Asuka had never liked her. They were rivals, sure, but that was only because Rae had made the proclamation so aggressively and Asuka didn’t say no because why would she? How could she? Every good trainer needed a rival to push them and so she had merely gone along with Rae being her rival. It was a mistake to do so.

She should’ve just said no. Should’ve said ‘you can find someone else’ because by now it was obvious Rae wasn’t really a rival. She was a bully. It was in the way she talked down on Asuka even when Asuka was clearly the more talented trainer between the two like she couldn’t accept the fact the person she thought so little of, thought was an easy feat.

Was actually better than her.

The way she made fun of Asuka’s fear of canine Pokémon even though she was trying to work through that by catching a Houndour. But Asuka didn’t tell Rae otherwise because this is something all trainers did. Right? Having someone against you like this made you stronger. That boy in Kanto had a really self-absorbed and sometimes cocky rival. She knew about it because who didn’t know about Red? So if Red dealt with an annoying guy like Blue…why should Asuka cut Rae off for doing what she’s supposed to.

Even if Rae had made her cry more than once with some of the things she said not just about Asuka herself but her Pokémon.

Staring in the mirror now with bandages covering almost the entire left side of her face Asuka only now wished she had just turned Rae down. This was never a rivalry. It was a tormentor and their victim.

Because a rival didn’t purposely have their Pokémon corner you.

They didn’t choose a Pokémon you’re afraid of specifically.

They didn’t laugh as you shouted “It’s not funny!! Tell it to go away!!” they didn’t tell their Pokémon to use a move on a goddamn human being. let their Pokémon’s teeth sink into your face, into your eye specifically. Such sharp teeth and you feel everything.

Asuka stretched as if doing a warm-up for exercises before reaching for one of the pokeballs on her belt, an almost over-confident smirk on her face. “ I hope you know, lady. I always win!! Haven’t met my match yet! You might as well hand over my badge already. “ The pokeball was tossed into the air and with a bright flash a Houndoom was on the battlefield. “ Hades! Ready? “

Houndoom may not be everyone’s first choice, some would prefer Talonflame or Pyroar but Asuka had always chosen to battle with the Pokémon she liked best. This was going to be her fourth gym badge and with her best fire type in the lead against a grass type gym leader it was sure to be an easy sweep.

Or so she thought. The first Pokémon the gym leader sent out was a Venusaur and Asuka was aware of the bulk and strength a Pokémon like that possessed but it wasn’t too much to worry about. She always won.

Always.

It’s not really a loaded question at least for me. But one of the elite four was a member of Team Flare. I don’t exactly like having someone like that in our Pokémon League.

I completely understand! Tourism can be so annoying. Oh? Kalos’ gym challenge is nice. It hasn’t changed a lot from when I did it aside from two new gym leaders. The gym leaders here specialize in Bug, Rock, Fighting, Grass, Electric, Fairy, Psychic & Ice. In order.

My only grievance lies with the elite four.

Alola?? I’d love to go there someday! That and Johto. I heard about that! Alola does that instead of the usual league challenge. You have to do trials before battling the Captain, I think that sounds like an interesting change of pace.

I remember once meeting this really tall guy and I was like astonished. What did his mother feed him. Was expecting a battle but he just needed directions.
