OC X CANON
Sanekari/Windflare lol 👅👅 and it’s in the modern au cz why not, Hikari is 19 and Sanemi is 20 (might be a bit ooc, sorry guys 🙁🙁🙁) ps. This isn’t proofread cuz I’m a bum
ᡣ𐭩. “ I need a drink... “
..Which would be reasonable to say since she works in a cafe, but that’s not the kind of drink she was talking about.
Hikari works at Kimetsu Academy as an assistant. Sadly that doesn’t pay enough to be her main source of income, so she works other places part time to pay for her fee’s. Dorms are too expensive though, so she has to drive around a bit.
She would’ve been able to live in her own apartment, but her parents decided to have her learn “ independence “ by making her work for her own flat. Until then? They wouldn’t spend another dime on her in case of emergencies.
She’s been saving, sure, but she’s still broke, and couch surfing isn’t something she’s particularly fond of. Neither is staying in cheap ass hotels.
So that’s why Hikari was zoned out, leaning on the counter while mindlessly scrolling through whatever. The noise in the background was completely blurred out until she felt a hand tap her on the back.
“ Are you trying to get fired? If I was any normal person, I would’ve reported you by now. “ Sanemi’s voice cut through the silence in her head, and she quickly looked over her shoulder.
She couldn’t help but smile. Whenever Sanemi was around, Hikari’s mood was visibly improved. They found his quick retorts and short temper almost endearing, and the way he didn’t care about appealing to people.
She put her phone in her pocket before letting Sanemi have her attention. “ Apologies, mister. I didn’t know you visited here? ”
“ Knock it off with the formalities. “ Sanemi shook his head. Hikari put her forearm on the counter and leaned down to his height. “ What can I get for you? “
As she noted down his surprisingly sweet order, she couldn’t help but try to make some small talk. It was a slow day, so she wasn’t expecting customers for a bit, and she just wanted to know more about him.
“ This cafe is quite far from campus. Are you a regular? “ Hikari put her pen in her pocket. Sanemi obviously looked uninterested, but he decided to talk to her anyway.
“ I guess you could say that. I usually only come here on weekdays to do homework after volunteering, but what about you? Why are you working here of all places? “
Hikari clicked her tongue just at the thought. Thinking about her parents basically kicking her out onto the curb to learn how to ‘be an adult’ pissed her off. “ ..it’s the closest to the hotel I’m staying at. “ she rolled her eyes.
Confused, Sanemi decided to press more into the matter. “ Hotel? You don’t have your own place? “ He looked like he was about to burst out laughing while Hikari lowered her head in shame.
When Sanemi noticed she didn’t even look mad, he composed himself and lowered his tone. “ That’s fuckin’ pathetic. How’d that happen? “
“ my parents are goddamn surgeons. I was a trust fund baby until they decided the best way to teach me how to be mature was to kick me out and leave me with a car. “
Hikari was surprised he was actually listening to her rant, but felt heat rising to her ears when he just made fun of her again.
“ I mean, that’s one way to do it. Makes it funnier for us, anyway! “ Sanemi snickered, earning a certain hand gesture from the woman infront of him.
Before he could say anything else, Hikari walked off to the drink station. Sanemi was lucky she was even willing to make his drink at this point. She was so pissed, she almost pumped too much espresso into his drink and nearly grabbed the salt instead of sugar.
When she was done putting together his order and telling her colleague to take the next customers order, she walked over to the table Sanemi was sitting at.
It took everything in her not to take the damn pastries in her hand and throw it at him, but she just wiped off her apron and placed his stuff down onto the table.
“ A latte and four beignets, yea? “ She put her hands on her hips. Hikari relaxed a bit when Sanemi confirmed she was correct. “ Leave your trash on the counter or give it to another worker, please. “ She pointed towards the edge of the counter, and he nodded.
Just a few moments later, one of her coworkers came up to her with a paper bag in her hand. “ The guy who just left wanted me to give you this. “ She wiped the powdered sugar off of the bag before giving it to Hikari.
It was his number, along with a small note of pity, letting her know that if she needed help with a place to stay, he could stay at his place for a bit since he had an extra room.
“ huh. “ she looked at the note with a spark of surprise in her eye, quickly followed by a pang of guilt in her chest for putting less powdered sugar on his beignets on purpose.
