Whole-heartedly BEGGING writers to unlearn everything schools taught you about how long a paragraph is. If theres a new subject, INCLUDING ACTIONS, theres a new paragraph. A paragraph can be a single word too btw stop making things unreadable

thank you for being so emotional about tgcf, you make me feel a little less crazy. hua cheng is literally changing my life. and there are very few characters i say that about. there’s something about his persistence, his strength, the way he was reborn again and again to become the best version of himself (not objectively, cause i did love every version of him) that could protect his beloved—it gives me so much hope and energy. i know he’s fictional and not everyone in real life can become supreme ghost king-level powerful, but he makes me feel like i can be something else, like i can beat the odds and make my own path. and xie lian gives me that feeling sometimes too. more importantly, reading about hua cheng’s love for xie lian made me rethink so much about my own faith, the love i had for my own god and how it fell short so terribly. and i wanted to do better there too. so yeah. it’s crazy how this one fictional ghost king made me want to reset my life and work towards being a version of myself i’d at least be a little bit happy with (he’s on the cover of the vision board on my notion workspace 🤡)
book 8 is so precious to me. I haven't finished all the extras but I've completed the main story. the tears I shed at the sheer love... I've never truly experienced such pure feeling before. I know we all say Hulian invented love but they truly did. the little details in the art - the ring at the very end. seeing the word FIN beneath the title - tears are dripping from my eyes as I write this. this series means so much to me - I want to gush about it like it's my lover - gods above and ghosts below - this series means so much to me. I am so happy this TCGF was my first danmei. now I need the donghua to continue. I need to see them plastered everywhere. In ads, on TV, anywhere. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng/San Lang - they feel real to me - they live in my heart. I'm so fucking emotional over them.

maturity is when you stop begging for someone to stay, to love you, or to appreciate you.. you already know your worth. It's better to lose someone than to lose yourself.

Since MXTX said HuaLian live until the modern times, have some random headcanons:
Hua Cheng keeps being an interior decorating king so of course his and Xie Lian's home is tastefully decorated for every season and holiday. However, that doesn't stop Xie Lian from occasionally adding the fugliest item ever because he got emotionally attached to it in the store. "It was all by itself, San Lang, nobody wanted it... i know what that feels like better than anyone..." and now they're both sniffling holding an ugly styrofoam pumpkin in the middle of the fall decor isle of Ikea.
The stray animals food budget is off the charts but it's nobody's fault all strays are immediately drawn to Xie Lian and he has to feed them cause he "knows what it's like to be hungry". This does not just include cats and dogs but also rats, raccoons, several bird species and at least one coyote.
Speaking of budgets, the financial control authorities are lowkey on Hua Cheng's case because he is still stinking rich but nobody knows where the cash is coming from. They think Ghost City is the name of some shady mafia establishment and are trying to find dirt on Hua Cheng but there is literally nothing there and it eats the government alive.
Xie Lian occasionally dumpster dives in places where he knows they throw perfectly salvageable things. Hua Cheng cries every time it happens but he stands watch so the police doesn't arrest his husband for it.
In the same vein, Xie Lian insists on recycling literally everything. They have those different colored trash bins and everything, and every time Hua Cheng places an item in the wrong bin, Xie Lian gives him a disapproving look that has the ghost king crumble.
They have so many house plants. It's like a little jungle in their living room but the air is so crisp.
They keep several scrapbooks of paintings, pictures, letters etc from all the people they met to remember them even hundreds or thousands of years after those people have passed away. Even if they now have access to phones and other media for storage, they keep up the tradition of using scrapbooks and notebooks anyway.
Xie Lian is actually up to date with memes and internet slang but has embraced being a cringe Facebook grandpa and is now committed to the persona. Hua Cheng finds this hilarious (he runs a very well maintained beauty channel and a side channel on swords where Xie Lian features in every video and geeks out about their sword collection. They have a golden button and a very large following).
Hua Cheng has a 25 step skincare routine and only uses the fanciest brands of products for literally everything. Xie Lian still swears by 8 in 1 shampoo and somehow has clearer skin. Hua Cheng is both enamored and scandalized about it.
Hua Cheng is a very big fan of acryllics and lets Xie Lian pick the base color every time. Xie Lian takes this task very, very seriously and tries to coordinate it with any activities/events they have planned so Hua Cheng stays being stylish.
Hua Cheng has a portable Dyson Airwrap with him at all times because one time a kid said his hair looks like a wet dog.
Xie Lian is not allowed to get a job because every time he tried to along the decades he became a cautionary tale somehow.

The thing about Xie Lian and the bamboo hat is that he was the one to make the first step towards coming back to himself and trusting that people could be kind before he even had the Bamboo hat.
He gave humanity another chance by standing in the rain with a sword in his belly to see if someone would help him and he waited here for days.
Even at his worst, Xie Lian still tried and I want to cry about it.

More late night thoughts on actions, consequences, surrendering, and suffering:
We may know our actions have consequences
But that does not mean we always know what those consequences are
To really know those consequences is another form of control… of not surrendering to doing what you can with your current emotional and physical capacity that you have at that time (is there really any escaping from that?)
Suffering of some kind could be a consequence
Life is suffering BUT it does not need to be (a “both and” noble truth)
We always have the choice to be free from suffering
If we let go of the attachment to the consequences of our actions, if we know accountability is not tied to adding shame or things that keep us more attached
To know that accountability is change
And to keep recontextualizing and reconnecting with who we are when we are dealt with those consequences
There is always a path

i think one of my favourite things about xie lian (though there are several and impossible to rank) is that he actively cringes super hard at his younger self and the stuff he said and did. he laughs at the ridiculousness of having told hong hong'er to use him as his reason to live and pulls a face at his inexperience of the world and how he went about things, but ultimately, by the end of it all, he still stands his ground and sticks to those same core values even in the face of the one who has been haunting him so hard for the past eight hundred years trying to get him to change. xie lian literally screams at jun wu"i won't change!!! i'll never change!!!" because sure when he was seventeen and a fresh god he thought he could do it all, sure he got proven so wrong and was kicked to the ground hard enough it took him a while to get back up, but that that won't stop him from trying anyway. a hundred thousand people saved or just one, whatever it takes, he'll do it. i think that's such a meaningful message. when you're young you're stupid, but it doesn't always mean you were wrong too. i love him so much
