My cozy corner of (mostly) Star Wars pondering. Mainly CodyWan. Pro-Jedi, Pro-Clones, SW Prequel Trilogy supremacy. Teaching stuff. She/her, 30s.

Repairing the floor in the classroom in the middle of the semester? Why not, indeed.
Waiting until summer break – mission failed.

I noticed that in Timothy Zahn’s books all his original characters somehow look smarter/more capable than canon characters. Esp in The Hand of Thrawn duology.
While political negotiations Leia looks like an unexperienced girl comparing to Pellaeon. Leia! 37-year-old Leia, a former President of the New Republic and a current Councilor! Who was an Ambassador at 19! Also for some inexplicable reason, Leia, a lady flame, now stutters, makes embarrassing mistakes, and all her intentions are written all over her face. A girl, who held herself confident in front of Darth Vader!
Mara Jade obviously knows more about Jedi-ing than Master Luke Skywalker. Mara, who worked for the Emperor for all her life and half-assed her Jedi training at Luke’s Academy. This woman is definitely wiser and knows about Luke everything better than Luke himself, and in all doesn’t treat him well. Luke, on the other hand, acts as a 19-year-old Tatooinian farmboy, despite him growing into a mature man in ROTJ – blushes, makes rushed emotional judgement and acts on his attachments as if not learning better from his own mistakes during the OT and not wizening under Obi-Wan’s and Yoda’s tutelages. Also she claims that Luke is tainted by the Dark Side, while she was never truly a Darksider despite working for Palpatine. Yes, it’s explained as ‘she never did it for selfish reasons’, but I actually don’t believe it. After all, you never work for somebody explicitly evil and never become touched by the darkness, too.
Also a pet peeve – their love story was unclear to me, and I didn’t understand when it suddenly turned into great love when there was disliking/nothing. And kissing an unconscious girl is an assault, even if the kiss is loving and tender.
I have no qualms for Thrawn – he’s designed to be a genius. I believe only in Thrawn as the smartest in the room. Not everyone else of Zahn’s OCs.

‘Do or do not, there is no try’ is actually a very valid advice. It doesn’t take much analyzing to understand that it means ‘don’t half-ass things, but do them the best of your abilities’. It means you should put all of your effort into doing smth. ‘Try’ in this statement stands for ‘doing half-heartedly, without actually applying any abilities and powers’.
The advice seems pretty obvious. I don’t understand how anyone can interpret it as ‘Yoda doesn’t appreciate Luke’s efforts’. The guy almost outright says he’s half-assing his assignment, refusing to believe he can do it. But if you don’t believe you can do it = you don’t do your best thinking you’ll fail anyway = you most likely to fail or not to get the result you want.
Yoda actually explains where Luke’s mistake is and demonstrates it with his own example, encouraging Luke to do the same.

During state exams the headmistress, a 70-smth y.o. woman, says we (the teachers taking the exam) should be kinder to boys. There are almost exclusively girls in the (linguistic) college, so be softer to them.
Fuck it! so we should be hard on girls and soft on boys? Blatant sexism!

Poor students who freak out during their state exams. Not the first occasion when they a) cry b) have shaking hands c) have almost panic attacks. IMO, if there’s an ounce of knowledge in the head, you’ll pass the exam, so no need to worry, but, of course, no one can control the feelings.
