I love setting up language journals. I got one for Portuguese & downloaded Anki just in time for the new year. My goal is to learn at least 1,500 words in 2020 (30 words a week) and get my level up to conversational. I'm sharing this goal with all of you so I'm sure to meet it. I've already learned 30 words in the past three days, since I've had a lot of time on my hands. That'll slow down as my second semester of sophomore year in college starts.
Hopefully I won't be too busy tomorrow and I can post a last reflection for 2019 rolling into 2020. But if I don't, Happy New Year everyone!

Language learning listening&speaking tip!
I have only recently heard about this method to improve your listening comprehension alongside your speaking skills. It’s called shadowing.
The concept is that you listen to your target language recording whether it be radio, samples, a podcast… And you repeat immediately. Without stopping, simultaneously, as if you were an interpreter and had to belt out a translation right away.
This helps you to truly sharpen your hearing skills since you have to say everything immediately afterwards. If you find it too had at first, try listening with a transcript.

Some of you may have seen the video I did on my study planner but I thought I would do a post on it too ^^ I’ve been working on a downloadable/printable study planner designed specifically with language learners in mind! It includes over 30 different pages that you can print as many times as you need. It’s meant to be flexible to each learner so you can pick and choose the pages you need and the order in which you need them.
Pages include:
100 days of productivity Books to read/films to watch in your target language Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly planner pages Goals and grade trackers Key phrases, grammar, vocabulary and verbs pages Language study tracker Lesson summary and reflective learning journal Reading, writing, speaking and listening focus pages Resources and wishlist
You can download it here!

Many of you may know that I keep youtube playlists of language samples, and I thought it was about time to compile them all into one post. They contain pretty much anything where you can hear the language clearly – music, dialogues, tutorials, movie trailers, readings, etc. I’ll probably add more in the future. Hope someone finds them useful!

Hebrew in the demon world
I’m pretty sure you all already know that the rank system in Mairimashita! Iruma-kun manga (and anime) is based on the Hebrew alphabet buuut…
Why is no one talking about their writing system?
Now, this is entirely anime thing (it’s not in the manga, I’ve checked) but they have their own writing system that is loosely based on the Hebrew alphabet. First - there are letters that look really similar and  Second - the rules are also similar -  they skip vowels sometimes I was supposed to study really bored so I took a closer look and deciphered some texts Basically, it’s Japanese written with pseudo-hebrew letters. And you can read it! Let’s see some exhibits, shall we?”
Exhibit A: Rank announcement board
Tumblr media
this shit literally spells: S(h) I N N Y U U S E I  R A N K  H A P P Y O U which translates as New Students Rank Announcement.
Exhibit B: Signs
Tumblr media
K I K E N - danger
Tumblr media
K(u)R(u)N(a) - Stay away - here they skipped vowels
 Exhibit C: Clara’s book
Tumblr media
H A J I M E T E  N O  Y U U W A K U - first seduction As you can see - you can read every text written this way like text messages Azz and Clara are sending to Iruma, that one Prophecy Scroll, etc. I don’t know why did they put so much effort into this since it wasn’t in the source material but it’s pretty neat, don’t you think? (or racist, depends on how you look at it because I’ve seen some people who didn’t like the Hebrew - demonology connotations but we’ll have to ask Hebrew speakers how they feel about it) Bonus: Iruma’s name
