Sanji’s sacrifices are not acts of defiance against death, like Zoro’s, but rather they are acceptance. this can be seen in Drum Island, when he throws Luffy and Nami off the log, knowing that he will probably be killed in the avalanche. again, on the Maxim in Skypeia, he kicks Usopp out of the way of Enel’s blast, only to take it head on, rather than do anything to counter it. for Sanji, his own life is worth less than the others, because he has already experienced the approach of death, and he is comfortable with the idea of ending his life as a sacrifice for people or places he cares about. to Sanji, he is already on his second life, and he has no qualms about saving other people from having to experience the hell that coming too close to death can bring. –xarciel

This whole scene stands really well on its own, but it gets added depth when you take in Sanji’s backstory from Whole Cake Island. This kind of altruism is completely foreign to him even in the best of circumstances. Sanji can’t understand why anyone–let alone this rando pirate who literally broke some of his ribs not too long ago–would sacrifice himself for someone so useless and weak, and he lashes out in anger because of it. Within the context of this arc, however, it perfectly explains Sanji’s relationship with Zeff and why the former is so willing to throw his life away for the Baratie.

One thing I really like about One Piece is that all the characters are allowed to cry. And I don’t mean this accepted “cute” crying with only a few tears, but this ugly crying with snot from the nose and contorted faces. Real crying. It’s so rarely seen. Also that everyone can cry like this in OP. The manly badass, the stoic, the goofy, the beautiful woman, the old and the young. Everyone can cry and that doesn’t make them less badass or beautiful. It’s just a part of life and I think more media should treat it as such.

One Piece chapter 947 review

I’ve decided to now do some short reviews of the chapters that comes out. I won’t do an over the board analysis of the chapters, but rather just small thoughts and things I noticed. Hope you’ll like it!

Not a lot to say over this chapter, but still, a pretty interesting one. 

As we obviously thought, Luffy did the same thing as Rayleigh with the explosive collars, but we now know that it was with the armement haki that he did it! A nice thing to know.

Also, as I thought, Big Mom regain her memories. I wonder where it will go...

And I like how Luffy said that he was always free. He really just took this as a training hahahaha, I love it!
