Lately I have been making mostly doll clothes, but a couple months back I figured out that with some adjustments, a cupcake hat could work as some really cute plush home decor, and then made a batch of plush cupcakes. I thought the world could use more flowers, so I went through some photos I took last Summer of Marigolds and Zinnias, and I used them to create this digital piece, "Marigolds and Zinnias".  It can be a stand-alone print as shown, but I've also designed it so that it works as a repeating pattern, and sent it off to Spoonflower in a couple of different sizes to have it proofed for use as a fabric design. So what feels like 10 years ago, but was actually February 2020, I was buying yarn to make more bears for the Mother Bear Project, and to paraphrase Michael Scott; I felt the need, the need for tweed. Don't remember when exactly I started bear number 10 here, but he's been half finished on a loom for most of the pandemic. So much has fallen on my ability to make things this year, I just couldn't keep up with my usual charity knitting. But I don't do work on Christmas,...But I am also a fidgety person who needs to be doing something with my hands, so I decided I was gonna finish this bear so some kid who was never gonna get a toy ever, will get a bear at some point. - Learning some crochet this year helped speed up making the arms, and he's got a nicer shape than some of the previous bears currently in the box I'm filling. I kinda want to add a yellow scarf, but I have no yellow tweed yarn (is that a thing?), so I'm debating if that's worth breaking the tweed theme...And then I started going around the house tracking down the donation boxes that couldn't be filled and/or donated as planned this year, because eventually whatever had to close will open (I think Mother Bear Project is open), I'll get my end of it sorted out, and the USPS will be less of a mess, and then all these toys and things can go out and start helping people again. So I didn't post about how spinning all that rainbow wool turned out, because I'm still spinning it, and I did take a break. Things got kinda busy, but also it was pointed out that along with spinning I could also be using my recent adventures with wool to try needle felting, so I used/am using some of the rainbow wool for that now too. FYI needle felting is taking wool and repeatedly stabbing it until it's all fused together in the shape you want. Honestly, I thought a craft where you repeatedly stab something would be really satisfying, but this turned out to be more tedious than I imagined. I opted to work in 1:12 scale and I keep trying to make really detailed things, so maybe I've just over thought the craft. I don't hate it though. I watched a tut on how to use cookie cutters as shape guides, which is how I made the tiny car. I designed another round of fabric for Spoonflower to print. ☺Still planning on sewing miniatures for a while, but I also wanted to create some larger designs this time, so I had everything printed on fat quarters instead of just the small test swatches. - Which means I have a lot of sewing to do now. Even if I'm not personally here much during the pandemic, if ART247 is open so is the door to studio 233, and there's a lot to see inside. ☺ - I needed to swing by and switch out some supplies/inventory + I found out that there's a show opening this weekend, so I did some quick cleaning and reorganizing. I have been using the test swatches from my new fabric designs to make dollhouse sized pillows! This is only half the fabric, because I realized if I waited until I got through all of it, it was going to be a very crowded photo. - I was a little unsure of how the Spoonflower fabric would hold up to miniature work, but the only fraying I had to deal with was backing fabric that I pulled from a bin at the studio. Spoonflower's printed cotton fabric holds up just fine. Good to know. 😀 . If you have a mail in/absentee ballot, but don't entirely trust the mail in part right now, another option is walking it right into your Board of Elections Office (5th building I've been in since March). There probably won't be a line , and you don't have to wait until election day to do it.
