one headline from the Bulletin about him and said 'Well I can do that too'
And given that they're living in the aftermath of the Avengers battle, Yoshi would probably just spill all the details as soon as any Defender cornered her.
"Magic. That's your excuse." (Daredevil or Jessica Jones are the only ones that could actually track her down.)
Yoshi: "You can't act like it's impossible. There were aliens in Midtown."
And as for all the other characters Yoshi might cross paths—she really would run into Captain America without knowing it. He says something wistful about the Brooklyn Dodgers and she tells him about the promo nights for Cyclones games (and tactfully avoids talking about Ohtani of the LA Dodgers).
She and Wendy have a running joke about pointing at any red and gold object they see and saying "look, it's Iron Man" except one time Wendy actually does point out Iron Man and Yoshi doesn't believe her, that's just a dude in ugly sunglasses and he's not wearing red and gold.

Mizu from Blue Eye Samurai is exactly how I imagined Yoshi sounding
Oooh yes I loved Mizu's voice actor, as soon as I heard her, I could totally imagine Yoshi sounding like that! I didn't have a particular voice in mind when I first started gv/bj but DAMN does Maya Erskine sound perfect for it.

officially out of my star wars phase and back on my daredevil shit because they brought back charlie cox as matt murdock and his catholic guilt. i can't help it, the new show is is full of so much nyc that i'm right there living in it.
tangentially, yoshi would be such a menace in the mcu. she would get away with so much shit telling people "it's a sorcerery thing, go ask wong" and just shifting all the blame onto the guys at bleecker street anytime she's ever questioned.

I'm rewatching the netflix daredevil show and its spinoffs because it's been years since they came out... and lowkey I can't figure out if I was subconsciously inspired by some elements of daredevil & punisher, or if i genuinely forgot it happens in the show. Like, jigsaw/ben barnes in punisher got a rotator cuff injury as a child and it stopped him from playing baseball or going pro—yoshi was injured almost exactly the same way, and she can't pitch underhand to play softball even tho she'd go far with it. Also I forgot about the secret ninja cult that daredevil fights. That seems kinda similar to jjk stuff lol

Question: What is the greatest magic of all? Answer: Friendship, right? [B]: The greatest magic of all is not friendship, it's chronomancy, the ability to control and warp time. If friendship were the greatest magic, look, it's a pet peeve of mine (...)
