Mottisfont Spring Water + Dried Indigo Leaves
Day 1 of 2 as part of a micro artist in residence ‘The Observatory’ in association with SPUD Charity, working in partnership with Chapel Arts, Andover and Test Valley Arts Foundation.
Indigo Leaves harvested and dried from the region of SaPa. North Vietnam. The dried leaves are ground into a fine powder using a Mortar and Pestle. The powder is mixed with water collected from Mottisfont natural spring to create a drawing ink. The ink is applied using finger tips onto the surface of the traditional handmade Dó paper from Hue. Central Vietnam
The site's name ‘Mottisfont’ comes from a spring ("font") that is still producing water in the grounds. It was the font around which the local community held its
moots
or meetings.

 Perspective
Deliberate depictions of simple but ubiquitous and exaggerated stereotypes readily signal specific ethnic or cultural groups such as a large round circle, often with an inner concentric ring, to represent an aerial view of alternatively a Mexican sombrero, a cowboy hat, or a leaf hat worn by the Vietnamese whilst riding a bicycle.

CAS ( Chapel Arts Studio) Artist retreat at Monkton Wyld Court, Dorset.
A weekend away in the beautiful county of Dorset with members of CAS was an opportunity for artists to lead conversations and workshops.
The weekend was an opportunity to introduce a shared group drawing exercise.  To explore the idea of communal creativity.Re-examining and questioning personal boundaries from our mark making on to a floor size sheet of fabriano cotton paper. The scale of the paper invited artist to work with each other and re-examine the relationship between space and boundaries. Whilst attaching drawing implements to our limbs, encouraging extended and exaggerated movements. Resulting in 2 large group drawings created by individual artist traces, marks and gestures. Materials used were graphite, ink, charcoal, pencils, masking tape, marker pens, brushes and erasers.
The shared drawing was an extension to previous experience from a workshop about Drawing as Performance directed by Ram Samocha.

“Zero is silence. Zero is the beginning.”
These are the opening words of the manifesto drafted in 1963 by the ZERO artist : that exceptional moment between countdown and rocket launch, the “incommensurable zone in which the old state turns into the new”.

Draw to Perform Workshop – Drawing becomes Performance
DRAW TO PERFORM visits GOLDSMITHS, Day 2 – Workshop1 – Sun Sep 6, 2015, 10:00-13:00
Goldsmiths, University of London, Design Festival Department of Design, Stuart Hall Building
A workshop about Drawing Performance directed by Ram Samocha. Samocha is a multidisciplinary artist and the curator of Draw to Perform, an international symposium for Drawing Performance.
Drawing as live performance of mark making  , exploring the physical gestures and body movement that connects elements of line, movement, space and time. Focusing on the connection and combination of live action and drawing. The workshop allows participates to experiment with this practice and talk about possible options of process and presentation.
I chose graphite powder as my material to trace my actions. I was intrigued by its metallic properties and its quality to undefined the edges of the line, compare to a point from a pencil.

INTERVAL :

Chalk Pastel
Turner Sims
Southampton
2015
in association with International Woman Day and CAKE Southampton.
A collaboration of female creative minds have come together to organise events to celebrate International Women’s Day 2015 throughout the month of March.
CAKE Southampton curated exhibition in Turner Sims foyer started with INTERVAL a site- specific live drawing performance using chalk pastel to conduct a series of repetitive gestures derived from limitations of my outstretched arms'.
My movements are marked directly onto the wall of the foyer space at the Turner Sims. INTERVAL was developed over a period of two events allowing for visitors to observe the progress before or during the concert intervals. My use of materials is to facilitate and stimulate both physical and cultural associations, to raise questions about place and people, as well as exploring the relationship between drawing and performance. The result of each drawing is a conceptual score of efficacious techniques, imposed variables, and specified duration's or objectives.

Selvedge 2015/2016
Lino print designs on cold press watercolour paper for Inigo Scout luxury art blanket project . Exploring the process of Lino Printing, examining the direction of the line/gouge.
For inspiration I looked at the warp and weft of premium Japanese denim. I noticed how the reverse of the woven material held as much beauty as the face of the fabric. By using a Lino printing method on textured paper I realised that I could emulate the effect of the weave pattern .
