Intro

The time to get back to school, get organized and back into our routines is soon to come, and I am trying to do my part in making that a bit easier. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice. It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas, for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry and in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does. She has to give it a shot somehow. Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world. Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who read understand that all things must come to end, but that you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two. Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series. If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are. You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype. You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots. Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. the mouth thing

Hey bellarke fam I just wanna put my two cents out there about this very detrimental 5 second clip. are we actually going to write a meta about an actor opening his mouth yes yes we are

Everyone seems to like the idea that he’s going to say something here, and I really like that idea too. 

What could it be? His love/feelings/appreciation for Clarke? It literally cannot be anything else considering the hand holding that just happened and the words of comfort exchanged and THE LOOKS. HIS GAZE. OMG HIS GAZE when she fiRST GRABS HIS HAND and he STARES AT HER LOVINGLY and his EYES.

Like, what else is someone gonna think about/want to talk about after the person they were just outed as having strong feelings toward just holds your hand and strokes your fingers and tends to your wounds. You’re not gonna be all “bro what a fuckin night amiright sheesh”

No. I will bet all my rocks on he was drowning in love in this moment. It could be romantic love, and probably is a little bit, but I think it’s mostly just that pure love you have for someone who actually makes your life easier to bare. Platonic love, that gem.

.And Bellamy wears his heart on his sleeve. He literally cannot keep his feelings inside that’s who he is. I think he feels something so strongly for Clarke here that he’s about to say something. Not admit outright his feelings, but at least say something appreciative - “I missed you” or SOMETHING.

 But It’s not the right moment to talk about his feelings for her, and definitely not if he brings it up, so he chooses not to say anything. 

Alie already said he’s more devoted to Clarke then he was to Gina. It’s a very touchy subject. He’s already anxious that he cares more for Clarke then she does for him. His feelings for Clarke are one of his weaknesses, at least one of the newer ones. A fresher scar. It’s something he’s still unsure of, and very afraid of.

Yet after all this I have to admit that I have a conflicting meta. When I first saw 3x11, I didn’t think he was going to say something here. I thought he was sighing. And since I haven’t seen anyone bring this interpretation up I just wanted to get it out there too.

I can talk for days about any given bellarke scene and interpret it in so many ways so I think it’s perfectly fine to have several different variations in the meaning you take from a scene.

Look at the way he’s looking at her here after he asks her, “What do you do when you realize you’re not the good guy.” (ty seriesparadise for the gif)

He looks like he’s waiting for her to relieve him of the tension he feels. His eyes are wide, locked on hers and searching. He’s intense here. Very serious.He knows Clarke can give him an answer that will help him out a little. He’s opening up to her, asking for advice.

And after Clarke gives him what he needs to hear - exactly what he needs to hear - he does the mouth thing. And to me it just seemed like he was sighing in relief as well as gazing at her in adoration. Like he just cannot believe Clarke is so perfect that she can give him exactly what he needs, Clarke had once again taken his messy worries and unanswered questions and neatly folded them and gave him an answer. They always do this for each other. They release the pressure and stress off the other. 

So anyway in conclusion everything hurts and I’m dead and I’ll only be revived next thursday at 9pm eastern standard time thanks for reading
