WEEKLY WRITING UPDATE 2/16 - 2/22 (I say, as if I will remember to do this weekly):

Words written: around 5k

Goal for 2/23 - 3/1: Finished, fairly clean draft of Bloody Aubade for beta readers. Approx. 30k words.

I’ve been off insta for a few days which has helped fucking TREMENDOUSLY, both for my mental health and my writing. I got back on today just to respond to a few DMs, but I won’t be on socials again till the 28th.

Physically writing before I type has helped me a TON, because I naturally re-write a lot when I transfer everything over. Absolutely going to be doing written first drafts in the future.

I want to preface this by saying that I am confident I will have Bloody Aubade out by August (at the latest), but rn I’m looking at a first draft. Like, yes, it’s technically a re-write, but the re-write accidentally turned into a completely different monster than what I’d originally planned.

That said, I’m scrambling a little to get it fairly clean and presentable for beta readers (or alpha readers, I guess). I’ve known for a while that I’m going to have to do several rounds of betaing before I’m comfortable anyway.

Trying not to think too far ahead, but heavily considering a kickstarter campaign, so I can pay for stuff like a good cover and isbns. Kickstarters just genuinely scare the shit out of me though. Like, I know people are not just GIVING me money—they’re getting something in return—but it still makes me feel weird and a little guilty.

6k away from my re-write word count goal for Bloody Aubade. My aim is to have it done by the 18th, so it’s beta reader ready by the 28th (because I need to make some changes) We’ll see how many words it actually end up being😭😭

Love/hate relationship with the part of the writing process where I’m 3/4ths of the way done and something doesn’t feel right, so I’m re-evaluating, but I’m also just actively losing my fucking mind.

So, the MC of Bloody Aubade is a doctor, and he’s in a town rn where the people are literally dropping like flies. He’s preforming autopsies in an effort to figure out what the fuck is going on, but he’s so socially inept that people are scared/very wary of him. Muninn (who I also suspect is autistic—just better at masking, whoops) acts as a sort of buffer/translator—why I compare their relationship to Castiel and Dean a lot.

You know how Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks is autistic coded asf, but he appears normal in context because people take his behavior in stride (which I very much love and appreciate)? Cassius is like if Agent Cooper was treated like an autistic person.

A LOT has changed, and I’m really excited to put every ounce of energy I have into this book (which, granted, is not much) and introduce you in the coming days.
