my definitive thoughts on the ethel cain situation

for the past few days I’ve become very outspoken about the problems in the ethel cain fandom right now but I’ve been having an internal whirlwind of thoughts about it myself. I’ve been very conflicted on how I’d like to move forward with my art because on one hand I’ve had this deeply rooted artistic connection with the story of ethel cain that’s become an unstoppable force of motivation and comfort for me for the past year. on the other hand I feel extremely icky about the whole situation and can’t really think about it the same way anymore. another thing that’s been bothering me is the fandoms reaction to this situation. the racism, the transphobia, the carelessness. it’s genuinely disgusting and I definitely don’t want to be in a community where that is the norm. I’ve seen many people of color saying they forgive (but not forget of course!) Hayden’s past actions but cannot let themselves continue in the fandom because of how the fandom reacted. I want all the people that feel there’s no place for them in the fandom to know my art and my blog will always be a safe place for you to share your positive and negative thoughts on ethel cain :)

I’ve got a lot of big projects that I’m more than halfway done with that id feel very sad to abandon. I will continue them on my own for the sake of accomplishment but may or may not post them. It will take me time to decide how/if I want to continue In this fandom so once I finish my projects I will most likely be taking a break.

I’m going to be deleting a few posts about the whole controversy (not because I’ve changed my mind). the whole thing has been very overwhelming for me and I’m sure others feel overwhelmed too. I’m making this post so people can access my thoughts without having to scroll through piles of posts :) I want everyone to know that I’m trying to take everyone’s feelings into account, especially poc! I’ve heard many people saying that they don’t forgive hayden which I completely understand. I’ve also seen many say the opposite. I was hoping that asking you guys would give me some definitive answer on what direction to take but of course every person is different and I know it’s something I will have to decide for myself.

everyone who sent me your thoughts on the whole thing, thank you so much! I’ve read everything, even if I haven’t posted it. I’m sure you all know how I feel about it by now but I want to make it clear there’s no space for racism and transphobia on my blog. my art is simply not for you.

also there are LOTS of hateful people sending anonymous messages in my inbox. I’m having trouble figuring out if they’re referring to me or referring to others in the fandom but I do want to clarify that the only people I’ve been blocking are the fans saying that they don’t care about racism and they think it’s funny. if you are a person of color saying you can’t forgive hayden for what she’s said, I want to hear you!!! It’s extremely important to me what you guys are thinking just don’t be a racist jerk.
