Marvel Animation Character Design, X-MEN '97, Professor Xavier Teddy Bear Monster Transformation. Media: Digital.
In the Season One episode entitled, "Fire Made Flesh," my assignment was to design a couple of baby Nathan Summers' nursery items as they are turned into nightmarish monsters. Working from the storyboards, I took on this spooky challenge. For the teddy bear transformation into a monstrous Professor Xavier, I needed to illustrate four essential stages. In my mind, I drew inspiration from the Boggart transformations in the film HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (2004), with that sort of unsettling tornado-twist effect. Rather than burdening the Prop Designers, I designed a little rocking chair for the teddy, morphing it into a very crude and creepy version of Xavier's wheelchair. Here, I've thrown in my own shadow treatments to push the scary atmosphere.

Marvel Animation Character Design, X-MEN '97, Bishop. Media: Photoshop I was assigned the Bishop character to provide Expression Sheets, one for body poses, and the other for facial expressions. This was intended as a further aid to the animators. At this time, I am only permitted to post the facial Expressions Sheet. The art style was established by Lead Character Designer Amelia Vidal, the lady with the cool name.

Perfectionism is when you go back to improve on artwork that was printed years earlier, but the results of the collaboration didn't match what you originally saw in your head.
Maybe science will someday cure this perfectionist condition? Where is my pill?

WB Animation Character Design, WATCHMEN, Dr. Manhattan, Silk Spectre.
During the Season Four production of YOUNG JUSTICE, I was approached by executive producer Brandon Vietti to assist on his side project, developing an animated adaptation of WATCHMEN, the epic graphic novel series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. This was all top secret at the time, so I was not permitted to mention it to anyone. Now that the teaser-trailer has dropped, and the completed feature film is soon to be released, I am free to share what little work I submitted. As with other DC adaptations, the effort was to translate the art style as originally established in print. So, I was required to emulate the style of artist Dave Gibbons as closely as possible.

Disney/Marvel Animation Character Design, X-MEN '97, Gladiator Turns. Media: Adobe Photoshop. In the First Season of the series, I was assigned the Gladiator character to design, and turn, based on the art style established by Lead Character Designer Amelia Vidal. Characters with asymmetrical details present an added challenge in turning. Gladiator is one of the many superhero characters that are obvious rip-offs/homages to Superman. But I also believe that this guy and OMAC have the same hair-stylist.

Marvel Animation Character Design, X-MEN '97, Spiral Turns. Media: Adobe Photoshop
Working from a fantastic character design pose provided by Lead Character Designer Amelia Vidal, my assignment was to accurately turn Spiral, who appears in an early episode in the First Season due to the shape-changing abilities of Morph. This was a challenge because of all the detail, along with the character's multiple arms, the pairs of which are not symmetrical.
Pending official approval, I hope to add color to this illustration at a later date.

X-MEN '97: Franchise Group Shot - Marvel Animation Character Design, X-MEN '97, franchise poster. Media: Adobe Photoshop
For Season One, the honor fell to me to assist in marketing the series by fully illustrating the line art for what would be a group poster image. The original rough sketch by Supervising Director Jake Castorena was provided to me, laying out the composition. I put the various characters on-model as individual elements, adhering to the art style established by Lead Character Designer Amelia Vidal. Addressing Amelia's notes, I proceeded to final clean-up and composition adjustments. At some point, pending official approvals, I hope to add my own selections of color and SFX as fan art, as well as post each character separately.
*It has come to my attention that this line art has been shared online prior to this release. ANYONE posting this artwork, claiming it as their own creation is LYING to you. I think it's a very sad state of affairs when others seek to somehow elevate themselves by taking credit for things they haven't done. The ONLY entities rightfully credited for this line art are Disney/Marvel, Marvel Comics, the original character creators, Jake Castorena, Amelia Vidal, and myself, JKMoore.
As always, thanks so much for viewing!

Disney/Marvel Animation Character Design, X-MEN '97, Ronan The Accuser. Media: Adobe Photoshop. I had designed this character before for a different show. So, I referenced that previous design while adapting Ronan for the X-MEN '97 series under a fresh art style established by Lead Character Designer Amelia Vidal.

WB Animation Team Project Signature Poster, SCOOBY-DOO!: LEGEND OF THE PHANTOSAUR.
This was a side project for me, as I was volunteered by a co-worker to help design the dinosaurs in this Direct-to-Video animated feature.

Pet Portrait. Media: Prismacolor pencil on toned construction paper. THE TALE: Back in my days at WB Consumer Products, a very kind waitress at a favorite hot dog diner asked me to draw her dog that had recently died. A co-worker volunteered me to do it, but I couldn't disappoint Renie, even though I procrastinated over doing it for about a year. Renie never begrudged me this at all, and she was so happy to finally receive it, she bounced around the diner, showing the drawing to everybody she could. She was a classy lady.

Disney's Tigger, from Winnie The Pooh (created by A.A. Milne), playing volleyball. I did this for a friend using prismacolor pencils on toned construction paper. For a first stab at drawing any Disney character, I don't think it's too bad.
Wow! This was almost 20 years ago!
