[Black + White: Day 42]: Toast to a good year Kinda unexpected, but my design for the T-shirt competition was selected by the Traveler company:) https://www.facebook.com/traveler1990/ When I got the mail a few days before the announcement, I was in the middle of having a migraine, so things sounded unreal for me. But now receiving a few more e-mails about the minor adjustments, it becomes more of a reality. Not able to show the design just yet, as it shall be a printed product on a T-shirt that will come out in Sept-Oct this year. I am quite excited actually. Well, it’s the first-time things I illustrate become something "in real life". (hmm apart from the wall art and the palliative care art that is now part of a charity expo....nothing as being part of a "product"). [Black + White: Day 40]: Happy belated cactus new year! ------- May this year be a great year for everyone. Can be a little painful at times, like putting hands on a cactus and prick yourself, but succulent being a succulent, it thrive under harsh condition and flowers when time comes😊 ------- It has been a little hard to update new work when trying to meet deadlines at the same time. And finally, now having this tiny break where I can scan up a few works from the sketch book and add in the colours. The last day of 2020 was quite cold, I am usually ok with the cold weather, but when it gets colder, my nose gets a little itchy too. So there I was, sneezing away while I shared screen with my bestie from primary school during video chat so we could watch the countdown streaming on the net while we chat. She couldn’t stop laughing coz I was always sneezy when important moments came. [Black + White: Day 39]: Prepare to say goodbye to 2020 -------- 2020 had been a year. Quite a lot of ups and downs (election...COVID...HK...list goes on and on). Took a while to finally settle with a short-term goal and really sit down to work on it. Sorting old photos into albums, reading, learning new things, and to walk hand in hand with someone who is willing to journey with me. Caught up with old friends and write letters and have long chats. I really appreciate that some friends keep the same e-mail address. Come to think, if it were the old days, the moment you move to a new house (or they moving to a new place), it could also mean that you lost touch with an old friend as well. Second half of the year was much more productive. I think I still must thank Andres for this. I still think that conversation we had definitely got the wheels turning again. While I was sorting my old illustrations from Otago Uni and EGGS, it somehow pieced me back. I had always loved illustration and had been doing some from time to time, or when ever I had a moment to spare after work and school. Part of me wanna to pursue this dream but it was never strong enough to push it further. I guess sometimes being raised under different cultures makes me unique, but at the same time old traditional values holds me back. Which ever that is, I have decided to sprint in full speed and just give it a go. May 2021 be a great year and may there are more love and peace in this world. Rock on. [Black + White: Day 38]: Shimuraken/志村けん --------- 3 more days before 2020 ends. I thought of a few actors that I will miss a lot. Shimuraken is one. I cried that day when he passed away early this year. He brought a lot of joy to us when we were kids (and now as well). I mean his signature pose is something that everyone would try to imitate. [Black + White: Day 37]: Thank you/ありがとう ------------ I was wondering which drawing I should put up on such a festive day...and then I thought of this one. Thank you. Sometimes it is not easy to express your thanks for people you really care about, or other occasions, you might have someone you give you a helping hand when you are in need. But if you ever have a chance to say your thanks, or express your appreciation, don't delay it, because you may just miss this opportunity forever. When I did my internship at the hospital wards, these thoughts grew stronger. Life can be fragile sometimes, and people can stop talking to one another due to many reasons (some can be very minor, but no one wanted to take the initiation to resolve the problem). I was glad that I took the initiation last week by inviting my uncles and parents over for X’mas lunch, where my hubby and I prep meals for them. Looking at the photos I took, they all aged a lot as we grow up, but it was nice to see them chatting together (which they had not been doing so for quite some time after our grand parents left us 10 years back). We had a major earthquake 25 years back at my hometown and I had always appreciated that if it wasn’t for my big uncle climbing into the house with a few of his friends, carrying my parents and grandparents out, we would have been orphans at a much earlier age. I am glad I did put a few things together. The reality which a medical professional face is tuff here. We talk about what needs to be done but due to many restraints we could never be perfect.
