I am not this anon, but I have seen people do this and I'll throw in my 2 cents about this for people who genuinely aren't sure which to tag, especially since the headcanon that Hermitcraft and the Life Series exist in the same universe (multiverse?) is a VERY popular one.

If you are writing a Life Series focused fic set in Hermitcraft and/or Hermitcraft characters* appear, you should always tag for both SMPs.

If you are writing a Life Series fic that doesn't mention Hermitcraft and includes no Hermitcraft characters, you should tag for Life Series only.

If you are writing a Life Series focused fic where Hermitcraft/Hermitcraft characters are mentioned, tag for Life Series in the fandom category because that is the focus and either put something like "mentions of Hermitcraft" in the additional tags or author's note

Remember that AO3 is not a social media platform (at least in the traditional sense) and tags are to let people know what's in your fic so they can find what they like and avoid what they don't, not to increase your visibility and get more clicks :)

*Hermitcraft characters here refers to people that are exclusive to Hermitcraft and do not appear in the Life Series (ex: Xisuma), not to characters who appear in both (ex: Grian).

It’s gotten to a point with fanfic reading that I’ll exclude the hermitcraft tag when reading life series fics and vise versa. No, your ranchers fic set in a mafia au should not be tagged with hermitcraft, I don’t care that Tango is a hermit, they’re both life series players first.

My main problem drives from people tagging it as a hermitcraft fic when they only focus on life series players. Unless it’s a mafia au that sets on a specific season of hermitcraft then sure tag it a a hermitcraft fic. But in the majority of cases, keep it to the life series.

I have life series and Hunger Games posts on my dash in equal measure right now, and sometimes it takes me a second to tell which is which and I think that's great.

I love how when you add anyone to Pearl, Scott, and Cleo's dynamic the group name is just "the # G's". Add Impulse? That's 4 G's. Add BigB? 5 G's.

Is there a limit to this phenomenon? Like, "Welcome to the Life Series, I'm here with the 18 G's-"

I've seen people interpret Joel brushing off Etho's "I love you" in Secret Life is an example of Joel being bad with feelings and communication. And like. Joel is absolutely bad with feelings and communication, but to be fair, Etho walking up to Joel and going "I love you" with a crowd of people behind him giggling is the most "My friends dared me to say I like you as a joke" scenario imaginable, even if Joel was good with feelings and communication, I can't imagine he would have taken that earnestly at all.
