Another day of doing next to nothing in the lab! I guess this is just the life of an intern. We did an assay, and I (begged to) do another short/easy experiment. I ate vegan nuggets twice and the lunch lady told me I looked like I needed a hug (and gave me one).

Showed up to the lab and got next to nothing done in 6 hours (LMAO). We couldn't figure out how to work the machine, so I ended up just doing a simple experiment later on in the day. It's also so hot!! I have always thought that midwesterns just can't handle heat (because how are they complaining that its 79F??), but these people literally do not have AC in their buildings + and the UV index is 91.

I am feeling a bit better today. I went to the store to get essentials; now I'm finishing up lab work + doing laundry. I'm ok, I'll be ok.

hello yall! I have not been feeling good mentally these past couple of days. I'm surprised how soon I got homesick and lonely; it makes me realize how much my family means to me. I'm going to try my best to make the most of the coming month, but it's difficult to focus when I feel like this.

Took yet another walk around the lake and the water was shimmering! Wish I had a better camera. I have also been taking some more notes about neurotransmitters. The brain is so interesting I want to know all about it!

Kind of a boring day! I woke early and worked on analyzing some data. Went to class (nothing happened/we were let out early). I picked up a package my mom sent me (4 1/2 lbs of yorks ??? along with chips and salsa hehe). I went to the lab for a few hours. I'm about to eat dinner, and I don't know if I'll go on a short walk or continue analyzing more data.

I went to the farmer's market yesterday. They were selling a lot of plants, and some vegetables (radish, tomatoes). I also stopped by the library because it was close by. I like the library on campus better because it has more interesting books + it's bigger.

I haven't been writing much because not much has happened! I spend a few hours a day in the lab, and then write, analyze data, and walk around town for the rest of the day. I'm super tired most of the time, and I'm living off of tofu and monsters. Besides that, things are alright! It's gotten a bit boring, to be honest. There's not much to do, but I'm hoping it will pick up soon <3

went to the stationary store today, got this notebook (my new journal btw) and saw these cool Kodak printer cameras - wish I could get one

studying isn't always aesthetic, and that is totally ok.

not every study session is accompanied by a cool bright matcha and and a perfect messy bun. not all of your notes will be written in beautiful looped cursive and perfectly highlighted.

sometimes the only way you can study is in your pyjamas, sometimes the only place you are sitting down long enough is the bus, sometimes your notecards are tatty and ripped.

you don't always have to be perfectly aesthetic, let go of your performative notes, write notes that help you.

wear things that are comfy and easy to concentrate in.

be gentle with yourself, learn what works for you and stick to it.

I went to the festival (part 2, the next day). There was a lot more to do than on the first day, and there were also a lot more people. There were multiple vendors, a rubber duck race, a hot dog eating contest, and more. It felt like the 'proper' American experience :)

I've been missing the border so much recently. It's so jarring how different it is over here. The food is so bland it's making me sad (which I didn't know I would feel so empty without decent food... but that's a conversation for another day). The people are overly polite and quiet. For the past few years, I've been wanting to get away from the border due to a few different reasons, but I think I'm doomed to stay. I think I might be able to get away with being in Cali (?) by the border, but there's no way I'd survive anywhere else.
