Does anyone know any good comics to start at? I want to get more into them and I would like so recommendations please. It doesn’t matter who it’s about, though I would prefer to read some Red Hood comics, since I find the character and his lore quite interesting.

You claim that you can’t see Sam in a position of leadership because he feels unbalanced and too serious, but if I’m not mistaken, several scenes with Sam in them have him as a serious character, putting in his two cents and making other characters actually think in dangerous situations. Sure, he has funny moments, as most characters do, but to sit there and say that it doesn’t suit his character is wrong. Is it that being serious doesn’t fit his character, or does him being a serious main character not fit your perception of him? People can dislike his character all they want, I can’t tell people what to like and dislike. But to say that CA: BNW failed at making the characters likable is weird, because that’s what TFaTWS was for. To set up characters that would be relevant in Sam’s journey as Captain America. The movie is a continuation of his work as Captain America and how he is still being compared to Steve and monitored quite heavily.
Another thing, race does play a huge role in a lot of media. How people perceive characters and their actions, how fans justify why they don’t like certain characters or actors; it has hints of underlying racism. People discredit Sam as Captain America, calling it woke or that John or Bucky should’ve kept/gotten the shield, for what reason? It could be because they want it to be comic accurate, which makes sense in Bucky’s case, but what about John’s case? We saw what happened when he had that type of power. He wasn’t a good fit for the role of Captain America. He didn’t have the values that Captain America is supposed to uphold.
You can say I’m offended if you like, but you can’t speak on the topic of racism and anti-blackness if you haven’t seen it for years and years. Multiple tropes that play into the anti-black propaganda, such as the disposable black girlfriend, the stereotypical black friend(s), the pimp/the slut trope. There’s more but I can’t think of them right now. Giving the topic of alcohol to the Russian characters is very stereotypical. But again, I can’t speak on it as I’m not Russian, anything I say can be ignored in regards to that topic.
I guess I'm gonna get some hate for this.
But it's NOT RACISM to dislike Sam Wilson. Or any other character.
It's NOT RACISM to think he shouldn't have been Captain America.
No one should have taken that role. In the comics, it was Bucky who got the shield at first. And you know what? He got beat up big time every other chapter. And every other character had to drop everything and run to save his ass. And he almost died in the nearest crossover with slightly stronger enemies. Why? Because Bucky in the comics is not a super soldier. And Walker wasn't much better in TFATWS. The level of threats Captain America faces aren't meant for the average person. No matter how trained. At least not to fight them openly hand to hand. Like the original Captain America would.
If the MCU were a little more realistic, we'd have literally every minor villain on Sam's tail trying to kill him so they could be the one who killed Captain America. While it's easier to do.
It's not even a question of whether he's morally worthy. Of course, he is. It just doesn't do him any favors.
I loved Sam as a supporting character. He was easy-going and fun. He can't be that way in a leadership position when he's in charge of the rest of the group. And seriousness doesn't suit him. It makes him less entertaining. I'm not saying Sam should be a chronically secondary character. I'm saying that in order to be his fun self, this character needs someone who is an equal. Not these guys that BNW gave him. This New Falcon guy is nice but he is not Sam's equal. He is a student looking up to him. And that girl... That was really, really bad. She was the most faceless, forgettable Marvel character I've seen in years. What even was her name?! Couldn't they at least have Sharon for this position? If they wanted a badass female character?
I checked the CABNW tag. And you know what?
A big part of it is that 5-minute scene with Bucky's cameo. Because what? Because these characters are equals and they work well together. There were also only like a couple gifs of this New Falcon guy. And literally nothing about the girl. Like she wasn't there at all. Also, almost nothing about the villains.
What does that mean? It means that unfortunately CABNW completely failed at creating a team and making the characters likable. It could have been so much better if we could have had someone Sam could interact with more interestingly instead of that girl. Someone equal.
And I have to say I really liked the plot and the ideas in the movie. But the character interactions were disastrously weak and it got in the way of exploring Sam's issues. So, to the casual viewer, Sam looks like a guy who is right and has almost no problems.
And this is the second time that Sam's character has suffered from the script's inability to explain itself. The previous one was in TFATWS with the "don't call her a terrorist" thing. I wrote a whole page about why Sam was right and Carly wasn't just a terrorist. https://www.tumblr.com/halfnekoslair/783726082544254976/tfatws-thoughts?source=share
But the question isn't what's true. Or who's right. The question is what someone who's just watching the show and not trying to think sees. And that person sees a moralizing character without seeing the reason. And because the script can't explain why that character is right in an obvious way... It's not nice. It doesn't serve the character.
So poor Sam has two projects where the script has failed him. In the first, the script failed to explain well why he was right and in the second, the script failed to give him someone to air his problems with or have the funny conversations that made Sam likable in the first place.
This is what led to the current situation. People hate Sam on account of the post credits scene. Because he looks like this moralizing guy who is right because he is right. Because of bad non-obvious writing. Not because of the color of his skin.
Now that I've spent some time thinking about it, I can say that Sam is doing the right thing to stop people like Valentina from using the Avengers name. That Val is doing to the group the same thing that happened to Walker in TFATWS and it will not end well. TBH, I don't even see Bucky being opposed to Sam in this (he just hates the naming thing in general and is frustrated that it's become a problem).
But it wasn't like that the first time I watched it. Back then I immediately texted my friend "OMG they're making Sam look bad! They're ruining his character!" and she was also really upset because she liked him and she didn't watch TFATWS or CABNW.
Why? Because of the emotions. Thunderbolts did a great job of playing on the audience's emotions. They didn't have the strongest plot. And the pacing was weird. And not all the characters got enough attention. But those who did worked perfectly. Watching the movie, it was easy to understand why this title of Avengers is important for the characters. This is recognition of them as heroes. This is their ticket from the dark side where they suffered. And it seemed cruel that someone would want to take that away from them. It made me angry at that person. On an emotional level. Without seeing the big picture and trying to figure out who is right.
I understand both sides of the argument. Both those who think Sam's right and those who criticize him. But the racism argument irritates me the most. It's not racism to dislike someone or think they're wrong. Giving the topic of alcohol to both characters of Russian descent is racism. Or at least disrespectful stereotypes. And everything I can say against Sam is based on a shitty script of his latest projects and not his origin. The race argument just devalues everything. It's like saying "it doesn't matter what you say, you're the bad guy."
Sorry if I offended anyone.

"When the house falls, the voice remains" — A message from Gaza, written by Abdelmajid ✍️
In a time where news is just numbers, and images pass in seconds, there are faces that remain. I am one of them.
My name is Abdelmajid. I don't carry an extraordinary story — I share what has sadly become ordinary in Gaza: Waking up to find no roof above me 🏚️, calling out to my mother and hearing no reply 💔, surviving a certain death… only to face the daily battle to live.
We used to believe war was a moment that would pass. But we’ve learned it may begin… and never end. It doesn’t just take homes — it takes childhood, voices, the faces we love.
Since that day, I no longer have a little world called my room. No key. No quiet corner. What remains? Fragments of memory… and a flicker of hope I carry every time my niece looks at me and asks, "Why did this happen to us?" 👧
I’m not writing for pity, nor for passing sadness. I write because we need a voice — someone to carry our story back into the rhythm of this loud world 🌍
Tumblr media
You may not be able to end the war, but you can ease its cruelty on those who survived. You can extend a hand to someone trying to rebuild from rubble 🤝
Whether you donate, share, or simply read these words to the end — your action may go unseen by cameras, but it makes a real difference ✨
For authenticity, Abdelmajid is verified and listed as #537 on the GazaVetters trusted vetting list. ✅
From my heart, and from the heart of Gaza: Thank you for still seeing the human behind the headlines 🕊️

Thunderbolts Spoilers Ahead
Follow up on my post I made more than a week ago, a lot of racist marvel fans are coming out of the woodworks. So, I’m just gonna say this. Why is it that, and stay with me here, people are kinda of jumping on this Sam Wilson hate train? I thought y’all were Team Cap, but since it’s not Steve, suddenly, Sam is in the wrong? How’s that work?
It all stems from racism, but y’all aren’t ready to hear that nor are you ready to actually listen. I will, once again, reiterate that here two movies can be seems as two sides of the same coin in the sense of empathy and compassion. In Captain America: Brace New World, the movie plays with that fact that Sam has a tendency to take down his opponents, rather than just going in guns blazing, which is also seen in TFaTWS with Karli. And when that doesn’t work, then he will fight, but it has a tendency to work when needed. The same thing happened in Thunderbolts; the team tried to fight sentry, and when that didn’t work, they tried empathizing with him instead. It’s the exact same plot device. No way around it. But for some reason, people tend to flock towards Thunderbolts more, and maybe it has something to do with how some people have started infantilizing Bob. Just something I’ve noticed.
I guess all this to say, the next year is going to be very rough next year for POC marvel fans, especially with how the Iron Heart trailer was perceived, but it seems, once again, that these projects have been put on the back burner for Marvel Studios and Disney. Which is really unfortunate, because the amount of promotional work that was put towards Eternals, which I’m pretty sure is not getting a sequel or a series, rather than something fans could get behind.
Just a little tidbit while I’m at work. Nothing serious, and y’all don’t even have to take me seriously, but ya know… movies.

Okay, I’m going to say something and don’t rally against me, but I just finished Thunderbolts. Scroll past cause I’m going to spoil some of it.
Now, it wasn’t a bad movie, far from it. But the ending is quite an interesting turn of events, especially since they “own” Valentina now, but even then, they would technically have to do what she says. Or if not her, then the US government would have to give them missions and information. And while a redemption for some of the characters is an interesting choice, considering basically all of them are criminals. However, I have one small complaint. Just a small one. Why was that how they defeat the void? I understand the underlying message in the movie, but at the same time, isn’t this what happened in Brave New World? Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but they essentially have the same ending. And isn’t that funny?
All in all, I gave this a 7.5/10. Very Yelena driven, which is an amazing decision on the directors part, but at the same time, what was with the Captain America slander at the end? There wasn’t any need to include him in that type of light, but because they did, I’ll just say this. He has a right to be upset. I’m not sure what way Bucky could’ve spun the events back to him, but choosing to stay under Valentina as the New Avengers is a wild choice for basically every character there; especially for Bucky. And the fact that it’s been 14 months of back and forth, just give up at this point. But I do hope they resolve it in the Fantastic Four or Doomsday.
