Image: The President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, spoke at the Stanford Global Development and Poverty Initiative last week. This week’s news story is a positive one about the President of the World Bank and his optimism for the eradication of extreme poverty and improving the lives of children! One of the major things he was hopeful about was the attainment of education for all children, including girls and the impoverished everywhere, by 2030. Photo: St. Catherine's Children's Home | Kibera, Kenya "...What if there was both food on the table, and also backpacks lined up by the door? What if caregivers and the children themselves didn’t have to worry every month if their ‘sponsor’ was going to send enough money to help pay for their school?" Check out our latest blog post announcing our new project: 4 Greenhouses at St. Catherine's Children's Home. Help us provide a sustainable solution to nourishing bodies and minds - we even have a matching donor, so your support today will have double the impact! A #tbt to the St. Catherine’s home in Kenya and our successful Clean Water Access project. You can see them working the filter, which provided clean drinking water to the children at the home! We’re so excited to be partnering with them again with a greenhouse that will be targeting the nutrition and education of the kids! We will have a matching donor, who will match all donations up to $10,000! Let’s make this happen for #everychild!

These are some of the wonderful kids at the Watoto Wema home in Kenya, enjoying a day of school! Our greenhouse generates income that goes towards the education, as well as helps supplement their nutrition. As we never want a child to have to choose between food or school, we are happy to announce a similar project at the St. Catherine’s School in Kenya! Let’s #endhunger and give #education for #everychild!

This is a great read about organizations in Cambodia that are doing great work for children there: goo.gl/TxNNTV. From addressing the immediate needs of homeless children to dealing with child sex trafficking, these 7 organizations are showing us all how much good there is being done around the world!

“Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.” This #MotivationalMonday #quote encaptures the mission of Kitechild: to give children the little boost they sometimes need, so that they can soar! Children truly are the future and we owe it to everyone to make sure the future is as bright as possible!

The Yallah Peace Project in Lebanon is being run by @WarChildHolland and is working to create peace by connecting Syrian and Lebanese children. These remarkable kids are encouraged to become leaders of peace and showing the world the possibility of a future without violence. Please read this inspiring story from @HuffingtonPost and see the compassion and hope that these children are giving to all of us: http://goo.gl/r2ndlv

"A child without education is like a bird without wings." - Tibetan Proverb. We are so excited to announce 2 super exciting events this week: we gave our website a major makeover and are re-launching, and to accompany that launch, the announcement of a brand new project in Kenya, targeting educational access and opportunities for the older children at St. Catherine's Children's Home. Say hello to our friends at the Watoto Wema Home, which is located in the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. Since partnering with them in 2012, we have successfully launched a greenhouse, a chicken farm and a clean water project, all of which have addressed the most pressing needs of the 57 children living at the home, including food security, access to higher education, and improved health. We have high hopes for the future!

This mustache is amazing and deserves some respect... A #tbt from our trip to India this past summer. This photo was taken by our photographer at the Hotel Benz Park in Chennai, India. During that trip, we were able to see the beauty of India, its culture, and its people, as well as visit our partner homes to oversee several projects coming up!

Here are the kids at the Fiwagoh Home in front of the first of six Kitechild  greenhouses. This home in Nakuru, Kenya harvested 200kg of vegetables during August and September! They harvested tomatoes this month, which were sold to wholesale partners in the local market. The profits from vegetables are funding  the hiring of additional caretakers for the kids, as well as a social worker to reintegrate children. AND, the produce from our six greenhouses helps to lower the dry food costs of this home by over 50% annually. We can’t wait to keep seeing this project grow!

Don’t be thrown by the dramatic title: “How to Survive as an Aid Worker Without Losing Your Soul.” This post from @guardian is really great read for anyone working as an aid worker and for those outside of the NGO sector to gain insight into the limitations and challenges that come with the territory of this rewarding and amazing work. “Every great dream begins with a dreamer.” -Harriet Tubman
Our #MotivationalMonday quote this week comes from the inspiring Harriet Tubman, who fully embodies the meaning of following a dream. Although she was born into slavery, she dreamed of a better future, and saved the lives of so many people, fought for human rights, and showed just how much good a single person can do for others. Let’s remember her legacy and dare to dream big this week!

These three girls are some of the 37 children that live at the Zia Mission Home in Hyderabad, India. The Zia Home was one of the four partner homes that we visited over the summer. During that trip, we were able to meet with the homes to learn how to better serve the needs of the children, as well as oversaw a solar panel project and a chicken farm profit-generating project. We also got to see the individual kids, which inspired us to keep working hard for Change, Not Charity!
