Note
I'm really interested in roleplaying as Satsuki, since she's probably the best anime character of the past years. Is it safe to jump in...?
Of course! It's always safe. The roleplayers in this community are very nice, polite, and accepting!

Okay, so I’ve seen quite a few posts of people saying “OW THE EDGE” or that Ryuko is unlikeable and unsympathetic now, because of her little rant at the end of this latest episode.
Let me now tell you why that’s bullshit.
Put yourself in Ryuko’s figurative shoes right now:
- You have been out cold, unable to do anything, for a month.
-While you were incapacitated, your best friend was trapped inside the stomach of some freaky, Mass-Production-Eva tuxedo thing.
-Right before you went cold, you learned three important pieces of information:
1. Your archrival is your sister.
2. You are the daughter of the most despicable living creature on the planet, who abandoned you when you were but a wee infant.
3. Like said despicable living creature, half of your DNA is identical to that of the alien beings bent on enslaving humankind.
All of a sudden, Ryuko doesn’t seem quite so unreasonable in her anger, huh?
AND ANOTHER THING
Most of these posts focus on Ryuko rejecting Senketsu, and convienently leave out what Ryuko says immediatly after.
She calls Senketsu a monster, sure, but SHE CALLS HERSELF A MONSTER TOO!
Because she’s part Life Fiber. And you know who else is part life fiber?
This bitch right here.
There’s the rub. Ryuko’s not angry, she’s scared. She’s scared of what she might become, and what a further partnership with Senketsu might lead to.
When people are unsure or frightened, they often lash out at people around them.
And that’s what Ryuko’s doing right now.
So instead of loathing or mocking a character for having a natural emotional reaction to their situation, how about trying to sympathize with them?

On Sexual Abuse And Great Justice
I recall the first time that we saw Ragyo Kiryuin touch Satsuki. I was confused, and my reaction was basically:
"Oooh, they’re going to bathe together! Wait…what is…what…okay, she’s not scrubbing her, is she?"
I appreciated the subtlety though. However, we all know Ragyo is anything but subtle. As we’ve drawn nearer to the climax of Kill la Kill, the abuse we see Ragyo inflicting on Satsuki becomes more prominent. In episode 19, we get full frontal sexual abuse. There is no subtlety. Without becoming an extreme ecchi, or even complete hentai, Kill la Kill showed us exactly what this relationship is like. Ragyo mocked her rebellious daughter, spanked her, and attempted to dominate her in the way that she has throughout the series. From what we can tell, this was going on long before the events of the series as well.
It’s hard to watch. For some people, it’s triggering. Understandably so.
But does this have a place in storytelling, or more specifically, telling the story of Kill la Kill?
To answer this question, we’ll look at one of the primary themes of the series, tyranny and oppression. We see throughout the story that clothing represents the totalitarian oppression that humanity has been subjected to. Though on the surface this just appears like a good excuse for fanservice, the symbolism is actually quite clever.
The rebel group Nudist Beach preaches that shedding their clothing is the equivalent of shedding the chains of oppression. It is when Ryuko becomes comfortable being ‘naked’ while wearing Senketsu that her power truly is unlocked.
So how does this relate to Ragyo and Satsuki?
Sexual abuse is quite often more about having power and control over another human being, rather than receiving sexual gratification. There is no such thing as a coincidence, particularly in telling a coherent story such as Kill la Kill. Satsuki, who has shed her clothing, is still oppressed. Despite her rebellion, despite understanding the truth behind Revocs, Satsuki’s oppression under Ragyo runs deeper.
I think this abusive relationship quite blatantly shows that tyrants come in many forms. Some get to stand on podiums and preach hate, while bringing countries to their knees. Then there are those like Ragyo Kiryuin, an egotistical sociopath who thrives on not only controlling the masses through manipulation, but her own daughter through disgusting means.
Thankfully, Satsuki is nobody’s victim. She has an indomitable spirit, and is incredibly strong. While some may say that the sexual abuse angle is just a way of getting cheap heat on Ragyo, I think this layer of meaning, and the message in Kill la Kill is worthwhile. We’ve seen all sorts of forms of totalitarianism throughout the series, particularly the diabolical sort with Ragyo, and the “Greater Good” sort with Satsuki. The personal take on it between these two is a tough pill to swallow, but it’s setting Satsuki up to overcome her mother in what will probably be one of the most satisfying triumphs over evil I’ve seen in quite some time.
Tumblr may very well explode if/when Satsuki gets her justice against Ragyo, and I am eager to see it happen.

I want to make a Matoi Ryuko RP blog, but there are already quite a few, and I'm not sure if I should or not... I don't really think I'd RP any other characters very well, and there are already plenty of spectacular Ryuko blogs... What do you think?
Honestly, everyone’s muses are different, because everyone’s interpretations of a character are different! In no way are any muses or portrayals of a character better than another because all muses are unique in their own ways! If you feel that Ryuko is the best fit for you, I’d say go for it! The Kill la Kill RP community is very accepting and they help all new rpers get through the awkward beginning stages! Don’t ever be discouraged about roleplaying a character just because you think someone else plays them better- that’s never the case!
