Paranormal investigator, Dan Rivera, has died while on tour with the real Annabelle doll.
That being said...
It's tacky and tasteless to treat this like a conjuring movie premise and to scold anyone for going on tour with the doll like they did something incredibly dangerous and foolhardy.
The Warrens took that doll on tour with them MANY times before The Conjuring movies made that doll's name famous.
The Warrens (in paranormal investigative circles) were known con artists. They have cases that will likely never be adapted into movies that portray them as noble, spiritual, heroes, because they were obvious shams- like when they exorcised a "werewolf."
That doll (which is just an over-sized, floppy, Raggedy Anne doll) has been on the road before. She wasn't kept in some secret vault in The Vatican. She wasn't buried under Poenari Castle. She was kept in a glass display case under eerie red lighting as spooky music played, in the Warrens personal museum. They had charged admission for people to see her. There were even rumors that when the doll was taken on tour, they would rig her display case to vibrate and make faint "Godzilla noises."
It's tacky and tasteless to imply that the doll killed Dan Rivera for a spooky headline. Jason Hawes of TAPS has honorably made a statement saying as much.
Dan's family knows details we do not, so don't turn his death into a creepy meme diminishing his career.
It's behavior like this that does a serious disservice to legitimate attempts at parapsychology and paranormal investigations.

If you give this woman money, it will go to transphobic causes. If you give this woman a platform, she will use it to boost transphobic causes. This isn't a "well nobody's perfect" or "well x other creator also did something bad once" situation, this is an inordinate amount of influence for a creator to have, and supporting her by word or wallet actively hurts trans people.

Clergy in the Archdiocese of Denver are divided over the handling of a controversial “blood oath” ceremony involving a vice rector and seminarians during a ski trip last year. A group of seminarians studying at Denver’s St. John Vianney Theological Seminary were taken on the trip in January 2024 by then-vice rector of the seminary, Fr. John Nepil, during which they were woken in the middle of the night and invited individually to swear a “blood oath” in a ceremony involving a dagger and a man in a yeti costume. During the bizarre ceremony, video of which was sent to The Pillar by multiple sources in the archdiocese, seminarians were told to scream as if in pain before returning with a bloodied cloth wrapped around their hand and their mouths taped shut, to a room where others waited for their turn to be brought in. The Archdiocese of Denver, in a statement to The Pillar, characterized the event as a “farce” and said that “it was, however, part of a deeply imprudent and inappropriate prank,” and that a full investigation had been completed. “The individual responsible has since been removed from his seminary leadership role and has recommitted to his ongoing personal and spiritual formation,” the archdiocese said. The fallout of the event has divided students, faculty, and clergy in the diocese, with videos and images of the event circulating for several months. Fr. Nepil told The Pillar he had “acknowledged [his] imprudence, apologized to the archbishop and the seminarians involved,” and said that while the event was intended as a “prank,” he took responsibility for what had happened.

I'm already fucking exhausted of how Gavin Newsom has decided that the best way to get political prestige is "The same reality tv sideshow bullshit that Trump did just more centrist about it" and I'm already exhausted of the media acting like that's worth covering.
Tumblr media
If y'all want to settle this in a steel cage or whatever, fine, but I wish we weren't watching this fascist bullshit tear up what few social safety nets we have while this is the pushback that gets headlines. Fuck this shit, it's a clown show either way, why can't we have people with actual ideas to help out get news coverage instead?
