AirTask tutorial
The plugin AirTask has, like many of the *task plugins, zero help. Fortunately I've been able to get the file transfer from device to device working, so here's a quick tutorial. 1. Download AirTask on both devices. 2. On each device, name the local device and note its IP address (or BT mac address if you are not on the same router/Hotspot). 3. Click Other Devices, then the FAB to add a new device. 4. In remote name, use the exact Local name, then fill out IP /Bluetooth MAC address (whichever is preferred). 5. You can add the Quick Setting now from AirTask to turn on Wifi/BT listening, or use Tasker to turn it on. Now you should be able to share files between devices!

Using AutoNotification and AutoTools, I created a little floating button to control media for any music player. More + project at link.

Oof
Long time no talk, I keep forgetting to update. I've pretty much settled on ResurrectionRemix - I also like Liquid Remix, but I have set up RR just as I like.
Substratum is slightly dodgy in the latest build unfortunately, but I think I've worked around this for now. (I really love being able to theme stuff, some even have neat icons.)

No oreo
Well the multirom app hasn't been updated to work with Oreo so I uninstalled it. Going to try another Ground zero ROM, Tesla. It's 7.1 but I'll give it a try.

Multi ROM
I learned a few days ago about MULTI-ROM booting, so I grabbed a couple of files and flashed them. My old Recovery wasn't making and/or restoring backups properly, so this is cool. I like Validus and Nitrogen the best so far, so those are the ones I've installed.

I Rom around the world
Tried Dirty Unicorns and then Ground Zero's Validus, as I was told it had full OMS/Substratum support. Running Validus rn. The only thing I don't like is you can't change LTE to 4G in the status bar. Also, xposed crashes if you install via Magisk.

ROMming
I decided to try out a few ROMs, mainly to try out Android 8.1, and I kind of like it. There are some things that I specifically miss from Oxygen (default OS of OnePlus devices), but there are a lot of nice little changes.
I tried out AOSP Extended first, but the maintainer insisted what I wanted was impossible. (Something that's built in to Oxygen.) So I'm on Nitrogen OS now, because I thought it was based on Oxygen. Not sure if it is, but it has one of the features I wanted.
Basically these ROMs just have built-in conveniences that stock doesn't. The only inconvenience is that they can't include Google apps, but this is easily repaired by Open GApps. It took a while to get the right version, but I did.
Might try out another one! Whee!

Not willing to settle for the ‘touch twice to reboot’ developer menu on the OnePlus 3T, I made my own in Tasker.

Some of my tasks
Useful: depending on my Bluetooth connection, I change the volume of the phone. Also for YouTube.
Change brightness if it's night or day time. Also if connected to wifi, or outside.
A widget that is able to detect which music player I'm using, and pause/resume it.
Turn on/off my Hotspot if I'm at home or not.
Change the lockscreen timeout period to the maximum at home, so I can turn off the screen then turn it back on without having to unlock it. (even Smartlock does the swipe lock)
Fun: when I wake up and turn on my screen, it speaks the weather forecast, and shows a local webcam view of the city (bedroom window view is of trees).
I also built my own weather notification, with my own icons, using the Dark Sky API included with AutoWeb.
In the car, my texts are read out loud, as is the title of the track I'm listening to. Also these happen at home if the screen is off.
I have a web site that I used to read, but it no longer updates as frequently, so I check it every week for an update. If updated, a notification pops up, if clicked it opens the link to the update.
A notification that shows my current in milliAmps when charging.
A task to find my parked car, with walking directions.
My alarm turns on two hours before a calendar event. Then an hour later, it retrieves the travel time, and sets up a timer for the latest I should leave by. If I'm in the car, it will show directions; otherwise it gets very annoying.

Terminal wonder
One of my favorite tasks is one that takes a link to YouTube, downloads and converts it to an MP3. It uses both Tasker and Termux. If you want any kind of automation of audio, video or images, Termux scripts are much simpler than Java code. I was experimenting with an audio leveling program, it was amazing. I've also converted web pages into podcasts.

Spot that hot
One of the more annoying things people are complaining about (in Tasker forums at least) is the fact that in Nougat and Oreo, nothing can be done to turn on a Hotspot without root (or running one of those auto-clicky apps). But even with root it's not as easy as it seems.
First off I got the new plugin for Tasker to enable Hotspot access in Nougat, and I tested it out, but it said it would have to be installed as a system app. So I decided to try, just to try, Tasker's built-in enabler, and it worked fine. Huh.
Of course as soon as I got to 8.0 it wouldn't work anymore, and neither did Secure Settings, but that plugin did, without having to run as root or anything!

I <3 1+ 3T
I was like a kid in a candy store after I checked out that the IMEI was clean. BOOM all my stuff, BOOM let's root it, BOOM Xposed, BOOM Adblock! Not sure that it was actually that easy but now, I've got Oreo running smoothly with Substratum giving me everything with a black background. AMOLED tastes so good in black.
Skip the rest if you don't want to know why it took literally three days to get here.
First of all, the person who owned the phone didn't actually put it in factory condition, nor did my friend who got it at a pawn shop. Not only were there tons of photos and music and apks, but also the bootloader was unlocked.
I thought that was OK, but it took me over an hour to realize that the system image hadn't been updated from when it was rooted back to stock, and not merely the boot image. So I had to actually factory restore by flashing TWRP then the 1.5GB ROM for OOS 4.5.1.
Which triggered DM Verity bc I got rid of every password I saw.
I went so crazy installing root backed apps that when I tried to flash the 8.0 update, it was unable to push out my Hotspot. That is, it looked like it was working, but no other device could see it.
So I reverted back to 7.1, and then some other app screwed up my system so bad that I disabled my sensors and couldn't get them back with the previous backup.
At which point I was like fuck this
So, after wiping everything outside my sdcard, I decided on the thing to do: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72579097&postcount=2
As described in the post, I downgraded to a previous version of the OS that allows you to turn off one of the warning messages on reboot, turned off the message in the bootloader, and then returned to recovery. I went ahead and flashed the updated version of the OS, then a patched boot file that wouldn't make the warning pop up again. And then another module that lets you keep your shit unencrypted.
Lo and behold, my sensors and Hotspot were behaving! I was all excited.
Flashed an older version of the root program since see above, I was wary for some reason.
Thought I could just install the new root over that but I couldn't get it to boot.
By the way there are three states of not booting on this thing:
Fastboot only
Boot animation goes on forever
Bootloop where you can almost start but then immediately starts over right away
I did manage to get a not-newest but-newer version installed at least, and everything has been mostly fine after that.

More Tasker stuff my phone does: • automatically texts Reg as I'm leaving work to let him know, and opens up my bus schedule app • reads texts out loud if headphones are plugged in • pops up a menu of media apps when headphones are plugged in • keeps GPS off unless map programs are launched • turns volume down at home, except for Alarms and specified callers • randomly changes wallpaper from 15 in a folder every 30 minutes • pushes brightness to 100% if I'm going to watch Netflix/video • my own widgets that toggle between WiFi on/off, Airplane mode, GPS on/off, "night" mode • a Reboot one-click icon
me, 2014, two weeks after I bought Tasker
