Honestly museum archives tend to suck complete and total ass when it comes to search functionality. LOC, Met Museum, V&A, the fucking costume museum in Bath isn’t even searchable.
The New York Public Library is way better than it used to be, could still use work. I spend days teaching students to research every semester, and we barely scrape the surface.
at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

This is so charming and beautiful, but Kelsey is 5’10” and now I can’t stop wanting 6’5” Trudy to be canon
please, stay by my side

Okay I’m a Henry Oak fan, but just look how much unhinged joy he’s taking in being a magic boy here. The original season one art Henry is terrified! Gazing in horror at his magic hands.
Look how much he’s grown. What a legend.

that's the full image there for anyone who wants it
@keyfantasy18 here you go :D

I wanna hear these Opinions on steampunk color palettes, if you’re willing.
tbh “the Victorians did not go to the trouble of inventing aniline dyes so that we could wear neutrals” mostly covers it?
they went to a lot of effort to bring affordable screaming bright fuchsias and acid greens into the world, and we should honor their tacky, tacky choices.
#to be fair the guy who invented the first aniline dye was trying to synthesize quinine to treat malaria#he didn’t set out to make fuschia dresses#but once he saw what he had done#he pivoted hard into fabric manufacture

I love Doug Jones, and this post is perfect, but I have to add that at least one movie has done something similar. The Bad Seed was so disturbing to test audiences that they went back and filmed a curtain call, theater style, with the actors that played after the movie ended. As a reminder that “hey! It’s all make believe! That little girl didn’t murder a bunch of people it’s okay!” and wow what a rush that must have been for the entire creative team on that film, to have such a profound impact even over film.
went to an elementaryschool musical production and they started the show with the director saying: "Now there's some very small viewers here today, so just so you know. There will be a scary character later in the show. This is her," and a girl in a kinda scary ghost outfit did a creepy walk across the stage, the stood up straight and did a cheery wave, "but remember, it's just Nina. She's pretending to be scary."
Aaaand i would very much like for horror movies to have that as a little bonus feature you can chose. Let me start a movie with Guillermo del Toro showing me a scary ghost that might jump at me, but don't worry, thats just Doug!

There is a live show where Will’s Dad Fact is that Henry had white guy dreads until like two days before season one begins, and cut them off right before.
But I think Henry Oak has very fast growing hair, and by the time they’re done in the forgotten realms, he’s rocking a man bun again.

long hair henry is canon!!!! he has a manbun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So um… trust an asexual to craft the most sensual and sexual ttrpg character there ever has been, for an Apocalypse World campaign. I’ve roped the other two players into dancing with me so we can infiltrate an enemy area as a troupe of performers, I’m having such a good time.
Apocalypse World is a profoundly horny game, I’m having a blast this is like playing a magic user for me, so far from anything I’d do in real life but fun as hell in a game, you know?

She described her Miss Frizzle dresses in the very first episode, I think! And she’s referenced big chunky bead jewelry and cardigans and other sort of teacher cliches.
If the Dads ever do a live show I can reasonably get to (like… in my city or in a nearby city but not on a Tuesday) I’m going all out on a Kelsey cosplay. Excruciatingly historically correct dress construction with silly English or Math print.
(I’m a teacher myself, I’m 5’10” and fat, I wear bright colors and funky prints, I have never felt so seen by a character in media)
we got confirmation that kelsey wears ms frizzle ass outfits this episode too. she said so in the intro that she was wearing a purple dress w math equations oh i love her

Reblogging the seven year old post because how the fuck didn’t I realize I was asexual earlier in my life? The signs were there… still don’t really understand why most people want to bone each other.
Saw some brand new ballet tonight and two out of three pieces weren’t staggeringly heteronormative and traditional genders and their roles-y, and that just makes me smile.
Dance gets me down sometimes, it’s always powerful man/delicate woman and like fuck give me men couples doing traditional, lyrical lifts and women controlling men’s movements and just a bunch of people having a good ass time which isn’t grounded in their desire to bone each other.

Sometimes an NPC in your call of Cthulhu game calls you a filly and says he wants to ride you with his whole voice in the middle of lunch on a nice train, and then you and another PC both say “I dump a glass of water on him” in unison.
Well, I actually said “has that ever, ever worked for you?” first but he’s rich as fuck and a lord, and so yeah I guess it worked? Anyway have you ever needed to draw something to exorcise it from your brain?

Could be late fifties… the hair and makeup, and the painted nails with solid color (no half moon or any particular trend) suggest it. Suits are harder to date, especially in larger sizes! They all seem to be wearing the same one, which has a print of a wedding cake on it? I see a little plastic couple on top of all those flowers! So I guess this could be much later, but the makeup is retro.
What a fascinating image.

Three bathing beauties enjoying ice cream by the sea … I haven’t any details on this presumably vintage image but it’s a wonderful piece of photographic art and too joyous a work not to share

More Dungeons and Daddies tarot cards! David Boreanaz, and Hardball Coughdrop. (Shout out to my costume design prof in grad school who loved nothing more than drawing men in tights. I assisted her on a couple Shakespeare shows and damn the detail in the watercolor renderings of those hose were just… *chefs kiss* Vickie, this one is for you.)

Did I spend three hours on this illustration of a with. I’ll be playing in a Hyperborea game? Maaaybe… was I processing my feelings over losing the beefy barbarian character I’d been playing before? Also maybe.

The only bits of S3 fanart I’ve done so far, just for you! Drew Kelsey immediately first ep soon as she was introduced. Then Trudy being flown to the boxing match.
honestly sucks that so many of the prominent s2 dndads artists and analyzers kind of faded out with the release of s3. probably because all the loose ends were tied up and stuff and its been a good chunk of years but eh. makes the fandom feel smaller
i feel like im playing dolls with five other tpvh creators and we all have Extremely different ideas of what intrigues us in the podcast. i have never felt the pressure to post art because there was like. a NEED for there to be more of something in a specific category of the fandom. i am pumping out a lot of stuff because i NEED to feed the content beast. that poor bitch is STARVING

They’re both “home-osexuals” clearly, having “exciting” dreams about houses.
my friend has a board game from 1986 called Therapy

and it’s whole thing is it’s supposedly based on scientific studies/data and even has sources cited on cards. but you know. it’s a board game about psychology from the 80s. so you get shit like this:
