I went to a talk by a graphic designer called Eddie O鈥橮ara. He created a company called Pentagon that combines design and technology. He described many of the projects that he worked on. I also want to combine art and technology for career, so it was really inspiring to hear real experiences from someone already in the field.聽

Critique
Kelsy and I gave each other feedback for our first look presentations. It definitely felt a little safer to have a process for how we would present the feedback to each other. I think there are a lot of times when people tend to give each other either all positive feedback or all negative feedback. But this method of critiquing made sure we gave each other some of both. I think it was also good to have the audience ask questions so that I got a chance to elaborate on some parts of my project. This way, Kelsy didn鈥檛 have to make any assumptions, and I could explain myself whenever there was something she didn鈥檛 understand.聽

I went to JASA's Taste of Japan event this weekend. I was especially impressed by the dance performances, one was to j-pop, and the dancers were able to skillfully copy professional dancers. The other was a traditional Japanese fisherman dance. It was very interesting to hear the traditional music and see the dance moves that mimicked fishermen.

The first bit of base coloring (without shading) for the bed scene. I wanted to ask Michelle if the color palette was ok before moving on.聽

After talking to Michelle, I changed the outline of the desert a bit. I rounded out the bones, and added the lines of the desert.聽

I went to the CSA Lunar New Year Banquet. There were a lot of performances that followed Asian traditions and history. It was great to see so many people there to celebrate a fairly minority holiday in the US.聽

Last weekend I went to the Black Rock Center for the Arts and saw an exhibit by Rhonda J. Smith combined with other juried artists. She did mixed media paintings. I really loved her use of color and line work, they made the paintings very dynamic.聽

I went to a performance by the Alvin Ailey dance theater at the Kennedy Center. I've never been very interested in dance, so I didn't expect to enjoy the performance very much. But it was very powerful, and definitely gave me a lot of insight into modern dance.
