List of series I watched in 2025, part 1: January to March It's mostly kdramas, haha My favorites in bold, absolute favorite in green. Ratings are very subjective. Number 3 for example rates so high not because it's a cinematic masterpiece, but because it has most of my favorite tropes.
Memorist (2020) - Korean. A detective has an ability to see people's memories when he touches them. Memory shenanigans, serial killer, mysterious pasts, bit of found family as well. Thriller/Mystery. Many twists. Liked it. The ML's team was adorable. 8/10
Delivery man (2023) - Korean. Taxi driver starts seeing ghosts, and ends up working with one of them. It's mostly romance and mystery. It's not overly ambitious. It's cute and relaxing, if a bit frustrating sometimes. You have to suspend disbelief and ignore things that don't make sense or aren't thought out in the best of ways. Don't take it too seriously. Had an awesome scene at the funeral of one of the character's when the villain showed his true nature. 5/10
Hello Monster AKA Remember you (2015) - Korean. Criminal profiler with a troubled past and his stalker who also happens to be a detective. Thriller. Some romance, but it's not the true focus. Serial killer(s), lost and found family, amnesia, vigilantism, family bonds, nature vs nurture. It's right up my alley. I love crime shows and I absolutely love interesting family dynamics, and questions of morality. Also, Seo In-Guk plays the male lead character and I am weak. I didn't know Do Kyung-Soo was in it, so that was a pleasant surprise. This was my first time watching anything with Park Bo-Gum and- I am very weak. Overall, the show is very good. It starts of pretty strong, but the last few episodes feel a bit weaker. The ending falls a bit flat, but even so, most of the burning questions were answered. It left an impression. It's one of those I feel like I could watch again, and have already re-watched many scenes. 9/10
Love in the Moonlight (2016) - K-drama. Hong Ra-On disguises herself as a man and due to a series of events ends up as a eunuch at the palace where she meets the crown prince and they fall in love. Romance with some court/rebel drama. Didn't I say that I liked Park Bo-Gum? I did. The FL cried a lot and had to be constantly saved. I don't know how she managed to fool anyone for that long. She didn't so much pretend to be a man as she just wore men's clothing. I found the first episodes where ML didn't know she was a woman more compelling. There wasn't really any gay panic, just feelings realization, introspection and acceptance, all done in quite a mature way. Still, the romance wasn't bad, but the FL wasn't the type of character I enjoy. They had some really cute moments though. Broship is strong in this one. I wish we saw more of the relationship between the prince and his buddies, and I'm unhappy with how one of them ended up. My favorite scenes were the ones that showed the deep loyalty bonds they shared. 6/10
Destined with You (2023) - Korean. Romance. A man whose entire family line has been cursed meets a woman who might be able to lift the curse. It starts okay, but then it looses most of the fantasy elements and stops dealing with the curse that much. It becomes mostly about a love triangle and a random stalker/murderer. It was a struggle to finish it. Which is a pity, as it had potential. 6/10
House of Ninjas (2024) - Japanese. A family of shinobi's is forced to come out of retirement. Liked it. Nice amount of family drama and action scenes. Also, Haru, the precious second born son, struggling with the fact that the job description requires killing. I like how they have shown that even kindness can have negative consequences. Didn't like the soundtrack. Too many English songs (why? really confused by the song choices.), and although the lyrics fit the scene it just felt off. 8/10
Crash (2024) - Korean. Follows the members of TCI (Traffic Crime Investigation) team. I'm fond of all the main characters, and especially of the blank face Lee Min-Ki puts on for this role. The soundtrack is a bit odd. It's not bad, just doesn't really fit well with certain scenes. The poster for it is also a bit misleading, as it makes it seem like the series is a lot less serious than it actually is. Enjoyable watch. 7/10
Seoul Busters (2024) - Korean. Didn't finish this one. Feels a bit like a sitcom. Some comedy elements. It follows a Violent Crime Unit that's not doing very well. Things change when they get a new boss. All the members are a bit odd, including the new boss. I loved the setting. Their office is in a closed down kindergarten, and they haven't felt the need to redecorate. They enjoy bright colors and sitting on children's furniture, I guess (I would too). There's also a kid who's constantly there because his parent has nowhere else for him to go. It has its moments, but I just couldn't get into it.
Encounter AKA Boyfriend (2018) Korean. Series that are focused mostly on romance are not really my thing, but Park Bo-Gum playing the ML was enough for me to give it a go. It's about a relationship between an older woman and a younger man. They meet in Cuba, and then they run into each other again in South Korea, when they discover that they are now a boss and an employee. It reverses some of the tropes usually found in romantic shows. The ML is the free spirited, beautiful one who comes from a good family, but with a simple background. The FL is the rich, lonely one. However, she is also nice. They both try to be very respectful toward each other. They face some obstacles along the way, of course. It's a slow burn, and it's gentle. They make Park Bo-Gum's character smile too often, and it's a lovely smile so I get it, but let his face rest occasionally. Also, he wears very expensive looking clothing, but I guess that is just in-series advertisement of sorts. I stopped at episode 7, not because there was anything wrong with, but just because of personal preference. I need my series to be a bit more dynamic, and this one is definitely a slow burn.
Light Shop (2024) - Korean. The Light Shop is not your ordinary shop. It's a bridge of sorts, a doorway, and also a vault. The show deals with afterlife and limbo. Follows a bunch of different characters and their interconnected stories. Non-linear storytelling. Eight episodes, mostly on the shorter side (45 min). Good for binge watching, a bit frustrating otherwise as there are too many story lines and they only get a little bit of time each. It's heartwarming and emotional. Expect to shed a few tears if you cry as easily as I do. Deals quite a bit with grief. Good, but I need something a bit more lighthearted after it. 8/10
Spy x Family (2023 - Season 2) - Japanese. Anime. As lovely as the first season. 8/10
Lilyhammer (2012) - Norwegian/US. A gangster testifies against his boss and ends up in witness protection in Norway where he meets the locals, makes some friends, makes some enemies, finds love, and starts a shady business. Only watched the first three episodes. It's pretty good, but I didn't love any of the characters, and I'm simply not in the right mood for it.
Equinox (2020) - Danish. Mystery/Thriller/Supernatural. A woman goes on a search to discover what happened to her sister who disappeared twenty years ago. 6 episodes long. A bit slow, atmospheric, and leaves some questions unanswered. If it was any longer I probably wouldn't have finished it. 5/10
Love Game in Eastern Fantasy (2024) - Chinese. Fantasy/Romance. Female protagonist ends up in the world of the novel she wrote a negative review for. I thought I would drop it after a few episodes, but ended up finishing it. I liked the beginning when it looked like she was in a video game (tutorial/die and come back at certain checkpoint/quests). Once the tutorial bit is over she can't come back to life and eventually even forgets she's in the book world. I know it was needed to raise the stakes, but still. Would have probably benefited from being shorter. Often more than a bit cheesy, but endearing enough that I got all the way through the end even though I sometimes had to switch it up to 1.5 speed. Which, admittedly, I do with many shows. 7/10
Bad and crazy (2021) - Korean. Follows a police officer who has a split personality. Had potential, but it wasn't fully realized. Also, plot holes. I had fun watching it, mostly because I really liked the characters, and not just the main ones. 7/10
Welcome to Samdal-ri (2023) - Korean. Romance. Set primarily on Jeju island, in a place called Samdal-ri - small town where everyone knows everyone. Lots of flashbacks. It has the trope of the successful woman from a big city that has to go back to her small hometown and once there she cannot avoid her ex. I like Ji Chang-Wook, and I've only seen Shin Hae-Sun in Mr. Queen, but I loved her there. It's wholesome, it's cute, but a bit too drawn out for my taste. It's one of those that I think would have worked a lot better as a 12 episode series. 6.5/10

My cats have this meow that means "please come with me to fix this" after which they'll lead me to the problem in question, usually a empty (or 'empty') food bowl or a closed door they want open. They look at the 'problem', they look back at me, clear message.
What fascinates me is how this illustrates what they percieve as being in the realm of my 'power.' I control the food, I control the door, sure, but my cats love to sit on the balcony in the sun, and it has happened plenty of times that on a rainy day they come get me, go to the balcony and show me... the rain. "Please fix this" they say. "Please get rid of the wet"
"Silly kitty," I say, "I can't control the rain." I then walk into the shower and turn on the rain.

In the Lost Lands is so bad. Usually I try not to be overly critical. I understand what it is like when you create something and somebody calls it bad. It hurts, and I don't like being hurtful. But damn.
