this is not confirmed by anything, but lately it seems to me that the mention of anesthesia in "Hyperdontia" may be a metaphor for drugs.

judge for yourself - it is sung that "i'm 'bout to shut down under anesthesia". that is, the human body is harmed by drugs. "i don't feel the pain anymore" - despite the harm, the lyrical character still continues to use, because they no longer feels pain, which means such relief is better.
