I’ve just rewatched “Does This Duckbill Make Me Look Fat?” and it’s funny to imagine that people who didn’t watch/don’t remember this episode might see these screenshots and freak out that it looks like they found out Perry’s secret
But nope Candace and Perry accidentally switched bodies when both went through a teleportation device at the same time
I know it’s a common trope in cartoons to do this type of episode and that when it happens the characters will keep their original voices as to not confuse the viewers but I kinda wish we could’ve seen Candace in Perry’s body only able to chatter and for Perry in Candace’s body to be able to speak in her voice (but only one line)
Tumblr media
But that’s a just random thought I had and if I’m honest I do like that the show limits Perry from really “speaking” or how he’ll have only a few moments where he’ll write something down
He’s like Ferb in that sense! Both are rectangular shaped characters that only “talk” when they have something they want to say! (No wonder they’re my top 2 favorite characters)

The thing is: Simon being revealed to be gay is really cliché. We’ve all seen it before, the bully who goes after the gay kid because he has a crush and doens’t know how to handle or confront that. Been there, done that. So it got me thinking: why do I find it so impactful when Dead Boy Detectives pulled it?
Because it doesn’t matter.
Simon doesn’t feel like he was revealed to be gay as a way to expose “hidden depth,” which is why this move often feels cheap to me. It’s not used to justify his actions, and he is not excused for them. The narrative makes no apologies for his behavior. He murdered Edwin and the narrative underscores that
Instead, Simon being gay matters simply because it matters to Edwin, and that’s why this scene works. The revelation does not change how the audience is meant to feel about Simon; you maybe understand him better, but that is all. However, it changes everything for Edwin, because he’s recontextualizing all of these memories from when he was alive. The scene works because it allows Edwin to see himself in Simon, and to forgive himself for being gay and for being lonely. It’s not about Simon. It was never about Simon. It’s about what this knowledge about Simon means to Edwin.

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

I read a lot of advice columns for fun and one recently stuck with me. A man’s girlfriend had left him because she felt unloved. He found her beautiful, but didn’t think she was “hot” - in fact, had never found anyone hot, ever, in his life. He loved her for her personality, and struggled to be as effusive about her body as she was about his. Her feelings were hurt and she left.
The columnist gave a great answer about the importance of compatibility and being with people whose modes of showing affection align with yours, but the comments sort of gutted me. Many people didn’t believe that the man could love his girlfriend without being sexually attracted to her. They suggested that no one should ever be in such a relationship, that it was cruel and heartless to date someone without sexual attraction. They insinuated that something must be wrong with the boyfriend, medically, causing a low libido. Or that he was gay and in denial.
I just wish we lived in a world in which asexuality was widely understood and accepted.

You can say “You don’t need AI to do your work for you” and someone will respond “So you hate disabled people who can’t do everything 100% independently?”
