I hate that thing some people do where it's like. "I left my wallet on the table to see if you'd say anything" or "I wanted to see if you'd wash the car if I stopped doing it"
Cause like
I dont know about anyone else
But I am perpetually hovering three inches above the strong subconscious belief that everyone knows what they're doing at all times except me, so if you change your normal patterns and I notice, then I will assume it is an intentional choice with a thought-out plan behind it and I will avoid interfering
And if I don't notice, because I won't, because why would I, because not much bothers me and if you don't say anything to indicate you are bothered then how would I KNOW

Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

You know what would be neat? Choosing Mentors for apprentices getting turned into a political game.
A Mentor will almost always fundamentally shape an Apprentices world view and more likely then not, create a bond between them. Every apprentice is a new potential ally and a cat on your side for a bid for the deputyship.
Connections aren't only between families and bloodlines (Maybe those will even be deprioritized by the clan structure) but between who mentored who.
Maybe warriors are almost expected to support their former mentors when it comes to politics.
Warriors will want to be assigned kits that are deemed to have talent, not only for the credit and the opportunity to watch them grow, but because if they do end up being great warriors, they can almost certainly count on their support in future attempts to climb rank.
Basically, you know what would make the Clans better, Cronyism

i’m so appreciative to suzanne for reframing the rebellion from the original trilogy as a “they saw their moment and took it” type situation and showing us that they’ve been trying, over and over, with so many failed attempts, to break the arena and incite a rebellion for decades. in this current political climate never giving up hope is so essential. haymitch wasn’t the first nor the last, and they kept going even when it seemed completely futile, and that’s what counts, and what ultimately saves them all.
#the hunger games#HOPE as what president snow said in the original trilogy#is the thing that keeps people going#and in order to control them#you must kill and destroy it#but we also learn#that so long as we breathe#so long as there is injustice in this world#so long as these are people who CARE#AND THERE ALWAYS IS. THERE ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!!!#it's just going to keep being lit and relit and passed down to the next generations#i love the hunger games so so much
