Once again, I find myself in the infirmary, though despite Warden Yūgao’s insistences, I feel that the reason this time is far less frivolous than usual. Unfortunately, the injury is far more serious- it is likely that I will be unable to walk far for quite some time. I have been told that my pelvis is fractured. This is not surprising, but it is painful and irritating. Still, I believe it was worth it.

I was sent to forage in the icelands. While I was told of the Alpha Garchomp that makes its territory in this area, I believed that I was outside of its range- unfortunately, I was not. At first, I thought I was rather lucky, as it did not seem to notice me, but it was not good luck for me. Rather, it was bad luck for some poor Gligar, who the Alpha Garchomp was focused on defeating, presumably to eat. While I am no longer squeamish about hunting and butchering Pokemon for sustenance, something about seeing a Pokemon that normally sports a distinctive grin no longer “smiling” wounded my heart.

What I did next was foolish, I will admit. I should have thrown snowballs to stun the Alpha Garchomp. I was not thinking. Instead, I ran directly to it. The next time I see Warden Hamarenge*, I will be sure to thank him, though he may not appreciate the implication that his self defense lessons emboldened me to punch an Alpha Garchomp in the snout. This did work to temporarily stun it, and the Gligar immediately took the opportunity to flee. I was not as quick as him. The Garchomp grabbed me in its mouth and, to tell the Truth, I thought that I would die right there. Thankfully, the Gligar had not fled far. Perhaps he felt indebted to me, because he attached the Garchomp, causing it to drop me.

The two of us were able to flee, if only barely. The cold atmosphere of the icelands seems to slow even such a swift Pokemon as Garchomp, and a mixture of Mud Bombs and snowballs eventually convinced it to leave us alone. As I write this, he clings to my shoulders, watching as if he can read the words I am writing. He was wary at first when Warden Yūgao began to inspect my injuries, and became angry when it became apparent that her treatment was causing me pain, though I managed to calm him. I shall have to remember to ask her what is in the poultice that she applied to the bite mark, though I am certain that she will tell me anyways, considering my track record with injury.

If nothing else, it soothes my heart to finally have a Pokemon as a companion. While it is not all that common in the Pearl Clan, I have often felt jealous at the sight of Clan Leader Kai^ with her Eevee, or Warden Yūgao with her Bidoof. Perhaps, wherever I was before Hisui, I too had a Pokemon as my partner. Perhaps they are even wondering where I am. I am uncertain if the naming of Pokemon is a common practice here, but it feels right to me to do so. I feel that I should consider the matter more carefully, but for now, when I look at this Gligar’s smiling face, only one name comes to mind: Em. Perhaps this shall suffice.

Oh yeah, I watched it when I was younger! It's very good as far as dragon type based shows go but I liked the first series better tbh.

This is a side tangent but the fictionalized dragon types in Drake's Dragonology book are still the gold standard for dragon media imo. Loved it immensely as a kid and really enjoyed reading up on the actual myths and scientific findings that inspired it. Also it's still kind of funny to me that most people know him as an Elite Four member but I first got to know him as a children's book author so I was really surprised to find out he works with Steven and Wallace.

Does anyone have any good Banetteflix recommendations? I can only watch Star Trek so many times.

History Fact

In the 1700s, an anonymous writer traveled to Sinnoh, Alola, and Kanto to write fairy tales told throughout those regions. The books were known as, “Secret Blooming Land” about a Whimmsicott following a Shaymin into a secret fantasy land, “Mystic Song under the Moon” about a Primarina who finds a group of Clefairy and Umbreon and goes on a journey with them to give power to her songs, and “Shadows in Haunted Mansion” about a young boy who sneaks into a haunted house and gets tricked by a Gengar and other Ghost type Pokemon. The books became very popular and are still common fairy tales told by children to this day.

As someone who is on the other end of a similar situation: I've always tried to care for my Applin as good as I can but especially right after it was clear that I wouldn't be in contact with the other person I sadly have to admit that I wasn't the best caretaker for him. People generally tend to have mixed feelings about Pokémon they got from an ex-partner, especially if it's an explicitly romantic symbol like an Applin. Even though at this point I would never give up Tristan, back then I would have gladly given him back if I had the opportunity.

I think anon should just bite the bullet and ask for Crisp back directly. Chances are, that their ex would be glad to have the extra responsability of taking care of an additional mon taken off his shoulders.

I regret giving my ex an Applin between classes. I gave him one with a cute lil bow on it and called it Crisp for him. I wish for Crisp back :(

Toxel Facts

-Toxels are known to be kinda bratty and throw loud tantrums when they don't get what they want. Playing loud music can help calm them down

-Since Toxel aren't fast or strong, they will hide themselves in bushes or tall grass and wait for unsuspecting bug pokemon to crawl near them, and poison them to eat

-Toxels use aposematism, which is when organisms have a bright color scheme to show predators, "Hey! I'm poisons! Don't eat me!"

-Because of the numbing poison combined with static they secrete, trainers should wear gloves when handling them, as handling them for too long can cause paralysis

-Toxel usually live by themselves, with Toxtricity leaving nests right after their eggs are laid

-Toxel waste is black (it also smells a lot worse than most poison types, and as much as I love them, I do not enjoy caring for them much)

-The special organ that filters dirty water for Toxel when drinking is called the "Venenlutus." It's located near their throat

-The wrinkles over Toxel's eyes help them see far away better

-The horns on Toxel have two functions; the first one is as a warning to predators because spikes=dangerous to a lot of species, and the second one is to sense and feel sound waves better

-Toxel snot and spit is purple

-Their poison sacs and electricity sacs are in the similar shape of an eggplant

-If a predator somehow gets past their poison, Toxel will let out an ear splitting cry and swing their arms around spouting poison everywhere in order to get the fo to go away

Hey Quill! I have to ask-I've done a lot of research into Hisui and I still can't figure out where Alpha pokemon have gone-if they haven't just changed into something else-or what happened to most of the Hisuian forms of pokemon like-uh-Samurott for example! Could you give me any answers?

This is a really interesting ask!

I'm actually not fully sure where Alpha Pokemon went, but I've seen theories between multiple researchers.

One theory says that Alpha Pokemon just naturally died out. Since Pokemon were evolving to be more friendly, these Pokemon didn't need to be so big and aggressive.

A more violent theory is that all of them were hunted to extinction, which seems more likely, as there are a lot of old texts of "needing to hunt these dangerous beasts." Either way, both theories are interesting, but we can't really confirm since a lot of Hisuian history is quite fuzzy.
