My Awesome Tumblr Writing Adventure, Day #1

Okay, it’s day one of my scheduled tumblr posting. As always, writing is fresh on my mind. With my girlfriend being here from America the last fortnight, my writing schedule has unfortunately taken a back seat. I swear, it’s a miracle I didn’t get cranky! But, then again, I guess she has that effect on me.

Usually, I dedicate time to writing each morning to improve my craft. Most of the time, this is good old-fashioned writing and editing. But I also dedicate time to other things, like research, casual reading for inspiration, worldbuilding, other side projects, etc.. I find having multiple WIPs at once helps with motivation, as you can flit between them interchangeably like a true writer’s bug to overcome block. With November just around the corner, planning for NaNoWriMo is underway, so these morning sessions have become very important indeed.

Right now, my focus is on developing new characters for my novels. I find myself inspired by the people around me, both at home and at work, for their different personalities and quirks. Not all are flattering, but those will never see the light of day (or be credited, at least).

My girlfriend has truly introduced me to a vibrant array of new friends that I’ve being trying to spend time with. Though I don’t spend as much time actually writing anymore, I believe these experiences are just as important for honing my craft.

Every day, I choose a topic from a jar for a worldbuilding exercise. Today’s was to flesh out a currency for my world. I’ll make this a separate post this evening, as this one is bound to be reaching a word limit right now.

A special thanks to everybody who’s followed me! I’ve only made an introductory post, and already I have 30+ followers?! Thankyou all. Though I may never become a bestselling author, having readers has been very fulfilling for me.
