Summary:

Harry Potter was head over heels in love with Tom Riddle. This was as obvious to everyone as the sky being blue. Getting in detention, luring him into conversations, and unintentionally getting paired with him for projects are the only ways she knows how to get his attention. If only he watched her during Quidditch matches, maybe she'd have a better chance, but he didn't care for Quidditch. How was she supposed to make him realize they're meant to be together?

Dia, I appreciate all your character insights so much!!

On a related note, I can’t even express how much your support over time has meant to me! Dia was the first reader who was super hype about my longfic, the very first thing I ever published in tomarry. I was so pleasantly surprised how enthusiastic you were and how you constantly said so many kind things about it in TROR, and it definitely gave me such a confidence boost that someone out there, who randomly picked it up and read it cold, happened to like it!

the one where she is head over heels for him (harry / tom, 9k, G) – THIS WAS SO CUTE!!! I really liked how brazen and hysterically shameless Harry was about her crush on Tom. The best Harry and Tom dynamic is Harry annoying Tom half to death. Loved this fic so much!!

behind every great man (harry / voldemort, 25k, E) – Oh, this was a such a cool premise! A magically-powerful, older Harry coming back to Britain after spending her childhood overseas. She truly takes up the mantle of the Dark Lord’s equal. I also really liked the format of this fic – it starts off established relationship, and we gradually get glimpses of the backstory between Harry and Voldemort – I thought it was great that it jumped straight into the heart of the story!

the one where they meet at uni (harry / tom, 5k, E) – Aww this was an adorable college-setting enemies-to-lovers arc that ends in really hot smut. I loved the rom-com vibes here!

are there still beautiful things? (harry / voldemort, 50k, E) – I really liked the mental disintegration depicted in here, how Harry was completely broken down by her stay in Azkaban and subsequently built back up again by Voldemort’s attentions. The Stockholm syndrome in here was so good.

(guest rec by @limonium-anemos) the one where they grow up together (harry / tom, 65k, E) – a same age au fem!harry and tom who grow up together; from annoyed childhood friends to reluctant-then-ultimately-best-friends who eventually become even closer once they get to their hogwarts years. a good portion of the pov is written from harry's perspective, and you can see the development from tom as that annoying person to someone who becomes very important to her. the highlights are the way harry acts, processes, and confronts tom about his darker nature - one that she has noticed from a very long time but refuses to acknowledge (turning a blind eye from time to time) - and how tom is much more repentant since he has grown up with love (family and a real friendship but only with harry) but he still constantly makes mistakes that he often tries to lie and manipulate his way out of.

@metalomagnetic, the queen—no scratch that—the HIGH GODDESS of Voldemort rarepairs. The range of Voldemort-centric pairings that she covers is truly astonishing (clocking in at the longest Tomcest fic on AO3, the longest Sirimort fic on AO3, the longest Riddledore fic on AO3 — god, we are so blessed! What did we do to get this blessed?), not to mention writing one of the most iconic Harrymort fics that I’ve heard people on discord IN OTHER SHIPS who’ve never once read a Voldemort fic, ever, SCREAMING ABOUT.

Despite having written over a million words about Voldemort, each rendition of Voldemort still manages to be wholly unique, and each of them are so very compelling and full of bite and viciousness, and still so damn charismatic at the end of the day! (And he’s also funny, with a sharp and cutting sense of humor! Which is amazing! Fun fact – Canon Voldemort is also funny, which I sometimes forget because he’s also terrifying!) Each of the Voldemort characterizations is absolutely breathtaking and evocative – I’ve told Metalo that I sometimes wake up dreaming of things that have happened in her fics because that’s how deeply they’ve stuck around in my head!

On top of all of this, Metalo is a truly wonderful and nice person, so full of praise for everyone’s writing and so humble herself! Like seriously, so down to earth and humble! I love spotting Metalo’s compliments to other authors in the comment sections of fics — they’re always incredibly kind and generous and enthusiastic. In return, I have a compliment about Metalo’s writing too — her style is so clear and concise. The emotional beats land so well and are so powerful because the word usage is deliberately economical and crisp.

Everything on Metalo’s AO3 page is worth checking out, but here are a few fics that I adore and are absolutely unforgettable:

Either must die at the hand of the other (harry / voldemort, 260k, E) – An amazing post-war fic that explores what happens if Voldemort survives the war, and if Harry is unable to kill him. I cycled through every emotion reading this fic, from horror to extreme sorrow to horniness (okay, it has some very steamy and hot scenes) to contentment (at the happy ending). An absolute masterpiece/must-read for any tomarrymort fan.

Ouroboros (tom / voldemort, 258k, E) – I fell in love with Metalo’s writing from the moment I read this Tomcest fic which has A DOUBLE DOSE OF VOLDEMORT, and is such a fascinating dive into Voldemort’s psychology and what could have been different if Tom Riddle had been raised differently. It’s so incredibly sexy and has a wonderful happy ending for Tom and Voldemort.

Prison Blues (harry / voldemort, 48k, E) – I don’t even have the words to describe how hot this fic is. Alpha Harry. Omega Voldemort. Locked up in a mysterious prison together. Lots of heat and rut cycles ensue.

Dissonance (abraxas / tom, 17k, E) – Depicts an incredibly fraught and high-tension relationship between Abraxas Malfoy and Tom during their school days. They hate each other, but they’re also addicted to each other. Jarring and heartbreaking at times, but absolutely beautiful.

It runs in the blood (sirius / voldemort, 195k, E) – This is such a fun depiction of Sirius if he’d ended up embracing his dark (or at least grey!) side during the First Wizarding War. And Voldemort is fascinated by this errant Black as well, who obeys no rules and bows to no man/authority figure, just like Voldemort himself.

Beauty and the Beast (bellatrix / voldemort, 21k, E) – This is such a lovely ode to Voldemort and Bellatrix’s relationship, and is canon compliant too! You leave this fic completely understanding Voldemort’s fascination with Bella, and why she holds a special place in his ranks.

Today I reached a huge milestone- one million words published on A03. I can’t believe I wrote so much! Several novels- in fact, that’s almost as much as all the seven Harry Potter books. 

When I look at that number, I see a lot of work, many sleepless nights, many errors and typos, hours of editing; many days in which I didn’t feel like writing, but I did my best to do it. I also see a lot of fun, too, and a form of self-therapy that carried me through quite some terrible times.

In those words, I poured my joy, or my sorrow, my fantasies and fears; through them I allowed myself to explore these feelings in a creative way.

What is most incredible to me is that number, black on white, a *statistic*, gave me the opportunity to meet amazing people in this community. I feel like with every word, I reached out into the void of the internet, and sometimes people answered back. 

What a wonderful experience! A huge thank you to those of you that read some of these words. 

An even bigger thank you to all the writers out there that go through this process and make my days better with your own stories.

THREE IMPROVEMENTS:

i have learned to take my time with writing! i've done a lot more editing this year than i have in the past, painstakingly scrapping a lot more words than i used to. but i believe the end results are better and i'm happy with almost everything that has been posted this year 💕

i'm not sure if this can be stated as an improvement, though i'm sure some people will beg to differ, but i started writing more smut this year LOL

simply put, more writing = better 😌 practice doesn't make exactly perfect but it does produce visible results!

THREE IMPROVEMENTS:

i have learned to take my time with writing! i've done a lot more editing this year than i have in the past, painstakingly scrapping a lot more words than i used to. but i believe the end results are better and i'm happy with almost everything that has been posted this year 💕

i'm not sure if this can be stated as an improvement, though i'm sure some people will beg to differ, but i started writing more smut this year LOL

simply put, more writing = better 😌 practice doesn't make exactly perfect but it does produce visible results!

THREE IMPROVEMENTS

I let go of worrying about sounding repetitive while writing smut

Getting better at writing banter/dialogue and letting conversations flow more organically

Writing a smoother first draft that requires mayyyybe like 5-6 rounds of editing instead of 8-10 rounds

TWO RESOLUTIONS

Writing characters outside of the 2 main characters in the ship — my stories almost never feature characters outside of the main ship, but I want to get better at writing secondary characters and breathing more life into them

Writing with a greater depth of emotion — my characters usually alternate between 1 of 2 emotion states for the entire fic - horny or flailing about for our amusement. It's more difficult for me to tap into a deeper well of emotion rather than just writing light & easy to consume entertainment (even if it's dead-dove fic, I've kept things more surface-level in terms of emotionally descriptive writing), but I will TRY this year to put pen to paper on emotions like grief and hurt, and all-consuming obsession, and rage, and desperation, and feelings that go deeper than just 'horny'.

But soon enough, just like their creator and just like the first horcrux-child they had been modeled off of, they wanted more from Harry. They wanted every inch of his skin, every pound of his flesh; they wanted to consume him, body and soul, just like the first Tom had done.
