Ladybug Week day 7: Library date
Blake took a quick breath as she walked into the library to meet Ruby for their date, still nervous. Spending time with Ruby outside of missions was already a rarity, and going on a date was something that she’d wanted to do with Ruby for a long time. So she wanted this to go right.
Still, she put on a smile and made her way to the table that Ruby was at. “Sorry I’m late.”
“Its fine,” Ruby said as she got up. “I havent been waiting long.”
Blake blushed as she felt Ruby hug her, her heart pounding in her chest. She pulled away from her and tried to hide her blush. “I-I was thinking we could start by looking for books we think the other would like. Or we could… find something to read… together.”
“Together sounds nice. What did you have in mind?”
“Maybe a romance novel,” Blake more asked than said, her cheeks starting to turn red again with a blush. She then coughed and tried to compose herself. “O-or we could find an adventure book to read.”
Ruby smiled a bit. “A romance novel sounds nice. Any in mind?”
“I think I know one.”
“Then lead the way.”
Blake nodded and started to make her way to the all familiar romance section. Though she had the perfect book in mind: A Trial by Love. She scanned the shelves for it, pulling it off once she found it. “Here we go, this one is perfect.”
“What’s it about?” Ruby asked as she looked at the cover.
“Its actually a tragedy about two lovers who end up as bitter enemies, destined to fight each other until their kingdom collapses. I know its not really what you like-”
“I’d be willing to read it with you.” Ruby gently put a hand on the book. “It sounds a lot like the stories I read.”
“W-we… we should get back to our table then.” Blake couldnt help but blush and smile as she felt Ruby’s hand on the book, almost embarrassed about how she was feeling. It wasnt like she was a little girl anymore, so struggling to talk to Ruby and feeling her hand brush against hers shouldnt make her feel this way.
And yet, being with Ruby brought out the young girl in her. Walking with Ruby made her heart pound in her chest, she struggled to find the right words to say, every touch brought her back to feeling like she did at Beacon… almost like she had been experiencing love for the first time again.
Blake sat down at the table with Ruby and placed the book down. “So, how did you want to do this?”
Ruby smiled and leaned in against Blake to open the book. “I think I’m fine like this.”
Blake’s blush deepened as she felt Ruby against her. She nervously put an arm around Ruby, her hand rubbing against Ruby’s side as she started to read with her. It was nice, peaceful, a change of pace from the missions that Ozpin had been sending the two of them on. And she didnt want to let go of this feeling.

Ladybug week day 6: Childhood AU
Ruby quietly climbed out of her bedroom window, careful to make as little noise as she could as she dropped to the ground. She fussed with the pins that kept her ears down in her hair to make sure they were hidden before pulling the hood of her cloak over. Then, she checked the bag that hung on her shoulder to make sure her White Fang mask was with her and safe. Tonight was going to be her first dust raid and she wanted to make sure she had everything she needed for it.
She took a deep breath, turned to look at the house one last time, and then started to make her way to take the last ferry of the night. If everything went well, she’d be back on the first ferry to Patch and be home just before her dad woke up. Though, if he found out she was out-
“So you did decide to come,” Blake said with a smile as she dropped out of a tree. “Adam was thinking you were gonna chicken out.”
“I wasnt going to chicken out,” Ruby lied as she looked away. The thought of staying home did cross her mind more than once, though the idea of disappointing Blake seemed worse than disappointing her dad. “I-I just… needed to.. wait until I wasnt going to get caught sneaking out.”
“You could always run away,” Adam said as he walked over, almost glaring at Ruby from under his mask. “Then we wont have to be late waiting for you.”
“And now she’s here so we can go.” Blake sighed and started to make her way to the ferry. “And then we can fill her in with the plan.”
“Fine. But if she slows us down, she’s out.”
Ruby slowly followed behind Adam and Blake as she tried to listen to them. Most of the words almost seemed muffled to her as she lost focus on what was being said, only able to focus on Blake. She couldnt help but wonder what life would’ve been like if Blake hadnt saved her, given her a reason to join the White Fang. She was tired of being beat for being a faunus, angry that her dad made her hide her trait anytime she went out, always treated like she was destined for nothing more than a life of hard labor. And yet, when she was with Blake, everything felt like it was going to work out. That no matter what they did, it’ll all be worth it.
“Are you going to answer him?” Blake asked.
Ruby nearly stopped in her tracks when she realized that Blake had gotten right next to her. “I-I didnt… what was the question?”
“I asked if you’re sure you want to do this,” Adam repeated, annoyed. “Once you step onto the ferry, there’s no turning back.”
Ruby nodded, her heart almost thumping in her chest when she saw Blake give her a smile. “Yes! I want to do this more than anything!”
Adam smirked and motioned for Ruby and Blake to follow him. “Then dont slow us down.”
Ruby stepped onto the ferry with Blake and Adam, straying towards the edge as she looked back towards her home. Her dad and Yang still hadnt noticed she’d left for the night, which meant she was almost in the clear. Once she reached Vale, as long as she got back before either of them woke up, then she wouldnt have to come up with some sort of excuse as to why she was out.
“Everything okay?” Blake asked as she moved next to her. “You’ve been quiet ever since you boarded.”
“Just trying to figure out what to tell Dad and Yang if they ask.”
“You’re planning on going back to them?”
“Of course. Why wouldnt I?”
Blake gently pulled Ruby’s hood down and frowned. “Because they make you hide who you are. I thought you wanted to be yourself.”
Ruby wanted to pull her hood back up, but she knew Blake was right. Of course she wanted to be more herself, seeing Blake keep her own ears out made her long to be able to do the same. She slowly pulled the pins that held her ears down to let them up. “Where else would I go?”
“You can come home with us,” Blake suggested. “Its just a small camp right now-”
“We cant afford to bring another kid along!” Adam snapped. “We’re running low on supplies as it is, another mouth to feed is only going to cause us problems.”
“I-I’ve been training to be a huntress.” Ruby fidgeted with the pins she held as she tried to look more confident. “I dont have my own weapon yet, Dad wont let me have one for another year, but I can make myself useful!”
Adam paused for a moment as if he was thinking about it. “If you survive the raid tonight, then we’ll take you back.”
Ruby let out a silent breath as Adam turned and walked to the other side of the ferry. She wasnt sure why her heart felt like it was pounding in her chest or why her stomach suddenly felt like it was in knots about being herself. But if Blake was sure this was the best way, then she had to know what she was talking about.
Blake gave Ruby a playful hit on her shoulder and smiled. “Stay close to me and I’ll make sure you’re safe.”

Ladybug week day 5: Beach Day
Blake finished packing her bag and double checked she had everything she needed. Towel? Check. Swimsuit? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Everything was packed and accounted for.
Except for Ruby.
Not that it was hard to find her, the hotel wasnt very big and while Argus was a larger city, there were only so many weapon shops that Ruby was allowed to go to since she promised to keep close. Especially since today was supposed to be a day about them.
Still, Blake grabbed her scroll and dialed Ruby’s number. A smile crossed her lips as Ruby answered. “Where are you? We’re supposed to be heading to the beach.”
“And we will, but I’m running a bit late,” Ruby answered. “Something came up and I cant… exactly… pull away from it.”
“This is supposed to be our vacation.”
“And it is! I promise! I’ll explain once I get there.”
“Please dont take too long. I dont want a repeat of last time.”
“There wont be. I’ll meet you at the beach.”
“Alright. I love you.”
“Love you too.”
The call ended and Blake let out a sigh as she put her scroll down. Every time they went on any sort of vacation, there was always something that pulled Ruby away. A grimm attack, an urgent mission that Ozpin needed her for, a missing pet… something always needed more attention.
Still, Ruby wasnt one to back down from a promise. If she was going to be at the beach later, then Blake trusted she’d be there. So, she grabbed her pack and started to make her way out of the hotel and towards the beach. And it was still their vacation even if Ruby was pulled away for something else. And if anything, it’d mean she can get a spot for the two of them.
Blake smiled and took a deep breath as she stepped outside of the hotel and felt the warm, summer sun on her skin. It was still early enough in the day that the streets were still relatively quiet as others started to make their way to work or towards the shops. A few military airships flew overhead on patrol like they always did to make sure there werent any grimm heading towards the city. And being this close to the beach meant that she could smell the salt in the air.
She made her way to the beach and walked down the quiet streets, though she couldnt help but keep an eye out for Ruby. Even with the promise that she’d be at the beach, there still felt like there was something odd in her voice with the way she spoke. Her voice had sounded nervous as if there was something she had wanted to say, and she was much more vague than she’d normally be if she was called onto a mission.
Blake paused as she saw a few rose petals flutter through the streets towards her. She caught one and watched it disintegrate in her hand. This was certainly proof that Ruby was still in Argus. And if she was still here, then maybe she could catch her and find out what was more important than taking a day off to relax.
Her eyes wandered down the street to see a few more rose petals in the breeze and she started to make her way in the direction they were coming from. Ruby had to be close if she could see the petals like this. Or at least close enough since her petals didnt last for too long.
It wasnt long before Blake found herself running through the streets chasing after rose petals that were carried along the breeze. She caught a few of them, smiling as they took longer to disappear in her hands. More of them started to flutter in the wind and she raced faster, using her own semblance to hop up onto the rooftops expecting to find Ruby-
“Are you looking for someone?” a florist asked.
-only to find nothing more than just a florist’s cart. Blake’s eyes watched as a few rose petals fell off the roses and were carried off by the wind the same way Ruby’s would. She could feel her stomach twist in knots, nervous that Ruby had left. “N-no, I just… I thought I smelled some flowers from home but I see I was mistaken.”
The florist nodded and started to mess with a few of the flowers. “Where are you from?”
“Menagerie.”
“You’re the second person who wanted flowers from there,” the florist said as she started to move her cart. “Another girl with a red cloak came by asking for the same thing. Said she wanted them for someone.”
“Where did she go?” Blake asked.
“Towards the beach.”
“Thank you!” Blake yelled out as she started to head towards the beach. She kept to the rooftops, using her semblance to throw herself over the gaps between a few of the buildings, hoping she wasnt going to be too late for Ruby. Of course she should’ve trusted Ruby that she’d be there, and jumping to the conclusion that she was going to take a mission over spending time with her wasnt exactly the best thought she could’ve had.
Blake dropped from the rooftops and to the street just before reaching the beach, almost out of breath as she made her way down. It was already busier than expected, which meant finding a spot would’ve been easier if she had just made her way over in the first place instead of trying to find Ruby. Still, this could be salvaged. All she had to do was find a place before Ruby found her-
“Blake!” Ruby called out. “Over here!”
Blake followed the sound of Ruby’s voice and found her over by a picnic table. A smile crossed her lips when she saw a bouquet of passion flowers in Ruby’s hands. “Sorry I’m late. It took a little longer to get here than I thought. “
“Well, it is summer,” Ruby said with a smile. “Guess everyone else had the same idea as we did.”
“I-I should’ve expected that.”
“Its fine. We still have a great spot. We’re over by the foodshack and not too far away from the water as well. Plus, the day’s only just started, so it should get less crowded as it goes on.”
Blake nodded and sat her pack down next to her on the bench. “So, were those what you were running late for?”
Ruby sat the small vase and the bouquet of flowers on the table and smiled. “That and a surprise for later at our hotel.”
“What kind of surprise?”
“If you can catch me, maybe I’ll tell you.”
“Wait, Ruby!” Blake couldnt help but laugh as Ruby rushed off in a flurry of petals towards the water. She got up and started to chase after, taking her shoes off as she ran through the sand. Today was going to be a wonderful day.
