In addition to paintings, the cultural space Kobzar has a large library of rare antique books. Many of the books in our library have a small print run, so I decided to reprint some brochures and documents. Today, I present a small book entitled “The Name Ukraine (Country or Outskirts)” original title in Ukrainian: "Назва Україна (Країна чи окраїна)".

The Name Ukraine (Country or Outskirts) is a journalistic work by Ukrainian historian and public figure Mykola Andrusyak, published in 1941 in Prague by the Ukrainian publishing house Proboy. In the 15 pages of this small book, the author presents a profound historical and political reflection on the meaning of the name “Ukraine” itself. Andrusiak raises the question of whether Ukraine should be perceived as a self-sufficient country with deep historical roots or as a “borderland” — the periphery of foreign empires.

The book combines scientific analysis, patriotic journalism, and a call for national awareness, which was particularly relevant in the context of World War II and the struggle for Ukrainian statehood.
This reprint can be ordered via the form on the website kobzar.in.ua or at the Violity auction. I deliberately increased the format of the reprint! The original edition measures 12.5 cm x 17 cm. The reprint edition measures 14.5 x 20.5 cm.

Horseback riding in the forest or Solitary Ride Through the Pines by Leonid Tokar captures the quiet beauty of nature and the introspective journey of a lone rider. The towering pines, muted colors, and peaceful atmosphere come together to evoke a sense of contemplation, making this painting a subtle yet powerful depiction of humanity's and horse connection to the natural world.

Cossack Mamay sits on a mead barrel (vodka infused with honey) under the Tree of Life and plays his melody. Is written in Ukrainian at the top of the painting: "Ой, лихо настало - коли медовухи не стало" (Oh, trouble came when the mead was gone).
