I have zero linux experience as of last week and I'm currently trying to install arch linux on my old phone through a termux proot and the "useradd -m -G wheel <username here>" command from the video I'm watching isn't working. I am about to lose the last remaining shard of my last broken marble.

I stare shamefully at the technological rectangle, with text asking for elaboration, as it lists countless other commands relating to accounts, while I eat raw hot chocolate packets and try not to dissolve into a puddle on the floor.

I use termux. It has a lot of things packaged. I also managed to build opam + ocaml (but not dune yet :( )

We now have a fairly minimal Debian environment running through Termux, partly with the goal of getting Rust to work. Which it doesn't want to through Termux itself.

I took the lazy way out, and went for this approach courtesy of yet another kind stranger on Github.

Of course, there's already a perfectly good Debian box in the house, but that's not as much fun and I can't exactly lug it around in my pocket.

Android phones are superior in every way and im saying this simply because of the fact that i can run my own web server from my phone.

Touchscreen integration with vi on a phone turns out to be really nice UX actually. (I'm using Termux+Emacs+Evil.)

Unlike a mouse, your fingers are already right there on the touch screen. The travel distance is much lower, barely more than typing.

You can put the cursor on exactly the target line without line counting or picking a search string or whatever motion. Drag to scroll. It's a nice option, faster in some cases, and often mentally lighter.

Its really been quite the experience using a texas iphone to code this phone is so big that its absolutely changed everything and has made coding feel like im playing a video game.

Update on running arch on my phone.

The video I was watching had some scripts to make your phone boot directly into desktop. But I wanted to be able to swap between Android and Arch, so now I've got a user added with a password, that has super user controls through nano /etc/sudoers, but I don't know how to set up hyperland and switch between it and Android.

I have gone clinically insane now.

Fitting, for trying Arch and Hyperland on an old A21 through a Termux PRoot as my first linux experience.

لكن ما هوا termux وفيما يستعمل , حسناً دعني اجيبك بشكل مبسط تيرمكس اوامر termux هوا تطبيق عبارة عن Terminal اي سطر اوامر مبني على اللنكس من خلاله يمكنك تحميل ادوات الأختراق او وتشغيل سكربتات بللغات برمجيه مختلفه مثل Paython وغيرها فهوا شبيه الى حد ما في نظام Kali linux ولكن تيرمكس يعمل على الهاتف اي لست بحاجه الى جهاز كمبيوتر اوامر termux للاختراق .

أوامر Termux لأنشاء ملفات والتنقل بينها

touch لأنشاء ملف جديد cat أنشاء ملف جديد بمحتوى echo “hello world” انشاء ملف جديد وكتابه بداخله cat >> [file name] – اضافه محتوى في ملف موجود مسبقاً mkdir [name] – انشاء فولدر او ملف جديد

أوامر النسخ واللصق Termux

cp لنسخ الملفات cp -r لنسخ الملف في اي مسار mv يستعمل لنقل الملفات من مسار الى اخر mv -v يستعمل لنقل اي ملف mv [file1 name] نقل واعادة تسميع الملف mv -i التحريك والكتابه فوق الملف mv -f – نقل الملف والكتابه فوقه بشكل اجباري

أوامر التنقل بين الملفات  Termux

cd يستخدم لتنقل بين الملفات cd / يستعمل للرجوع الى ملف الروت cd .. لرجوع خطوة الى الخلف

In other news, I did also get a minimal XFCE desktop up and running on this phone through Termux. (And MultiVNC.)

Actually doing much useful with it is a project for another day. I already ran into a couple of snags, not too surprisingly.

But, at least we do have a mostly working graphical Frankenlinux environment going now, running on top of Not-Quite-Android. Which is pretty fun in itself.
