Is it me or Paul and Ian wore kajal/ kohl at the armory scene ? It wasn't that obvious on Ian though.However, it totally made Paul's eyes look even more pretty.To quote Lily "You always had such pretty eyes". 😻

You mean the scene in 7x22? Maybe I swear when I was watching S2 it looked like Alaric was wearing some. Ian and Paul both having such pretty eyes and I honestly felt like S7 was Paul's hottest season like he just looked so good! I always felt he was too skinny in the earlier seasons.

I wish they had at least given some explanation as to why Caroline didn't visit her mom's grave and thought of Mystic Falls to be so off limits when Stefan ,a marked vampire, was able to.Did Stefan try to find out if anything happened to her after Caroline didn't show up? They conveniently forgot that plot once the penny murder case was solved and everyone went back to Mystic Falls pretending like there was never any ban on vampires and didn't give two shits about stupid Matt's stupid rules.It was the first episode that candice filmed upon her return from her maternity leave (she mentioned it on her podcast)so instead of wasting all of her screentime on those happy little family BS, they could have have done a flashback or something especially since they did a couple of scenes earlier in the season where she talked about how she would never move on from her mom's death and always miss her.

TBH Anon I think Julie just added whatever she could to clean up the mess that Dries had created. She wanted to make it absolutely clear that Stefan was still deeply in love with Caroline during those three years and she wanted to add a scene that showed even after she ignored all his letters he still tried to meet her in person. Like I don't think it makes sense that Caroline wouldn't read at least one of the letters to find out if Stefan was okay, she was super concerned about Bonnie even in Mommy!mode so I just try not to think about it.

I mentioned this in my recap but it felt like the writers shot themselves in the foot with having Caroline hate Stefan established in the 7x02 because they couldn't build up to that without making it look like Stefan completely abandoned her. Just what a mess, I will never get over what an unprofessional hag Dries is and I also side-eye Julie for not stepping in sooner and trusting her. I think Matt's stupid ban was lifted after the Penny thing since that was his fault, I could also surmise that Caroline talked to him and she was like "remember when you put my life in danger to get back at Stefan, well we're both moving back to Mystic Falls as your apology."

Happy rewatching on season 8! I can’t believe we only got 1 seggs scene 🥹 lol is it bad I want steroline to have more happy moments in season 8? I still don’t understand why season 8 only got 16 eps T.T

The beginning of season 8 was such a magical time Anon we really needed that after the disaster that was S7. I was okay with only getting one sexy scene because it seemed like the show had stopped having a lot of them after the DE one in S4 (I bet they got in trouble for thrusting). I like that the first scene we saw of them was having sex in Stefan's bed so happy and I love the way the light shines through with the hair stroking scene. I think the season only had 16 episodes because it was a final season Julie had to negotiate a bit with the CW, I do think the season suffered for it too. They seemed to rush stuff towards the end trying to fit everything in, then of course they switched the death and made a lot of the finale feel random (but I'll bitch about that when I do my recap).

My only complaint about Steroline in S8 is I wanted more happy moments, like I love ALL their scenes between 8x01-8x07 but I would have loved a few more. They were just so domestic and married but I would have liked one more morning bed scene. I wouldn't have even minded the angst with human Stefan later in the season if he had just lived! Forever annoyed we went through that whole plot for no goddamn reason, if Stefan had been the planned death the whole time he would have just stayed a vampire and sacrificed himself that way.

Thank you Anon! I've always had a close attention to details and have to use it for work a lot so I put it to good use here. I didn't put that together until my rewatch but because I had the older seasons fresher in my mind this time it reminded me of when he did that with Elena in 3x20. He was trying to get her to pick him over Damon and Elena was upset about Alaric dying and was like "I don't have anyone" and he was like "you have me" and it worked! So him being like "I knew it would be a hard day for Caroline and I wanted to be there for her" even though she returned all his letters it felt like he knew if he could see her he thought he had a chance, especially because she would have been in a more vulnerable state. I mean he stayed there all day and night waiting for her to show.

I think Forewood should have had a respectable ending and not what was done to them in s5.I hated it.And you were right.They could have killed tyler if they wanted to in s6.What was even the point of bringing him back like that if they would kill him off?He wasn't even involved with MF gang anymore.Let him live! Trevino is so sweet.When he was asked if he would change anything about Tyler's story he said if he could he would give Caroline and Tyler a Happy Ending.

Yeah what happened to Tyler is rough, and I felt it even more in my rewatch because I really enjoyed Tyler's journey because he was the only one who wouldn't blindly follow the Salvatores. As much as I like Forwood and I really really got a buzz for them in my rewatch the break-up in 5x05 was realistic because I see both sides. Caroline is looking at is as "they found a way" to be together because Klaus told her he'd leave Tyler alone, and that's not enough for Tyler. I mean Klaus killed his Mom, ruined his life and now he's supposed to only get part of that life back because Klaus said he could? No way. And I think that's where you saw how they were going to drift apart eventually because they had two different mentalities. The KC sex was used to just completely demolish it and and I think any understanding that could have come about between them was ended with that.

In the very beginning of S7 I thought it was possible that Tyler was Caroline's fiancé in the FF because I would have finally got a Sterowood triangle and Caroline would have had an actual fiancé who we knew she loved. The Stefan and Tyler phone call kind of dashed those hopes though since he was like "no I don't want to get involved in your drama with her". Trevino deserved so much better, I think he knew the writers were doing him dirty in S6 so that's why he didn't sign on for more and then in S7 they kept having scenes or dialogue that Damon was going to kill Tyler and it's like it was written on the wall. It sucks too because like you said he had finally gotten away from the MFG and seemed to be doing well working for the Armory. If Tyler lived they could have maybe hinted that him and Caroline could rekindle their romance in the future in the finale but I think just like what happened to KC once Caroline married Stefan and they got that tragic ending with the "I love you forevers" the writers didn't feel right giving her another endgame romance.

Thought on 7x13-7x22 I MADE IT! Whew! Again best way to describe this was weird, even moreso than the beginning of this season I felt like I was watching a completely different show but in a much better way. Once the Armory was introduced it felt almost like watching Supernatural (mostly because of the constant phone calls and driving around) with more characters. I'd say it's similar to the second half of S4 and I really enjoyed Stefan's arc, thought he went through a great transition of learning to let Damon go and also learning to fight for the things he wants. Rayna was a solid villain(?) and the end was a good cliffhanger. The best was definitely the end where Baroline just dragged Defan for their stupid ass decisions and they both were like "Wait you mean we have to actually work for forgiveness? News to me" a very special time for me. All my crazy thoughts below!

I didn’t mind revenge-fueled crazy Stefan earlier in the season because that’s just kinda who he is and I accept that. However I did miss me some worried sad puppy Stefan doing everything he can to keep Caroline alive and he is on fire this episode!

“Caroline, I’m not gonna let anything happen to you” THEY REALLY DID THAT!

The symbolism of the “mind date” Stefan gives Caroline being the greenhouse on the Salvatore plot is so great! Because she’s his home and he’s hers. This is such a sweet and tender scene and Stefan is just wonderful for being the first person to say Caroline never asked for this and he just wanted to give her comfort while she's had to endure all of this crazy delivery. This date felt so much more them than the one in 7x11 and I think that was the point.

He didn’t want to leave her dammit!

The saddest goodbye on the phone “I promise I will come back for you” and he did. And I love how Valerie and Katherine said that to him but he only said it to Caroline.

Valerie’s got a point! She’s been doing a lot to help the MFG and yeah it’s because she’s hopelessly in love with Stefan but she was willing to die in order to deliver Caroline’s babies.

Klaus saving Stefan was SUCH a good scene! And I feel like that’s the first time Klaus did something genuinely for Caroline. Like him “giving up revenge” on Katherine and Tyler was not noble lol, he’s the one who killed their families and ruined their lives. But saving Stefan was because Caroline was worried about him. I mean trust me I love me some Klefan but it is more important for Caroline's life/status to have them both wrapped around her finger.

Damon loves Bonnie so much, when he tells her she's a terrible friend because she keeps putting herself in danger for him :(

The Klefan car scene is great but I’m laughing at Klaus’ logic of Elijah keeps saving me too, his life sucks! You should give up everything that makes you happy rather than Damon or I not being a fucking albatross for all eternity!

The final ever Klefan scene was a great one, really wish I could have gotten more of the Klefaroline triangle. I'm also happy that Stefan wasn't so comfortable with Klaus possibly being in love with Caroline like he was with Damon and Elena too.

Totally forgot Rayna helped Matt and Penny take out some vamps in Mystic Falls basically, that’s why he seemed to know her in the future.

Making Rayna a Phoenix was a nice touch.

Why does Enzo seem to know everything and yet nothing at the same time? The Bamenzo stuff really is great and I love how much they are diving into Bonnie’s moral compass changing as she’s grown closer to Damon. But not in the annoying way they did it with Elena, this is about how everything Bonnie has gone through has shown her that sometimes you have to be selfish to survive this world.

I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT A COWARD DAMON IS! Of all the selfish dickhead things Damon has done this one was at the top for me. Stefan got that scar protecting him like he always fucking does and he just left him. And Stefan is right he’s seen how ruthless Rayna is and he has no reason to trust the Armory is going to keep her captive, he can’t risk those babies lives.

God this scene is heartbreaking. The voiceover with Damon’s letter as Stefan is looking at Caroline through the door window with the curtains is so sad. Then when he touches his scar, like he’s touching his heart. My guess is Stefan was going to tell her he had to go on the run and didn't want to put the kids at risk but he saw how happy she was and couldn’t take that away from her. I know the show tried to play Stefan as a dummy who didn’t know Caroline would want to be a Mom, but he was also the only one who stood to lose her because of that so it makes sense he didn’t want to think about that. He was waiting for her to make her choice and honestly she didn't until she gave birth and held the babies in her arms.

YOU TELL HIM BONNIE! Unbelievable Damon I hope that fucking stung and continues to sting as you rot in there for three years.

Okay hear me out! I don’t have any problems with the Stefan and Valerie stuff in this episode, the stuff earlier in the season was annoying but now, eh. I get it you know, Stefan had no one left and Valerie followed him everywhere and once he knew Caroline hated him it makes sense he’d try to move on. The point is he doesn’t, in the end SV was used to show Stefan was never settling with Caroline. He had a girl who loved him completely and would do anything for him and spent three years with her alone and he still loved Caroline more. Even the kiss in this episode was not shot or played up like the one in 7x09 (thank you for your service Ian) and IDK if it was the script or Ian but Paul made it very obvious this was just drunk Stefan giving up trying to find some happiness, didn't remotely feel like how he does playful scenes with Caroline IMO.

Yo even Rayna has a tingle for Stefan and she’s programmed to murder him! I am telling you the crazy bitches cannot resist him!

Look as much as I appreciate Damon being a dick to Valerie because he’s the captain of the Steroline ship who the hell was Valerie going to transfer the scar to with Damon in a coffin! Why didn't he share this information with Stefan before he put himself in that coffin? Especially because he knows Valerie is a snake and wouldn't volunteer that solution.

There’s a part of me that’s sad we didn’t get Defan shenanigans at a Calaric wedding (vomit) because that could have been some high quality comedy.

So the timeline of everything makes no sense this season and I’m not even trying to dive into that again but this flashback seems like it happened after the SV kiss. Because that’s the same bartender and he knows Stefan and Valerie whereas it seemed like he didn’t know them yet in 7x16. So that means even when Stefan had already kissed Val he doesn’t think of her as “his girl” it was still Caroline. Love how he goes “no just one”

So basically three years in the future is just people driving around in cars trading guilt trips over phone calls.

Damon is like this world is full of all my NOTPs and I hate it!

I actually think they brought up the spinning globe on purpose to remind people of Caroline in this scene, not as a way to “steal” the symbolism from Steroline. And I said this in my other recap but I love how this scene kinda pushes Val to give up Stefan, because this is where she really accepts it’s only a matter of time before he goes back to Caroline. Like how he’s clearly lying about not thinking about Dallas because he looks down. She learned that Caroline had an unforgettable place in Stefan’s mind.

Feels like Caroline never told Ric the whole story either since she did receive letters from Stefan. Part of me thinks the writers kind of wrote themselves into a corner with this because they established Caroline hated Stefan in 7x02. But they couldn’t really build up to that without having Stefan completely abandon her so it’s like no one really knows the whole story.

The vampire hit squad thing makes no sense but it is fun so I will allow it!

Why did they kill Lucy Bennett?!

I love that Bonnie looks so happy with Enzo like especially in the guitar scene. I wish I could muster more feeling for them on Bonnie’s behalf because she always deserved a guy completely devoted to her but Enzo is just ugh.

Damon and Enzo got way too close to each others faces in that fight!

There’s so much testosterone in this episode but like in an absolutely hilarious way.

Personally I am glad that Stefan sacrificed his dignity to make sure we all knew Caroline and Alaric have never ever had sex. And the fact that what set him off was Ric saying he knew Caroline better than anyone, he was like ‘oh hell no’ YES! He is not sitting idly by while he could still fight for the love of his life, I love that he took inventory of everything being off when Ric invited him in because he was trying to gage if Caroline was really happy.

Man I love the reunion scene, the way everything stops when they see each other. The way they keep moving towards each other without even realizing almost in a trance until Caroline looks away. Then she acts like he’s not even there!

Listen I know it was because Candice was pregnant but I’m just like thank god Caroline has decided to be active member of the plot again!

This Bamenzo fight is right out of the same book as the Trios fight when Damon forced Elena to drink his blood before the sacrifice because Stefan was co-signer her plan to die in the ritual.

Stefan isn’t even trying to care about Matt’s problems or gain his sympathy he truly does not give a fuck about what people think about him anymore it’s so refreshing. He doesn’t even seem to care that Matt released Rayna on him he’s just like probably for the best lol.

Julie really threw in one more scene to be like see Stefan even tried his old tactics of trying to get the love of his life to forgive him during an emotionally fragile time. This also seems to take place after the SV kiss in 7x16 so just driving home even more how much Stefan would have dropped Val if Caroline showed up.

Honestly Matt Stefan does a fine job of ruining his own life more than anyone else’s.

OMG Caroline learned some serious manipulation tactics from Stefan I am so impressed! The way she re-routesd that conversation into “actually Ric you are unfulfilled because you want to be Indiana Jones and not being I’ve been thinking about mind blowing sex with my ex all day” just wow. Stefan would be proud. Also love how she keeps avoiding closure because she knows there’s never gonna be closure, no matter how much time passes no matter how mad she is he’s still Stefan.

This whole episode is basically about should you respect the person you loves choice to die lol.

I kinda love the way Stefan phrased it “and then I lost her” because I feel like letting Elena die was the moment SE could never come back from. Like sure they got back together in S4 but it never felt the same. There was that dark cloud over it that Damon was right along Stefan would let her die worrying about collateral damage. I also love how he mockingly says “I respected her damn choice” because he knows what an epic failure that was.

I’m glad Stefan didn’t apologize for not allowing Caroline to get herself killed. He apologized for how he did it but not he did because he loves her too much. And yeah you could interpret this to mean he loves Caroline more than he loved Elena but I think it's more about the fact that he doesn't pretend with Caroline like he did with Elena. He doesn't care what Caroline thinks about him like he did with Elena, there's no performance he needs to keep up and frankly he doesn't care to. That's why he stood his ground that keeping Caroline safe and alive was more important than respecting her choice.

Damon’s strategy of “I’m going to tell Bonnie everything that will make her the angriest” is something only he would do but is also THE BEST! Damon’s complete lack of care of consequences is truly impressive.

Love that look in the car when Stefan says “do you love him” it was exactly like when Klaus said “do you love her” in 7x14.

Julie tried fixing Matt and Bonnie with him trying to get through to her in the car, it’s just so obvious the stuff she tried to fix from earlier in the season.

This smug asshole “I feel a thaw” I ADORE this scene! The way they fell back into their old relationship so easily is why I love them! No matter how much time passes between them they're still them “you’re still you” (!!!) I love how Caroline knew exactly what he was doing, because she told him she wanted him to respect her choice and he's showing her he listened, he's saying the decision is yours period and he makes sure it stays that way.

Stefan took a page from the Damon book of doing something dangerously crazy to protect the woman you love.

Such a good Defan scene to close this season! If only it had stuck! I know it felt like it took so much to get Stefan to walk away from Damon but that's just because it's the hardest thing Stefan has ever done. Whether it makes sense or not Stefan loves his brother more than anything and he will always feel responsible for turning Damon because he needed his brother, and walking away to let his brother possibly die or worse was a HUGE moment. And I like that it didn't cripple him in S8, he was actively letting go of Damon and letting himself be happy until Damon of course ruined it again.

The running hug! The look on Caroline's face says she's totally given in, she loves him and there's no use fighting it. The way their reunion kiss is a direct parallel to their first kiss is so so so beautiful, it's almost like the show is saying they're going back to the start. The lyrics to the song too!

Lines that made me laugh:

Damon: Oh, slightly domineering-- also Stefan's type. (Points to Damon for clearly describing Caroline but also I love that Damon knows Stefan likes to be bossed around!)

Damon: Because Matt Donovan is the finest, bravest, least stupid cop you’ve ever met, and if anyone asks, that’s the lie you’ll tell them. (CRYING then when the cop said "don't worry Matt Donovan's got this" I started laughing all over again)

Leah will be there at the convention but not on the same day as jomo.I guess Klamille fans are just as unlucky as the steroline fans. Did you ship them? As for steroline wedding,would you change anything if you could?I kind of always wanted them to get married at the cabin where they had their first kiss.

I do ship Klamille! I feel like they were the only Klaus ship where I actually saw Klaus fall in love with someone and wasn't told he fell in love with someone. I didn't give in to them until that scene where he says he would have found her, that trope always gets me. I think they found each other again in Peace, I think even JoMo said that at a con. I hope he does a panel with Paul again they're so funny together, I was dying at the clip where Paul called Candice to ask her Klaus or Stefan and she's like why are you calling me.

Does Stefan not dying on his wedding night count as something to change because THAT is what I want to change! Other than that I loved it, I can't wait to rewatch it I haven't watched their wedding in years beyond looking at gifs! The cabin would have been great if they kept it small but Caroline never wanted small (even if the majority of guests were compelled to be there lol). The only other location I would have loved is the Salvatore Boarding House but since it was demolished in 2014 that was impossible. Just because that's such a huge symbol for them (they are each others home and that is their home) but I like that both of their last scenes are in the Boarding House just in different dimensions.

The best part of doing it at the Lockwood mansion was the grand staircase and Caroline walking down and Stefan turning around to see her like she looked at him in the pilot. THAT WAS EPIC! The music, the voiceover about finding happiness THE VOWS. It's taking all my strength to not watch it right now after thinking about it but I'm finally up to season 8 on my rewatch!

There have been complaints against Dries by a cast member of her show that she did after tvd. That woman doesn't seem to have a good track record.

Yup I think it was Ruby Rose on Batwoman who said she was abusive to work with. I noticed that after S7 Julie never worked with her again and now Carina is her go-to when it comes to new shows so I really think they had a falling out.

Hey Anon, nope I don't, I think if SC wasn't developed in S2 then Caroline wouldn't have been picked to soften up Klaus as a LI in S3. Caroline was a pure prop girl in S1 and her romance with Matt was way overshadowed by the fact that she wasn't Elena. Then she got turned into a vampire and everything changed for the better, because her love interests started revolving around her vampirism and how it gave her strength and confidence. It brought Stefan into her orbit outside of her just being Elena's friend, instead it was about her transition and how she reminded him of Lexi. Then she got Tyler because of that (and Stefan was involved in some TC stuff in S2) and he became totally devoted to her giving her more narrative strength.

Now if Klaus didn't get the spin-off he would have just been killed off, truth be told I believe Klaus' ending was always going to be his death it was just a matter of if it would happen as a villain on TVD in S3 or as a "redeemed" anti-hero on TO. But if Klaus was killed off in TVD S3 and KC never happened, I don't think SC would have happened or it would have happened only to prop SE. This is an old meta/explanation of how both ships getting good stuff was a GOOD thing for both ships and especially Caroline. I do however think for JP it was always SC>KC and that's why KC wasn't endgame on TO S5 after the letter in the TVD finale.

It really is interesting watching it knowing the ending though, I picked up on a lot more nuance. Season 6 was the highlight for me, I actually tried to not watch it as fast because I didn’t want it to end. Everything about that season hit, the mythology, the villain, and of course Steroline. The writing that season was some of the best the show ever had.

I had to be the bearer of bad news for my sister who's watching vampire diaries for the first time and had herself pretty much convinced stefan was in love with caroline in 2×13 that she would have to wait until after s6 for them to actually be together.This made me think if they could have gotten together earlier than they did.I'm not saying in s2 or 3 because it wouldn't have made narrative sense for Stefan to fall out of love with elena and in love with Caroline but what if what we had in s6 would have happened in s5?Do you think they would have gone down with SC while Nina was still on the show or if network had not agreed to renew after s6?I vaguely remember someone asking plec if she would have if Nina had never left and she gave some really ambiguous answers like 'I don't know.I wanted since s2 but then Klaus happened'.I also feel they wasted so much time with Damon-Elena that everything else was neglected and they dragged the triangle beyond what they should have.

Totally understand your sister’s struggle Anon because that episode is what got me to ship them too! When I watched it live I remember how when Stefan was smiling at the girls all hugging Caroline and Elena mouthed “I love you” at him I rolled my eyes and said “god shut up” because it was then I realized I shipped Steroline and was annoyed Elena wanted to make it about herself. Stefan didn’t bring Elena and Bonnie to Caroline to get brownie points from Elena he was genuinely worried about her and he knew she wasn’t ready to let him in yet so he wanted to show her he cared about her and brought who he thought could comfort her.

I think late S5 was the absolute earliest SC could have happened but TBH I’m glad they waited until S6 and spent the whole season building them up because it made them a strong ship for the writers to care about. I know JP is kind of ambiguous with what she intended for SC when she says she saw their potential in 2x02 but I think she meant that she realized she could put them together while doing DE and then going back to SE like her and KW would have planned in S2. I know most shippers think it’s bad that she says “then Klaus happened” but Klaus happening was great for us and probably saved SC from just being a prop to reunite SE. Because Klaus being interested in Caroline made her stock rise to the point she wouldn’t be used as a prop, she was moving into Elena territory where the high-powered men were interested in HER. Tyler definitely helped as well because he was never in Elena’s orbit and he got powered up as a hybrid but Klaus was the main antagonist and a crucial part of the mythology and he only cared about Caroline. I noticed during my rewatch as soon as Klaus was interested in Caroline the writers had Stefan drifting back into Caroline’s orbit until 4x03 when they had that great scene and then the foreshadowing really started. At that point they knew Klaus was getting a spin-off so JP wanted to pause KC (4x23) and lay the breadcrumbs for SC and did that with “you’ll fall madly in love without even realizing it” (4x19).

Also knowing what I know now it would have been a DISASTER if SC was started in S5 because Dries was in charge that season and while I love S5 SC it didn’t have the narrative power to trump the OG ShowTP especially because at that point Caroline still saw Stefan in a bit of an idealized light. They needed that angst in early S6 where Caroline was shown as the one Stefan had to push away THE MOST. And that her giving up on him was what pushed him to admit he wasn’t okay, they even showed that Stefan could pretend with Elena in 6x04 but he couldn’t pretend with Caroline. I think Nina leaving gave JP the go ahead that she could do SC the way she wanted to and not as a prop (which I’m sure if what KW wanted and maybe that’s how they discussed it before he left). Then when she wrote Caroline’s speech in 6x07 that was the moment she basically decided she was rolling with them until the end.

Neil Reynolds understood the core of Stefan-Caroline's dynamic really well and more so the core of who Stefan and Caroline were individually.That's why his scenes were always so impactful.He wrote some of my fav SC scenes 5×17,6×17,8×13.He's also a writer on YOU.I didn't know until s4 and when I did I was like wow! Stefan Salvatore, Joe Goldberg.He must really enjoy writing the likes of them.Good for him.He deserves it.

He really did Anon! He included so many lines of Stefan knowing Caroline well "that's what makes you you" "you overthink things yeah I know" "you think I don't know everything about you"! For Caroline as well because she called Stefan out on his martyr complex in 8x13 when he tried to say he was going on his spirit journey or whatever for her. He basically saved S7 because he was the only one who's episodes always stayed true to them, and I loved 7x21 and how he finally had Stefan voice that letting the love of your life die is not an option he was willing to entertain anymore!

I love YOU! One of my favorite crazy-ass shows and I TOTALLY see the similarities between Joe and Stefan lol! With the stalking, manipulation and having women constantly falling in love with him. Only difference is I didn’t want Stefan to die in the finale and I will be severely disappointed if Joe doesn’t die in at the end of YOU. He also wrote some episodes of Doom Patrol which is a very weird show but way better than I expected.
